I ordered the 64GB model within an hour of it's availability, chose overnight delivery, it's out on a FedEx truck now, should have it by 10:30AM.

Wonder if I can buy in store and then return the shipped device to the store for a refund? I'm assuming since the serial numbers won't match I'd be out of luck right?

No because I didn't expect them to need over a week to ship me. And if it was gooing to be available in store why did they even offer a "preorder" that wouldn't arrive till next week.
But, the website clearly said it delivers Nov 2-4. Sounds like some folks are getting lucky with early deliveries though.

I have no problem with people getting them early. My problem is they didn't fulfill the orders in the order they were placed.
I ordered before 9am Monday, I didn't expect it to arrive today, but I expected it to shipped (which it has not).

The website clearly says you can return to the/a store. So we can purchase today in store and return our 'late' units when they show to the store. There's no need to try to make it look like it's the same unit(s) you got *at* the store.

And now we are getting the woohoo Apple TV is available PR email from Apple. LOL!

Just called Apple to request cancellation of my preorder for 3 64gb Apple 4 TVs. The representative said she couldn't guarantee they wouldn't ship but would request the warehouse cancel them. If I get them I'll use the prepaid return label to send them back. The representative said one of her coworkers was frustrated that her preorder hadn't shipped when you can now pick them up in stores! So even Apple employees realize those preorder was a bit of a cluster! Oh well, I'll get all three today at the mall

I called as well. And the rep told me that it can't be canceled and couldn't confirm that it would even be shipped out today, she just kept referring to checking the order site and that I'll get it sometime next week...
Guess I'll do an insider pick up and and refuse delivery on the one that was shipped

It's a long day. DHL's website is very confusing (yes sir we know, it's aimed at companies, not consumers, we're working on it). My ATV4 is currently on hold. Will be delivered tonight 6 PM - 9 PM.

Oh and yes it popped up on my support profile. First time I see this.

I'm still preparing for shipment maybe they will ship it out this morning since Harrisburg to Lehigh valley not that far
Maybe. The person on the phone this morning couldn't confirm it would be shipped today. She said today or tomorrow and couldn't cancel my order.
I just placed another order for in store pick up and will just return the one that arrives. Hopefully they won't screw this one up.

Did an online chat. Cancelled as well. If your order is still in preparing for shipment there's a high chance they'll stop it before it dispatches. I'll be picking one up at Best Buy with discounts.

i called and cancelled. Mine has been preparing for 3 days now to ship. got a full refund including my expedited shipping. very easy. I recommend everyone to call them that has the ability to pick one up in the store today. VERY EASY!

so the same power cord should be fine for the new one right? like others I'm sure, I don't want to go behind my entertainment center unless I gotta :)

tried to cancel via chat and this was their response: "Your order for the Apple TV is in a status where we can not cancel it"

The good news for me:

- I ordered online today and can pick up today at the Apple store 10 miles from me

The bad news for me :

- I ordered 9AM launch day, paid $17 next day shipping, and FEDEX will deliver Saturday

I wish Apple would have had store pickup available at launch. I will return the Saturday delivery.

Update

I called Apple and was calm and explained my situation. I asked for and was granted a $17 shipping refund to my credit card. Apple usually is very fair to their customers and this is another example.

I just called Apple to cancel my order since I have an Apple Store 15 minutes away from me that has it in stock today. They said the box might still ship to me and then I can return it in store. If they knew devices would be in store today why not give an option for store pickup when the ordering went live on Monday? I would have chosen that option.

I'm definitely frustrated and will never "pre-order" an Apple device that's not an iPhone or iPad again. With an iPhone, you know it's coming the day they release as long as you get your order in on time. With something like this or the Apple Watch that I ordered less than 10 minutes after orders went live, even if you're as early as humanly possible, you don't know if you'll get one on launch day.

I ordered my Apple TV the SECOND they were available. My order hasn't even shipped yet, and now I'm getting emails about how it's available in stores today. What's worse, there are people who ordered hours after me who got their shipped emails yesterday. I don't understand how this works at all--my order status hasn't budged for days, but my card has been charged and the gift cards I used to pay for part of it are now at zero balance.

Yes, this is a first world problem, and in the end it is not going to ruin my life or even my day. But it is always a frustration. It's a good problem to have I suppose.
