Nobody has any real idea of what the next iPhone will be until Apple announces it.

I'm assuming you're new to this. We have known months in advance what each new iPhone was going to look like thanks to supply chain leaks.

All those 2017 rumors make me less excited about the 2016 iPhone

We know nothing about either, with the pertinent part being "rumours", so neither can be exciting until you see it. I prefer not to get on board the hearsay train and go for a ride, as it may end up crashing into the buffers.

um....and a 30% production cut last Q and next Q. Please look up your facts. ;)

Um so multi-years of record breaking quarters and the financials still haven't been announced for 2Q/2016:)....who needs to look up what facts?

Well probably less new than you. ;) So today, you know exactly what the iphone 7 is going to be in Sept. 2016? Please enlighten the board as to the exact specifications and features of IOS 10.

2017 is the 10 Year Anniversary of the iPhone. I mentioned this earlier but who reads every post in a 6 page thread?

Apple will want to come out swinging next year. Also, nothing is for certain in life. Apple made no promises that there will be a tick and tock cycle forever.

Every year there are rumors. Every year they turn out to be right as we watch the product launches without surprise.

1. Except for the 20th anniversary Mac I can't recall Apple ever paying more than lip service to anniversaries.

2. Apple will want to come out swinging next year? I think they want that every year?

3. Apple does the tick/tock because it's lowers the cost of production by limiting retooling of the factory. No they never made a guarantee they would do this forever, but if they want to maintain 30-40% margins then coming out w/ a new model every year or skipping an S year isn't feasible. The stock market isn't looking a year ahead, it wants big profit this and next quarter.

4. Rumors are not always right -- remember, I think it was the 4 rumors where the major case maker went ahead and made cases and oops it turned out the iPhone 4 looked nothing like the rumors. Also the distant rumors don't have near the % of accuracy as the ones closer to launch when case shells and other parts leak out. We are talking 18 months from now, and after the 7.

5. As I mentioned, and as noted in the article, a glass 5" or 6" iPhone would be heavy. Aluminum cases are great b/c strength + low weight. No one wants to carry around a brick, that era has passed. Apple can't make an iPhone heavier than the current 6s and 6s+ or they will alienate more customers than they attract.

Looking more and more like the iPhone 7 is shaping up to be the most underwhelming iPhone release ever.Anyone would be a fool to buy it considering the dramatic change in 2017
Some update yearly.... how does that make us fools?

Who gives a flying "S" about a anniversary model? Does this increase the resale value somehow?

Notice how Apple does not pimp the Gold Apple Watch anymore? Exactly!
Because you can get the aluminum gold/rose gold.... no need to push a watch not many people were interested in buying.

If this is true, I'll be holding off on upgrading my 6 to the 7 to get the OLED phone next year.

Hopefully it will launch earlier than usual in June for the 10th anniversary.

Flush dual cameras, no antenna lines, jet black on the front and back, no home button (integrated into screen) to reduce bezel size, edge to edge screen would be on my early wish list. Also be available in 4.7" size, rather than just the 5.5-5.8"

I hope you enjoy burnin. Oled has burn in issues like oldschool crts

Sounds interesting - lucky for me I'm not due for an upgrade till 2017 anyway. Wonder how those due for an upgrade this year will decide.

1. iPhones took Apple to the next level. I can see this being a special event for Apple.

2. They do except we know the S cycles won't be as huge as redesign years.

3. So they will get 3 years out of the 6 design. If the serious redesign occurs next year, then while it seems like they skipped an S cycle, they didn't because this year is shaping up to be an S revision. The 2017 model I imagine it will be called iPhone 8 and back to the tick tock cycle.

4. Yea, but tell me when was the last time you were surprised going into a product launch not knowing pretty much everything that would be presented except for the name and pricing?

The 6S was a bit of a surprise. That CPU/internal spec bump and water resistance were two surprises. Other than that standard stuff; home button-check, headphone jack-check, apple pay-check, camera-check, same screen-check. I may have been surprised by 3d touch also.

I'm due for an upgrade this year. I will most likely upgrade this year. I'm intrigued by the dual-lens camera, so if that is available this year, it will definitely weigh in favor of upgrading this year.

Next year's phone (or the rumors of it) looks interesting, too, but I'm not going to make a decision based on rumors this far in advance. What happens if I upgrade this year, and Apple introduces a fantastic, game-changing phone next year? I look at it this way: If next year's phone is fantastic, the one they introduce in 2018 will be fantastic-er. I'll spend a year experiencing mild envy, just as I have done every other year since the iPhone 3GS. I'll survive.

Glass both sides again? I liked that design but it was way too fragile. At least now when you drop your phone by accident only one side gets cracked.

Where would Apple be financially today if the iPhone never existed? I think there's something special coming next year. After all, Tim and company needs that BAM moment when they introduce a redesigned iPhone next year after spending a few minutes going down ten years of iPhone memory lane.

Guess I'm holding out until that phone is released...I really do enjoy my 6S Plus and if they make a marginal improvement on the 7, then Ill be holding out for this or just get an HTC 10...

So are we really going to get a iPhone 6SS? This should happen in 2016. 2 year cycle Apple; not 3.

Very silly of Apple, most people use their iphones for 2 years and like to upgrade after 2 years. That cycle will now be broken. My two years are almost up but I'm not going for a silly refresh this october. Like what Xiaomi is doing might try a cheaper china phone like the mi5.
