I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the fall detection feature. If I'm doing an active sport like snowboarding and I happen to fall, will I have to tap my watch every time? I don't want my watch calling my emergency contact for every fall if I happen to not get back up within the allotted minute.

No - only if you fall and do not move for 1 minute - it then guesses that you are unconscious...

If you fall and get up, it doesn't call Emergency stuff

I hope I can buy stainless without cellular but looking at the Series 3 that won't be the case. That's $100+ premium just for the finish if I don't need LTE.

Order 9/14 and get it 9/21.
The Apple Event is streaming right now and I already want the new Watch Series 4! Will I somehow get to trade in my Watch 3 LTE? It would be great to somehow get at least 1/2 of the $429 I paid for the Watch 3 LTE which will be only a year old in 2 weeks. It is in flawless condition.

I really like the new ECG feature and the louder volume!!

OK the Apple website just updated and you can value your Watch Series 3 for trade in. Mine gets me $229. I'll take it. The new Watch Series 4 I want is $529, minus the trade in, I will be paying $300 for new watch.

I have to admit that I’m tempted to sell my series 3 LTE, though I won’t for a while. The main reason are the health related features and the - of I read this right - longer battery like while tracking outdoor workouts. Sometimes I go on long mountain bike rides, and the battery life is often very low when I get back. That’s without LTE enabled.

Not terribly exciting frankly. The iPhones are still exceptionally overpriced... lets face it, the MacBook 12" is about the same price as the iPhone Xs Max... Bang for the buck boys and girls, not hard to see which one is better.

The watch is still is not a watch but more of an overpriced tech toy. Yea it has health data but lets get real, do you throw out your RADO or TAG Heuer after two years? Does your Movado battery last 18 hours? Even a wind up watch lasts a full day... 18 hours is a joke. An Apple WatchTheSuckersPay

No official apps from anyone. Its a joke.

Really?
- BMW Connected allows me to check on my EV, unlock doors, start the AC, etc.
- WorkOutdoors allows me to do 5 hour trail runs with a moving map display in realtime on my wrist
- Fronius SolarWeb allows me to check on how my solar panels & battery are doing
- Australia Post app allows me to unlock my parcel lockers with the Watch alone
- Several travel apps are very useful when overseas (Tripit, App in the Air, etc).
- and about half a dozen more regulars...

Okay, this is good.
The watch is really evolving into a useful medical device.

ECG lead 1 isn't going to replace a full 12-lead ECG, but by golly it's a damn fine start!

I won't be buying one, but I like the direction they're going in...

(I'm a doc)

Also an MD here.

I agree. A single lead ECG is better than nothing and it will be good for spotting obvious issues (many of which can be detected by the existing plethysmograph to be fair), but it won't detect anything too complex or subtle. They'll never be able to replicate a 12 lead ECG and they'll always need a second, distant electrode location (hence the other finger). They might be able to leverage external sensors to add additional (non-standard) leads (eg. using modified AirPods...) but I doubt it's worth the overhead.

I was actually expecting pulse oximetry like Garmin recently did (for altitude sports/aviation... and those with significant cardio-respiratory disease). It would have been very easy to add.

Fall detection is quite clever. This device will be great for the elderly actually and those at risk of falls, especially if they live alone. I can also see this detecting the G-forces from other trauma (motor vehicle accidents, etc).

Am I reading the Apple website right?

If you want the Stainless Steel version of the new Series 4 Apple Watch, you can only get it in the GPS+Cellular version?

If so, I'm on Three in the UK and they don't support the Apple Watch yet, so to get the *style* of watch I want I'll have to pay extra to get some functionality I cannot and will not actually use anyway?

Probably gonna have to stick with my Series 2 SS one then.

So what is the actual bezel on the series 4? Some of the Watch faces make it look as big as the current watch. Very confused.

How much for a device with a life span of what, two years? Yeah, let me know when I can get ten years worth of use and water proof to 300 meters. What a cost/benefit fail! To each their own.

Beautiful, but expensive! $400 for GPS only and $500 for GPS + Cellular, up $100 from last year. At least the Series 3 is still available for a bit less.

But, even at those prices, that is one really, really attractive watch.
