Does this not support Apple intelligence?

Plenty powerful for a $350 base iPad. It's a lot of performance for the people using it for consumption. Yes, it won't do the AI stuff (but aren't there many commenters here complaining about AI?), but that's not what this is for. It's a basic device for people who just use it mostly for reading, consuming media, and things like that.

Also, the cost is inflation adjusted $240 (2010 dollars), to compare to the original $500 iPad. That's just to point out how much machine you get for the price.
Nice try Timmy boy

So a 3 year old chip in a "new" iPad?!
I used to buy new Apple products so I'd get the latest tech.
I have no interest in paying double the price for a "pro" version just to get a decent chip.
Sorry Apple I'm moving to buying your products used, a older pro or air is much more value than this.

FALSE : There is Bluetooth 5.3 against 5.2 hahahahaha

And Smart HDR 4 support too

Love the fact that despite the fact Air and Pro models have their front cameras like the budget iPad as well this one is still using the Apple Pencil 1😂😂

Still no GPS unless you have Cellular... which in the UK is £150 for something (cellular) I don't want.

Then don’t buy it. It’s embarrassing how few people here seem to not get that not every product is for them. This will likely sell well and for the target market the best thing is doubling the storage.
Most of the people complaining aren’t in the market for the base iPad regardless of specs. If Apple gave it more powerful specs and increased the price they would be still complaining. The average person who buys these base iPads don’t care about this stuff. Most of those customers probably buy them from 3rd party retailers during a sale

If you look at the Apple website, you'll see that they know the target market for the iPad. It's kids. Sure, adults can use it as a low-cost tablet, but adults typically buy iPads for their kids to use at school or to keep them occupied when they're doing errands. Kids don't need Apple Intelligence. Their teachers probably wouldn't let them use it to write school papers. If the kids can use the 12MP front camera for selfies and A16 Bionic to run Dress to Impress with less lag, they (and their parents) would be happy. Apple figures people who need a tablet for professional use would pay more for an iPad Pro or Air.

The apple pencils with usb-c works with these also and is the better option for a new consumer. However it makes sense to maintain compatibility with the older pencil since a lot of these are used in education and enterprise were those accessories are already in use.

Abysmal screen with no HDR support, non-laminated, no wide color gamut. That's a major downside. They could AT LEAST laminate the display, give it 90hz, and give it HDR 500 support, but they throw the same old (and I do mean old) screen at this thing. Frustrating!

Apple will NEVER laminate the display for this iPad, if they did the price of this will go up considerably so not for a long long time

Plus if the screen broke it is much cheaper to fix a non laminated display than a laminated display

Apple today announced the 11th-generation iPad, now featuring the A16 Bionic chip and more storage.

The announcement came alongside the debut of the new iPad Air, which now features the M3 chip. From Apple's press release:

The new iPad starts with 128GB of storage, and is also available in 256GB and a new 512GB configuration. The previous model was only available in 64GB and 256GB configurations.

It is available in blue, pink, yellow, and silver, and continues to start at $349. Customers can pre-order the new iPad starting today, with launch scheduled for March 12.

I like the base storage starts at 128GB and think this is enough iPad for over 50% of users... however it is really odd that they didn't increase it to a chip that supports Apple Intelligence. Since that's the latest and greatest thing they are trying to promote and get on everything (like getting the iPad mini to the cheapest chip that would support it), I'm shocked. My kid is currently on an old iPad Air 2 and its really showing its age. But I'm not going to upgrade him to something that lacks Apple Intelligence at this point because we keep our devices for a long time and I feel like that is a feature they are going to be leaning on heavily the next couple years and I want him to not be behind the curve learning about what these devices can do.

A16 has 5 CORES NOW😂😂😂😂
Yeah, but it still likely has a bit better multi-core speed compared to A14, and it has roughly 30% faster single-core speed, so a substantial speedup overall.

More important though is the fact that A16 usually comes with 6 GB. If that holds true with the iPad 11, that means a 50% increase in RAM, which is very nice. Even nicer is the doubling of storage to 128 GB.

In my opinion, that is a mistake. Samsung tablets that cost a lot less, though are decent, have laminated screens. Not to mention creating a device that is almost exclusively used for media consumption but lacks HDR support, WCG, and a higher refresh rate.

The demographics for ipad is not all age groups for just media consumption. It's a kids device focusing on schoolwork mostly. Lack of all these functions are not vital.

If you want a media consumption device a refurb iPad pro would be better.
