Other than electricity costs and, assuming you acquire what's on it legally, the cost of buying and ripping those movies and shows.
Don't forget the cost of the hardware (PC) to use as the server. And the ripping part -- I tried that years ago with a program called MakeMKV that gets around the DRM and it was just a frustrating experience because every disc is different and having to mess with finding the correct tracks to rip, etc...I just quit doing it. Maybe there is something easier and more accurate now. Regardless, most series are not on disc and most people don't care to watch something more than once, so having to buy it (which for 4K UHD discs isn't cheap), it just makes streaming more efficient and cost-effective. Even $15 for every other month a year is $90. Like you said, your electric bill for your own server will be that much if not more.

Do you wait for a few full seasons and then watch it or just pay whole year? I normally wait till whole season is out.
I think we pay the yearly price.

While it just super annoying and in facts angers me to a certain extent, these minor increases in subscription prices in the end all of it starts to be a major buck.

This is the new world. In the old world, calling your provider to cancel often got you a much better deal as a means of retention (at least in the UK, for things like mobile phone network, broadband provider, broadcast TV subscriptions). No such thing in the world of streaming and it looks like everyone is going to increase their prices at least once a year.

If people start subscribing for only a few months to binge and then cancel en masse, I can see yearly plans becoming the standard with monthly plans either withdrawn or made ridiculously expensive i.e. From $19.99 per month* when you subscribe for 12 months

Apple TV is actually really worth it. It has the best shows on streaming TV. I downgraded my Netflix to ad-supported because they just produce junk shows lately. I barely use it. That money went then into my Apple One premium where the money is much better spent.

That just got a price increase this morning also actually. 😂

“Just like everything else, we’re raising the prices for our shareholders customers before the new ceo takes over. We think you’re going to pay more and justify it anyway love it!”

I wonder how long will it take them to figure out some kind of scheme for people who cancel and renew often 😀

One existing "scheme" is charging monthly "cancel and renew often" subscribers over 50% more per month than long-term subscribers on an annual plan (based on TV+ subscription options).
