Move on

The one good thing is everyone can move along now. I did a few weeks ago. To me, the iPhone 4 didn't work, it dropped calls continually. That said, I took it back, got a refund, and reactivated my 3GS. I know (regardless of what Jobs or any other person on this planet says) the iPhone 4 has serious problems that others don't. Why, I've been using the 3GS for over a year with zero problems (and a 3G, a 2G, and a BB before that) and once again have zero problems now that I'm using the 3GS again.

Case closed. I'm still happy with the 3GS and will simply buy the iPhone 5 when it comes out next year. If it has the same issue, I'll return it and get something else......

I take a lot of flack on this board for not defending Apple at any cost but I won't accept owning a defective product just to have the latest and greatest. The 3GS works fine..

I still don't understand how a software update can fix a hardware/engineering problem...

You can only fix hardware with new hardware... Apple's two options are A) re-engineer the thing or B) remove the signal dampener (i.e. hand) by use of a case. I would prefer option A... maybe that's the significance of Sept 30...?

Not on my phone

I'd never noticed this before but on my nokia if i hold the bottom of the phone i can get the signal to drop from five bars to just one as well just like others are experiencing with their iphones. i guess there is something in what jobs was saying about other phones.

On my Sony Ericsson phone I will have a drop in bars when...I actually can not get it to drop bars just by gripping it. So no, not all designs have this issue.

Anyway. This is not a big issue really. Every cell phone manufacturer have had bad designs and phones that will not work as intended. Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Nokia and now Apple. Why should Apple be any different.

So what iphone 4 had a design flaw. Just skip it and get the next release that will have a better design when it comes to reception.

[ironic post]They just forgot to think about the reception in all the jazz from the retina display and every thing else. So what if it's the phone basic function. [/ironic post]

Look how frak'n hard this guy is squeezing the phone.

Btw, why didn't the competitors phones get the 'blue room' test that the iPhone got. Doesn't seem consistent... plus this hand model is trying to break that phone... look at the red areas

I watched the video on cnn and he isn't holding that phone that hard. And it wasn't that color.

I'm very happy with my iPhone 4. No problems whatsoever. I've even done the test to see if I lose bars, nope.

If you're not happy just return it, simple as that.

Apple just changed their website regarding bumpers.

30 minutes ago I ordered a white bumper (scheduled to ship first week of August) and got a confirmation email (as well as a pending charge on my card).

Now it says bumper are unavailable and only shows the black one now.

All seems pretty fair to me, they presented the facts, made an offer and tried to set the record straight against some of the rumour and hysteria that has spread.

+1 although the numbers he presented were massively spun (in Apple's favor). Still I would guess most MR posters won't think this is enough of a fix.

What a LOAD OF CRAP

Some people do NOT want a case on their phone it hides the look and kills the feel they like.

I'm getting a DROID instead

Good riddance! Enjoy the screwed up API implementation of the telephony API when some of the Android hardware manufacturers cheapened up their bill of materials to save a few cents per phone.

Your right, nothing "feels" as natural as going without a case. But shouldn't you be concerned about protection? There are cases out there that are thinner, that can give you that natural feel. You just have to find them.

3M Kapton Tape, 3/8". I had some laying around the house, I'm an electrical engineer, and a lightbulb appeared overmy head. Looks fantastic, like the edge of the phone is gold anodized, and it completely alleviates the problem. Just need a foot of the stuff and an exacto knife.

Free bluetooth headset? That would have been a better sale argument. Also when it comes to safety, radiation and environment and using it legally to place calls in the car plus it's cool.

I think it is ******** that Apple didn't know about the issue. Steve said the bloomburg report was a "crock" or "********". I call ******** on Steve, Apple never made a case for any other iPhone. Not the 2G, 3G, 3GS. But they had one for the iPhone 4 at LAUNCH! And it only magically covers the Antenna!

Steve forgot to add, "or you could exchange it for a 3Gs, but why would you?"

or you can do like what Whoopie Goldberg does. She smash it to the ground for dying on her during an interview.

Today's morning I ordered iPhone 4 + white bumper in Apple Online Store, so what now? They will charge my card for £500 (excl. bump) or £524 (incl. bump)? If they will charge me for £524 it is most likely they will refund me those money which I paid for bumper, right?

Should I try to exchange my phone?

Bought my phone day 1. Have had the reception issue since day 1. I only have to touch the spot lightly with my palm or my fingers to cause reception problems. This is way worse than the 3GS, since I think the 3GS spot was on the top of the phone on the backside, a spot one usually never touches. I constantly found myself having problems with texts not going thru, websites not loading or calls getting dropped cause how I naturally hold the phone makes contact with the trouble spot. So I bought a bumper tho I didn't want one on my phone. And the bumper has helped (tho I think it has flaws). So I'm glad that I can now get a refund for the bumper I didn't really want to buy.

But I have not contacted Apple to complain about this. So I don't feel like I have been counted in their stats. While Steve admitted there is a problem spot (a "bulls eye") on the phone and they made a mistake (and are therefore offering free cases), he also admitted that he himself has not experienced this problem, even if he applies a death grip to his phone. And my friend who got his phone in the very same transaction at the same store, hasn't had a problem with his phone either. So this makes me feel like maybe I got a bad phone and I should try getting a new one. Should I try? I would really prefer to use my phone without a case.

I should also say I've felt like this from day 1, but I of course haven't bothered to try since the stores were so busy and the phones were usually out of stock. And I of course don't want to return my phone. My iPhone 4 is much more than just a cell phone to me. I just want the cell phone part to work better.

I couldn't help but laugh when he said "Only 0.55% of iPhone 4 customers have called AppleCare about the antenna issue."

WTF am I going to call AppleCare about a problem everyone knows about?

Those numbers a dead wrong. I guess for future issues, no matter how common, I am going to call and complain to AppleCare, so they put me in their statistics.

Overall, complete BS.

+1 here.

We all get have heard this before...and today with Jobs. However:

1)What about that lovely 2-year contract you may have signed with ATT?

2)What about if you RENEWED your ATT contract?

Jobs didn't address those 2 questions.

He said something during the Q and A about this. I believe you will be ok dude.

30 days from purchase, so june 15th preorders are excluded.

30 days from date you purchased/received it. Ship date is not the date they go by. If you got it on the 23rd via FedEx, that's the date you have until.

If you don't like Apple fanboys, then why visit a site called MACrumors????

I was hoping for "one more thing" new Mac Pros!, haha. A fella can dream. :apple:

A big thank you to all the babies.

I guess I'm getting a refund for that bumper that I don't need.
