I opened the app on my phone this morning and it told me I got a free year because of my "new Apple TV" device. I don't have any new device, but I'll take the free year!

Funny I try to get the free offer and I get "You are not qualified for the hardware offer". Really? I am doing this from the TV app on a iPhone 11 Pro Max. If that is not qualified I don't know what is!

If you get a subscription each for the same period of time, why should this extend the time of your subscription?
If you read my initial post, it’s because we have a family sharing account. Tv+ has this enabled also which means multiple people on the same family shouldn’t need to pay for subscriptions

Giving people who haven't purchased any new qualifying hardware a free 1 YR subscription must be Apple's way of ensuring the next quarterly report shows how successful ATV+ is!

So what are the more inexpensive (read: not buying Apple TV) options to watch this on a TV? I have a ChromeCast that I use for Netflix, Amazon Video, Disney+, YouTube and so forth and do not see a point in buying expensive hardware or a new TV for Apple TV+. :/
The least expensive way is probably a Roku Express ($25), or a Roku Premiere ($40) if you want 4K. But I'd also consider the Apple TV 4k deal from the front page. It's a great device.

A technical point for anyone that needs subtitles: they say it has closed caption CC in 8 languages, but CC doesn't work over HDMI so that won't be true on the Apple TV.
Of course the closed captions from iTunes/ATV+ content work on Apple TV.

IndieWire has a very good take on Apple TV+ that I'd like to share. Refreshing and open minded.

I'd also like to note that early user reviews are very positive for See and Morning Show (I haven't looked into the others). I'll post my own reviews when I get time to watch over the weekend.

Opening episode of For All Mankind was fabulous. Really very, very good indeed. I'm impressed. If that is any indication of the quality of the programming on Apple TV+ then I am all-in. I'll certainly be paying £4.99 per month so long as there's still something worth watching. I can always cancel at any time so it's no big deal either way.

Overall, my first impression is a huge thumbs-up 👍

I'll try this when I get my new iPhone next month, but I am not sold on it yet. I feel that this is the best set of streaming options:
1. Amazon Prime (especially if you are a Amazon junky like I am)
2. Disney+ (Disney, ESPN, Hulu no ads)
3. Netflix

That gives a well rounded catalog and original offerings.

But your question was, if you will get 2 years with two new iPhones. Read the terms and conditions here: https://www.apple.com/promo/ and you'll get your answer directly from Apple.

This is the first streaming service that I have literally no interest in. I'm sure I'll get it at some point, when I buy some new product and it becomes 'free', but even then, I don't think i'd waste my time on any of these shows. There's nothing interesting here, and it amazes me that they put this together.

Yes. If things go according to plan they will have an impressive installed user base. The LULZ will happen when the free subscriptions run out and the series people are watching aren't finished. I can already hear the crying about how people are going to have to renew and shell out an entire $4.95 to see the finales.

I have my little shareholder sized box of tissues ready.

Cool, got the year for free, but all I see are Apple's titles in the iPhone App, I was under the impression that there would be other titles as well. Still, I've got some more shows to watch on top of the mountain of TV I already consume, cool.

Actually AppleTV+ appears as a channel. I had to restart the TV app to properly set it up, but not it works. I have to say though that the content is really small. It would be nice to know when we should expect new episodes of the TV shows. Apple has still a lot to learn. The picture quality though is amazing..

Thanks for that. I should restart my app too. Yeah I’m hoping as time goes along they learn more and more and let us know when new episodes are coming.

The price is right for what you are getting. They will sprinkle in more content as time goes by. If they had outside titles you would be paying.

From what I've read it sounds like some corporate paint by numbers SJW twinged ****.

My daughter bought a new Pro Max and we are all on a Family Plan. I saw the free one year trial I am assuming because of her new phone purchase, so on my phone I agreed to the FREE TRIAL and it charged my Apple Card $19.99!!! WTH!
