Apple Unveils Apple Watch Series 4 With 30 Percent Larger Display, Thinner Body, ECG Reader, Fall Detection, and More

Am I reading the Apple website right?

If you want the Stainless Steel version of the new Series 4 Apple Watch, you can only get it in the GPS+Cellular version?

It was the same way with the Series 3. Stainless Steel only came in the GPS+Cellular version.

Nice. the display on the new 40mm is actually more then the series 3 42mm
759sq. mm on the new 40 compared to 740 sq. mm on the s3 42mm
Might end up going with the 40mm with my skinny wrist.

also thinner
S4 10.7mm thin compared to S3 11.4mm thin

Good lord I have just noticed that ECG is not available on Series 4 in Europe!!

My guess is the hardware is there, but the ECG hasn’t been approved by EU regulators (not sure what EU’s FDA equivalent is). Hopefully they’ll get approval and can activate the feature.

Yeah, I'm in. Finally gonna update from my Series 0 model. I'm gonna go 44mmm Aluminum Space Grey Nike edition with "black" band with holes in it. Can't decide whether to get it with cellular though. Cant see ever really using it. I always have my phone with me.

Series 4 now online for comparisons. Thinner means 11.4 for old an 10.7mm for new. New area of the 40mm is 759 sq mm and 44 mm is 977 sq mm display. $50 more for 44 over 40 and GPS only in Aluminum

NO NEW MAC, NO MORE OF MY MONEY, APPLE!

iOS is a joke. The mac is where it's at.

Where you really expecting new Mac announcements at an iOS focused event? Rumor is another event in Oct that is Mac focused.

I’m more upset that there were no iPad announcements - perhaps that will also happen at the rumored Oct event.

Make it a fully stand-alone device without need for an iPhone tether and maybe I'd consider it.

Guess I'll wait for 3rd party to make their own Smart Watch Phone that's Smarter and more Independent than Apple's.

I guess so. If that's the case, it will be interesting to see if one can just change region in the settings to US or it requires an American Apple ID to work...

Something I do not think is being made clear enough.

ECG Is ONLY available in the US at launch. Go and look at your individual countries page on the series 4 and you will find no mention of the ECG. In the keynote it was brushed over very quickly.

Not sure if this will help. I have Apple 3 watch. 2 weeks ago I felt tired and a bit dizzy. I rested a couple of hours in bed when my watched sent me a message that read something like this “you have been resting for a long while yet your heart rate is 41. You may want to get in touch with your doctor”.
I called, the nurse sent an ambulance. The emergency room doctors could not believe that my watch warned me. I had an operation the next morning which included a pacer. The upper part of my heart had slowed the blood flow to the bottom part.

I sent an email to Tim Cook to thank him. He replied a couple of hours later (on a Sunday) wishing me well and letting me know that stories like mine inspire them to keep pushing for answers.

I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the fall detection feature. If I'm doing an active sport like snowboarding and I happen to fall, will I have to tap my watch every time? I don't want my watch calling my emergency contact for every fall if I happen to not get back up within the allotted minute.

It's not get back up, it's "senses immobility", which I interpret to mean no movement. If you don't move for a minute after a fall you probably are not in good shape unless you take voluntary naps or meditate after falling while snowboarding.

Hmm...that would be interesting. It’s possible that the hardware will be physically disabled when purchased on the EU store, and can only be re-enabled by a software update.

I’m sure some reporter will ask Apple about this and we’ll get a more concrete answer soon.

Any idea of whether there's 3D Touch in the Apple Watch Series 4? Like the iPhone XR, the Series 4 has a newly developed display. While 3D Touch was kept in the existing OLED display of the iPhone Xs, it was left out of the iPhone XR. If it's also missing from the Apple Watch, then RIP 3D Touch.

Is the stainless w/ sport band still $599.

No. The base 40 mm starts at $699 with the sport band for the stainless model. So it increased a $100.

It’s _not_ called 3D Touch on the Watch, its called ‘force touch’. And there has not been speculation that it’s been removed.
