You forgot to mention it doesn't let you connect your 1-month old EarPods. Or any iPhone ever, including the latest and greatest.

MacRumors, if you're going to report on the new Macbook Pro, report on ALL the features, those added and those taken away, rather than just showing us the standard press release Apple probably gave out to all the technology websites that conveniently forgets to talk about anything the average user might be upset about.

I can state new Mac Pro's, iMac's, and display's have been waiting in the shadows. I posted this explanation yesterday but will trim it down as it's a read.

Intel's missed releases benched new Mac prototypes. Numerous delays prompted the decision to release new MacBook's before the holiday season. Updated desktop systems will be released next year as some models require Intel's improvements in integrated graphics while other models will offer professional level BTO options with dedicated GPU's and server class CPU's. Refreshed displays with possible dedicated GPU's have also been developed. Waiting for CPU and GPU advancements has been a hurdle for production cycles, most notably the "X" nomenclature replacing "E" and "K" CPU's.

Skylake-X and Kaby-X
In June, Intel announced ditching the E and K nomenclature in succeeding the Broadwell-E chips with the introduction of "X" for its Skylake and Kaby Lake processors. Unfortunately, constant delays meant benched Mac's. Primary interests were Thunderbolt 3, improved integrated graphics and 4K+ support, Xeon E3-1500 v5 server chips, etc. We held back as Kaby Lake was on track for a Q2 2016 launch with "X" variants in June promised no later than Q3.

In August, Intel announced Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X would be shelved until late 2017. Some close to the situation claimed Cook channeled Jobs' level of anger as Apple began seeing declines waiting for Intel to get it together. Rumor mills suggest a possible move towards in-house production for crucial components (CPU's) while introducing high-end dedicated GPU display components with new production lines.

Apple just priced themselves out of the stratosphere. I used to think sub $2K was a lot to pay for a laptop. Now if I were to spec a base 15in MBP with 512GB ssd, it costs $2800 before taxes. Holy Hell that is expensive!!! Not to mention you're making some compromises with the i/o ports!!

I'd be disappointed if I was in the market for a new laptop. But I'm not. I will buy a new iPad before I buy a new notebook. Perfectly happy with my 2014 Air.

The brighter screen will be nice.
I think the touch bar is pretty nice and I will be interested what developers end up doing with it.
Touch ID is good.
I'm liking the size and weight of the 15" model
I'll have to see how the keyboard feels. They mentioned more tactile feel than the 12" macbook; let's hope so.
Bigger track will be nice, but I was fine with it as it was in terms of size.
I personally don't mind the four usb-c ports as I don't use many peripherals, but I can definitely understand people not liking that feature.
I love that they finally upped the speed of the memory from 1600Mhz to 2133Mhz.
The price is a couple hundred dollars too high for what you're getting.

I'll probably wait 6-8 months to see if they do a silent update of the processors when intel releases the next gen.

Just order mine.

What are best solutions for a monitor. The 27" on Apple.com is $1,299. I guess my old Apple 27" with Display Port will work, but would like one that charges my laptop to not have to use the supplied charger.

You will still need some sort of dongle for that. I don't see a native display port port on those macs. By the way that dongle is $49.

This is the first time where I feel like Apple had made something the purely feels like a gimmick. 3D touch and touch ID I can get behind, but I am so used to keyboard shortcuts in my workflow. What can this touchbar possibly offer?

Also what the hell with the ports?

The touchbar is a solution in search of a problem. It failed that search so it created its own - inhibiting user's productivity by forcing them to keep shifting their eyes between the screen and the touchbar, while also forcing them to constantly move their hands between the keyboard, touchpad, and touchbar. It's like juggling but without the amusement.

This is absolute crap!!!!

Apple removes the 3.5mm jack from the iPhone 7 forcing the use of wireless or the Lightning port connected headphones (or the use of some stupid Lighting to 3.5mm converter).

So then consumers go out and purchase Lighting connected headphones and now the arrogant idiots release the new MacBook WITH a 3.5mm audio jack and NO Lighting connector.

Apple just finished telling everyone last month that the 3.5mm jack is a horrible outdated technology and we all should run out and purchase wireless or Lighting connected headphones.

Lightning connected headphones. No.

Bluetooth. Yes.

Just noticed that. Edited.

Still, far too compromised at the alter of "thinner!"™. Nobody was complaining about Pro machines being too thick. This is absolutely, astonishingly, gobsmackingly unfit for purpose.

Perhaps it wouldn't work for you (I have no idea of your needs) but I'm a professional film editor and I could use these all day long if I needed to cut on set, on a plane or just sitting on the couch.

Haha it was so obvious people would hate this machine for the unification of ports. (I love the idea!)

But what about that LG 5k display?? Does this mean Thunderbolt Display made by apple is officially dead?

He made a mistake, it is a 4k 21" display.
