No official apps from anyone. Its a joke.
Really?
- BMW Connected allows me to check on my EV, unlock doors, start the AC, etc.
- WorkOutdoors allows me to do 5 hour trail runs with a moving map display in realtime on my wrist
- Fronius SolarWeb allows me to check on how my solar panels & battery are doing
- Australia Post app allows me to unlock my parcel lockers with the Watch alone
- Several travel apps are very useful when overseas (Tripit, App in the Air, etc).
- and about half a dozen more regulars...
Okay, this is good.
The watch is really evolving into a useful medical device.
ECG lead 1 isn't going to replace a full 12-lead ECG, but by golly it's a damn fine start!
I won't be buying one, but I like the direction they're going in...
(I'm a doc)
Also an MD here.
I agree. A single lead ECG is better than nothing and it will be good for spotting obvious issues (many of which can be detected by the existing plethysmograph to be fair), but it won't detect anything too complex or subtle. They'll never be able to replicate a 12 lead ECG and they'll always need a second, distant electrode location (hence the other finger). They might be able to leverage external sensors to add additional (non-standard) leads (eg. using modified AirPods...) but I doubt it's worth the overhead.
I was actually expecting pulse oximetry like Garmin recently did (for altitude sports/aviation... and those with significant cardio-respiratory disease). It would have been very easy to add.
Fall detection is quite clever. This device will be great for the elderly actually and those at risk of falls, especially if they live alone. I can also see this detecting the G-forces from other trauma (motor vehicle accidents, etc).
