I love that you can exit the podcast section of Apple Tv and still have the podcast play while doing other things within Apple Tv.

I knew that worked for the radio section. I've been waiting for this.

Does anyone have any idea what the magnifying glass in the corner of the photo stream is? I can't access it.

Figured it something to do with video sharing but I have no real clue.

This. I'm lost.

It looks like you do it from the Videos app in iOS 7, not the iTunes app. When I open Videos on my ipad running iOS 7, it lists the movies that are in icloud, even though they're not native on my ipad. I click 'Play' on one of them, and then the airplay icon and select the AppleTV on the network I'm connected to. Works great!

Thanks! Working for me too in the Videos app.

Hopefully they improved the caching performance... I hate renting a movie from iTunes and then being informed that it will be 3h:30m before I can start watching it... even with it set to 720p on a 25M connection. Fortunately I have no such issues with Netflix, Amazon, etc.

That's happened to me. It's not the device. It's only your ISP/internet connection. All you can do is reset network settings and restart the device, then switch it to SD quality playback. At the time it was in an area with an okay bandwidth connection through an ATT UVerse residential gateway combo modem/router box that stood vertically on end. The wifi worked well except for those iTunes in the cloud movie load times.

Later, at a different neighborhood with a different ISP and a much smaller bandwidth connection, I didn't have those problems, and could playback HD fine. It would still take a bit of time to load HD content, but just minutes, not several hours for a 30 minute sitcom.

I think ATT was artificially capping the bandwidth for specific types of connections/content.

As you said, I could playback Netflix just fine. I only had the problem with content from iCloud.
(Though, to be fair, those Netflix downloads were probably SD quality as well)

I don't know what your ISP connection is like, but this could be similar.

I really hate what Apple did to the subtitles. At first, the only option was to see the subtitles with the black 50% opacity background.

A couple of updates after, they removed the black background and it was perfect. They where shown in a perfect size, every time.

Now, they allow you to choose how you want the subtitles to appear. It is a nice option but there is a major flaw...

The size of the subtitles change depending on the size of the source... I mean, if I stream a 1280x720p movie that fills the entire screen of the TV they look good at the Medium size. But if the source is, let say, 1280x528p (with black bars up and down), they look tiny and must be changed manually to the Large size.

Also, it seems like the perfect size (something like it was before this update) might be a size between Medium and Large. Medium is not big enough and Large is to big.

I hope it is a bug and they fix it soon.

What about the Rip, Mix, Burn days? They had whole commercials built around using the content from your CD collection.
As long as the music and movies you have purchased, ripped, downloaded, or otherwise collected are inside an iTunes library, are in a format that iTunes can play, and you have home sharing turned on, generally speaking, you should be good to go as far as using an AppleTV to play it back.

Problem is that certain posters here don't want to do that. They want to have their own setup. Which is understandable. Unfortunately, the AppleTV isn't setup or designed to be used arbitrarily like that.

So that said, Apple isn't very likely to care about customers that don't want to play by those confines.

Still no Showtime app. Totally silly that it exists for ipad and iPhone but not Apple TV. Even more silly is the fact that the app has AirPlay and mirroring blocked on those devices.

That sounds like a restriction that Showtime put in place… OK for mobile devices… Not OK for watching on TV in any fashion.

Wish they'd just let us play any file on it...

It's slightly less annoying now I found a program that can "hack" files from mkv/avi to mp4... but come on, it's just a useless stumbling block
What program are you using for this?
I use HandBrake (and HandBrakeBatch), myself, but it's certainly not the only option out there.

Any one else do update on Apple TV & now telling me to connect to iTunes on a computer ffs went to apple store don't stock micro / USB cables

I notice that a number of Apps are not available on the "Canadian" version of Apple TV.

Hulu Plus
HBO Go
Disney Channel
Disney XD
Smithsonian Channel
ESPN
Skynews
NBA
Vevo

All those are not on the "Canadian" Apple TV. But I've also noticed over the years things on the USA iTunes Store are not on the Canadian iTunes Store. Or take forever getting here. There are a handful of cases of vice-vera but but not many. Instead of having an iTunes Store for each country I'd have one store with everything. Would make so much more sense and make things far easier. The sad and stupid thing is that each country has their own media laws but one store with everything would be so much better.

It's not so much a matter of laws as ownership of the material itself. An American network, let's use ESPN as an example, isn't going to want to operate in every single country in the world even if they could. And content they own could be quite valuable in one country, and almost worthless in another one. They sell the rights to their content to the highest bidder.

No Canadian law is preventing these apps from appearing on Apple TV. It's that the rights are not held by HBO, Sky, Disney, etc.

Epiphany...

I just realize why Apple's waiting on an update for this.
Rather than having a bunch of different icons pasted across the main screen, you'll be able to look at all of your media in one splash screen.
Maybe separated by movies, TV series, music.

Maybe.

had to get replaced

ATV2 non-jailbreaked worked fine. Ran current update and got notstop flashing. Wouldn't recognize the device via USB.

Called Apple Support. They told me there's nothing they can do, that the update bricked my ATV2 and that I'd have to go to the Apple Store. They said it would be replaced even though it's out of warranty.

Sat in 5PM traffic in the rain, then waited for to be squeezed in since it's iPhone launch day.

Finally got to me and tested, verified... only they couldn't find a micro-usb cable in the Apple Store, so they just swapped me out a new one. They told me it shouldn't have been covered even though the update bricked it, but they made an exception.

Glad I have a new one, but I don't get the logic of if Apple's update causes your hardware to fail... why that wouldn't be covered out of warranty?

Those of you out of warranty, be warned if you perform this recent update and it bricks your ATV, you might not get a replacement.

Kinda cool to have the podcasts section on apple tv sync with the ios podcast app, unexpected, but very nice!

Updating AppleTV, bu how long is this thing taking? I know I am not the most patient person on this planet, but my god, the iPad and iPhone really didn't take that long. Why, Apple, why? :D

The OTA update just borked my 3rd gen 1080p ATV. Got the connect to iTunes screen showing a micro usb cable I do not have. WTH

Can anyone tell me whether AppleTV can push AirPlay to another target (e.g. an Airport Express?) One of the reasons I'm keen on iTunes Radio is so I can broadcast to multiple rooms during parties from my laptop without using the airfoil workaround, but would be easier yet if I could push straight from an ATV (or, you know, my iPhone...).

Yes!
