I'm a little skeptical about the in-store pickup option. It is not listed on the regular Apple website, only on their retail site. I can remember when the 5 was released, people had a lot of trouble arranging in-store pickup, probably because of all the simultaneous orders and verifying in-store stock.

They need to allow apple store gift cards to be used during checkout online. Last time I bought something online I didn't see a option to add a gift card during checkout.

Can anyone confirm / disapprove this?

I just purchased an £800 Apple Store giftcard to order my new phone on and the people in the store said it should work

That's great, I work all day. Most likely gonna miss that...

If it's coming Fedex, you may be able to re-route your delivery to be held at a Fedex location. After you get your tracking number, go on Fedex.com and request to have it held at a location. I had that done with a signature-required delivery recently. It was very convenient, just went there after work and picked it up. If the Fedex location is in a Kinko's, it's usually open 24 hours.

You might be able to load the gift card onto your Apple Store account.

I hope I'm wrong, but try it. Go to the apple store app or online..... Add a iPad or whatever to your cart..... And when it comes to payment options you won't see a gift card option.

The iPhone 4 reservation system was totally different. You could reserve the phone but it was still a first come first served system since you did not have to pay for it online in advance. I'm fairly sure this reservation system is the personal pickup option where you are guaranteed a phone since you paid for it, which means you can go into the store any time of the day.

I just tried it and it worked, I was just wondering if it will still work for preordering the new iPhone :)

Awesome! Thanks for the info!

So...

I'll be on vacation all next week, and won't return home until 4 days after launch. How many days would I have to pick up the phone, if I were able to preorder it?

isn't there an apple store close by to where you will be? I'll be on vacation in Florida and I'm gonna do in-store pick up and just go to a store close to where I will be staying

Yes you can. Instore purchases can be done either contract or installment plans. Online can do AT&T next, but has to ship to home, no personal pickup.

So this is new for the iPhone 6? As of last week, there was no option for Next or Edge in Store.

online pre-order starts in 16 minutes here :)

Does it really? or does it start at 12:01AM Pacific - worldwide? I'm from the UK and checked Australian and Japanese apple store which should be allowing pre-orders (just for curiosity) but they are still disabled there...
