The only thing offensive about Playboy magazine is the tobacco advertising. I wish they would make their interviews and gadget reviews available separately from that garbage.

The women are generally not that pretty, there's far more beautiful women available for free on the internet.

I am a photographer and could not be happier. Playboy is one of the few adult magazines that actually have taste and substance to their mags. Their photogs are some of the best and the models are great posers. I think that this is a great victory for equal rights, even for pornographers. Adult content has been accessible on the iPad since day one. You can go to a number of porn youtubelike sites on the internet as well as free picture sites, at any time of day with no age restriction. The material is there.

It's all in how you raise your kids. If you raise them right and to respect women then you are doing your job. Simply writing off porn, and even porn that comes at you in good taste, is simply wrong. It's been around since year 1 on cave walls and it won't be going away any time soon. Being ultra conservative and hating on this in public shows yourself only as being close minded and your arguments are long winded. If you don't like it then don't look.

Aha! Not a fan of Playboy at all but an easing on restrictions in this case may be a very good thing, especially if it also applies to the iOS games market. It'd be nice to be able to have "mature" content in games without worrying if Apple will block it.

I think people here and in this generation in general, don't realize how much damage this stuff can have on kids and teens, especially later when they try to have a normal relationship.
It's been scientifically proven that folks who consumed stuff like this (actually the more harder stuff) fail to have a normal love life.

PS: I don't think violence and blood in TV shows and movies are much better...

Yes you can go on and flame me about my post.

Show us the science, Tom. It's called backing up your claims.

It's nasty because of the way it objectifies women. I'm not talking about the women who pose for the magazine - they have a choice - but women in general. It says that women are objects. In a world where many women struggle for equality with men, where access to a woman's body is something which is in the power of men rather than the woman herself and where a woman can be killed or beaten because of her desire for control of her own body the idea of spending money on a magazine which encourages the view that women exist only or mostly for men's pleasure is disgusting to me.

This is very bad news. Sometimes you need to take a stand against things in the world that are bad. Even if people were able to access porn on their browser, that doesn't mean Apple needs to be a willing participant.

I've admired their stand, until now. Very disheartening. I feel let down.

um. Playboy is porn? Some Americans. Gotta love 'em. Like slightly slow children. God and guns, that's the ticket, but t & a? That's the work of satan.

Well this is pretty interesting that they are going to allow full playboy access which really isn't hardcore Porn. I wonder if they will allow magazines now that focus towards gay men now. :p

Bad idea

Cant see this lasting long.... think of the complaints from parents!!

How this any different from the Magazine on the news stand??

This is great, not for the "Adult content" side, but foe the actual "freedom" of content on the Magazine side, we will see more interesting stuff coming up

and yet most women's suits and professional clothing is still designed to show off T&A

This is a pretty closed-minded view. There are a lot of married men who don't view pornography because even though they derive pleasure from it, they don't feel right about lusting after some other woman who is not their wife.

Some men are actually addicted to porn and it interferes with their ability to live a normal life. They have to write off porn, even that which "comes at them in good taste", just to function. Are they closed-minded as well?

This thread is magical.

Anyone who wants porn on the iPad will surf actual hardcore porn, in video, and for free. Not, buy playboy to look at a few nipples.

Who knew a culture of repression would lend itself to gorging in excess? Oh that's right, rational people. Drinking, sex, you name it. Abstain, abstain abstain, binge, purge, binge purge, binge purge... Real healthy. But go ahead, blame the nipple.

i don't see what the big deal is. it's going to be paid content, so kids will have to have a credit card or some way of paying for it that their parents can see, and honestly what you can get on safari for free is insanely more graphic than playboy.

i don't see why any of this is a big deal anyway. america needs to chill out. if parents don't want their kids looking at porn then monitor their internet access. i doubt a kid is going to pay for this when they can access this stuff anywhere with an internet connection. people need to relax, it's not like playboy is even that "offensive" compared to other content online

Oh My

This country is still really messed up about sexuality and given our puritanical roots, it is not hard to trace where this "oh Uhm!!!" mentality came from.

Sex and nudity are completely natural and healthy. What ISN'T healthy is when you try and hide it or make it "bad". That is when it becomes an obsession/perversion.

Your kids see nudity every day...in the mirror!!! Oh the horror!!!

Time to take down the mirrors!!!!???

Playboy is 1950's porn....outdated and irrelevant decades ago.

1. You need to buy the app. If your child has the password to the App store you're crazy!

2. There is a little bit more control than the sites that are free and don't check for age.

3. Is Playboy really porn? It's about = to Maxim.

Kids with iPads? Really?

Are there really that many kids with iPads?
If you are giving an $700 iPad to your children who are too young to see nudity, you are a terrible parents.

Spend time with your kids instead.

Internet and iPad didn't invent porn.
We can't remove sex from the planet.
It is pointless to try to block it.

Seriously, why would a kid own an iPad and have iTunes store account!

"Here's a $50 iTunes card little Patrick. Now leave me the F alone and go play with your iPad."

Exploding heads in comics, games and movies are ok. But a bunch of breasts are bad for your children. You have to love america, they are just so easy to make fun of.

I never done this before but....

+1

America: Violence OK, Sex AHHHH!!!!! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

Also I hate the roll-out the "I read it for the articles", but Playboy isn't just purchased for the naked pictures. Yes, it is a main attraction, but some people actually do like the written parts (Interviews and Fiction). I don't think 3 million people would get it just for the pics.

People complaining because of the kids,

I have two and at the end of the day it takes parenting to keep your kids safe. Sex is everywhere nowadays and it's important to be a ever present figure and protect your kids. It doesn't really matter if Playboy is on the iPad. At the end of the day Apple can be the parents.
