In store pickup is now an option. My preorder still says pfs so I placed an order for pickup at my local store. I'll return the first one as it likely won't be here until next week.

Happy for you! I wasn't as fortunate because my local Apple Store is the only one not having stock for today. LOL
Anyway, glad you are getting yours today :D

Fully expected to wake up this morning with a shipment notification. Nope! Still in PFS. And I paid with a gift card, so unless they cancel and reimburse the gift card, I'm out of luck. I don't want to buy it locally with a credit card and then have $150 in Apple gift credit sitting around.

here from the east coast, still on pfs and paid for the faster shipping, kinda bs to see free shipping users get theirs today, no offense :/

Yes this has been a crazy order situation. Some of it seems to stem as is consumers clearly see this as a pre order situation (not available in stores or any other way when we all ordered) but Apple did not. It then seems they handled fulfillment against order priority a lot differently than they would in a true pre-order (think iPhone etc) situation. All of that seems to have led to frustrating experiences and late shipments. A number of us now (after staying up on the 26th all night waiting to order at earliest opportunity) will be visiting a store to get a unit quicker than the ones shipping !

Certainly hope that communication around orders of new items (classed as pre order or not) is crisper in the future and that launch day deliveries on these items are more of a guarantee or at least a stated option as they are in the case of iPhones/iPad pre orders (before they run out etc).

For those that have gone to stores today, any idea on stock levels (lots, not that many etc) and if there were lines ?

Thanks

This is why I keep saying this was not a preorder, and people got all crazy about it in this thread. Apple never said it was a preorder, and never said that stores couldn't get it before we could...

I have free shipping so I can't say much, but I get the feeling jelly that others got theirs with free shipping today. I remind myself, its not their fault, its apples and we should be happy for them.

Nice job UPS!

We really opening this can of worms again? Just curious? If so, I wanna grab my helmet.

Let me put this slightly differently in terms of what probably actually happened. Say Apple has 500,000 Apple TVs sitting in a warehouse. They say, "We can only ship 250,000 of these and guarantee launch day delivery. Customers who buy overnight shipping get priority and then we fill the remaining spaces with standard delivery." They sell 100,000 Apple TVs with overnight delivery. Should they then just not fill the remaining 150,000 spaces because those people didn't pay for overnight shipping? No, they just fill every space and ship them. Some people get lucky and some people don't. There are still 250,000 people who get them four days later but still in the time frame they chose.

I think you nailed it.

I'm standing outside the Markville (Toronto) store right now. We'll know in a few minutes if I get to play with a new Apple TV this weekend or I have to wait until UPS arrives on Monday.

nice. please advise. I'm planning on heading to sherway gardens at lunch if there's stock

I just called into apple support. They apologized for the delay and said my device would ship within a few hours and arrive Monday. Not holding my breath on this one.

I'm going to call the Eaton Centre shortly as I'm not far away. Let us know if you find stock.

I've got a tracking number on my pre order, but it hasn't even been picked up by ups

This is the first time I pre-order from apple and did not receive the item on lunch day. Is been a rough week, I pre-order Halo 5, weeks ago with Amazon Prime and the game was 2 days late.
