Seriously? You are going to re-report a report that states the Mac Pro WON'T be updated because it hasn't been updated!!!!!!!
Common sense for the win is somewhat lacking in this story... Let not all forget the FACT Intel have ALREADY launched the new Xeon processors.

I call BS to it anyway, Apple like to stagger their updates, what else are they going to show throughout the year otherwise?

Colbert did a funny bit about this logic last night in response to North Carolina changing current climate predictions to be based on past history. He said "by this logic, I've been alive all my life. Therefore, I will always be alive! Also, in the next 50 years I will grow to be 20 feet tall!"

I would love nothing more than the whole mac line to be announced. On the one hand I agree that it would seem to be a bit too much for one date. On the other hand, we are into the 6th month of the year. We have a major iphone refresh later this year (Steve's last major baby as far as the phone is concerned). If we do in fact have a TV this year (which I think is highly questionable based on some of Tim's recent comments) then these two major products along with some other minor news could certainly round out the rest of the year. I question the viability of a TV being ready in 2012, but if it is then I think they would reserve a huge amount of resources and time for that release as they need to make a real splash with it.

I could see them doing a whole mac refresh in a short amount of time during the keynote, focusing on the overarching direction of the updates but not going into the minute details of each model. If it went this way I would imagine that a few of the machines, perhaps the lower end laptops, could be getting unexciting spec bumps but remaining the 'affordable' options for those with basic needs. There is no question in my mind that not everybody will be happy with all of the updates, as is usually the case.

If the Mac Pro is not updated my personal clock starts it's 6 week countdown for building my workstation. I have my fingers crossed. I actually dreamed about WWDC last night and there were no major mac updates :p . I just want the torture to stop! Anyhow, this could be my last hurrah of hanging on waiting for this kind of news. I am actually rooting for Apple to keep me on board but the realist in me is still skeptical.

I don't agree that the Mac Mini is more likely to see an update over the Mac Pro. The Mac Mini is small revenue and the server version is something that IT departments don't want to update frequently. I think Apple was waiting for the Mac Pro community to unite to see how much demand there was for it -- waiting for it to happen, which is why they have been "sitting on it" for the past.

I would hope that this is the case. My 2009 Mac Mini is perfectly fine for your average user. Games suck on it, but people don't buy the MM for gaming. By scrapping the Mac Pro, Apple would be abandoning the high end market. That may be their intention. There's more money to be made in the consumer market.

Kiss the Mac Pro goodbye gentlemen.

I think they'll aim for only desktops with the iMacs. And possibly kill off the Mac Mini.

Really tired of waiting for a new Mac Pro. I have real doubts they will be updated at wwdc. Only one of these won't be updated and only one of these is rumoured to be cancelled. hmmm. this kinda sucks

If apple remains idling, in a month or two my moola is going elsewhere. The world is not going to wait and it has no time to play silly games. At this rate, the best they could do is at least inform specific segments not to expect much and to move on.

Your thinking of a normal year though, I was thinking in terms of business years from July to June. Would Apple not follow the same pattern? Which would mean a few updates at WWDC but then more spread out.

This week though I won't be concentrating half as much about Apple's new toys because it's E3!!! My other guilty pleasure haha.. but WWDC is next week so a good month for me haha.

Shiny new computers!

This is how it will go down hardware wise me thinks:

Updated 11 and 13 in ivy bridge mba with retina displays.
Updated 15 in ivy bridge mbp with retina display, thinner unibody enclosure.
13 in mbp is discontinued.
Updated ivy bridge imac with retina displays.
Updated ivy bridge mac mini.
No mac pro announcements.

With an avatar like yours who cares what you think?

4 out of 5 will be updated, the mac pro will go the way of the white macbook, and all of the actual pros will be buying pcs. sad day all around.

Given that the Mac Pro hasn't been updated for 2 years - this should be top of the list of models to be updated, especially as there is absolutely no excuse not to in terms of updated processors.

I will seriously lose faith in Apple if they don't either update the Mac Pro or announce an alternative.

All cliches aside, but if I knew today how long the Mac Pro wait was going to be, I would have bought replacements back in 2010.

I wouldn't write it off just yet - the Pro isn't a fashion accessory like the rest of the range - few people aren't going to buy a new model every year so its not a big deal that it gets less frequent updates...

Agreed, assuming that said updates are more than a shiny new sticker at the same price. For example, was there really any good excuse for the 2010 Mac Pro to have not gotten USB3? Afterall, its not even close to credible to claim that there wasn't any room anywhere for one more little chip inside the huge 'cheese grater' case...

Second, the higher end of the Pro market are going to be lured by big boxes full of GPUs that can do video encoding and rendering faster than any regular CPU.

Grand Central Dispatch ... at least that's been Apple's theory. We can look at the current Mac Pro (and software) to see how well GCD has been promoted and applied. Do make sure that you don't hurt your ears from the loud echo of an empty room...

I've decided that if the Mac Pro hasn't been refreshed, I'll buy mini's to use as OS X legacy support systems for the next ~3 years, to minimize any "crisis" elements when transitioning to a new IT supplier for my business.

In thinking about this rumor, it is IMO worthwhile to consider:

a) looking at Apple's business operations overall, we can recognize that all Macs combined are only roughly 1/4 of Apple's business, so a simultaneous refresh of all of them isn't really as huge of a deal as it would have been ~5 years ago.

b) when one "doubles down" on security, it is easier to lock everything down and then update everything (all at once) than to lock down just portions of stuff and have two events rather than one.

c) in terms of manipulating media and the fan base through selective leaks, to say "Nearly" instead of "All" results in a lot of free advertising through all of the speculation it prompts for what (if any) product may be on the chopping block.

So I suspect that the update is going to be "everything", but the very calculated and cynical manouver to be in effect jerking the customers' chain diminishes my opinion of Apple leadership.

Steve Jobs used a Mac Pro.

Maybe the rumor is true. It would be a good way for Tim Cook to take some of the attention off of himself, and he could make a big splash for his most major address so far as CEO.

If Apple no longer want to make the Mac Pro they MUST allow a niche official clone-maker to create something like them under licence.

They tried that in the 90's. I owned a Motorola Starmax clone. It nearly killed the company. They brought back SJ, and Bill Gates put in money to keep them afloat. SJ killed the clones immediately.

Another rumor, I heard Apple was impressed by Dr. Dre's surprise of 2pac at Coachella. Apple called Dr. Dre in and talked about doing the same surprise with this WWDC. But it won't be 2pac doing the keynote. Anyone guess who it will be?

Steve, obviously.

i know, i just registered. but i have ben a lurker on these forums for years.
today I received this image from a friend who knows someone that is associated with apple. yes this sounds fishy, but you never know...

greatest computer purchase i ever made is my 13 inch MBP

----------

lol at everyone wanting quad-core...lol 90% of folks will never tap even half the potential of a quad core typing emails and looking at porn..lol if you are not doing video editing music production or playing 60fps 3d games you dont need quad core.. but yes its nice to talk about it and say you have it..

If the porn is Flash based video they will...;)

I agree, but the MacBook is in more demand than the iMacs.

True, but irrelevant.

Minor mid-life kicker in the form of a modest clock bump Don't he product didn't seem stale -- hardly qualifies as a refresh.

While I agree that as far as users are concerned, it's nothing to get serious about, Apple deemed it enough of a refresh to call it the MacBook Pro (Late 2011), distinctly different in all support and reference documents than the MacBook Pro (Early 2011); as far as Apple is concerned, it's a distinct refresh.

we'll see...

While I don't use a Mac Pro, I want this tower to continue. I think video editors, photographers, designers should have a choice between platforms when it comes to workstations.

I am not in the market for updates. All the running around like a chicken with its head cutoff in the last two years has made me grateful I have a machine that runs just fine. I might be sick of my iMac, but she's working like a charm.

When I do have to update, I hope to continue to have a choice of Apple desktops beyond the iMac, since iPad suits my portable needs.

My prediction of upcoming events:

WWDC: New Mac Pro, new MacBook Pro line. Both with new forms, Pro with major new hardware. Why? Because the Pro is in most need of an update, has been waiting for a new processor from Intel. Good time to do it. MacBook Pro, because they are the best selling line of Macs.

Later on this summer: MBA, iMac and Mini, all of which will receive performance tweeks, but nothing major as far as redesign; same case, same look, moderately better performance.

This fall: iPhone
