Seriously. What a let down.

Slightly upgraded processor and graphics card (which was a given) and a funky but useless toolbar.
And lot less ports.

In my work place, most of the projectors and screens are either VGA, DVI or most commonly, HDMI.
So I need to carry adaptors. Ok, so that was a problem since forever but;
now I also need to carry a USB-C to USB adaptor as ALL of the hard drives and sticks are common USB.
And the charger.
And the processor is not even that great, its up to 2.9 while Intel is making i7s up to 4.0GHz.
And still (though that was a given) there is no 17" laptop.

And there are no new displays.
And there are no new desktops.

What is Apple doing ? Surely they can do both make computers and watches that no one buys and cars that will not happen ?

Cool technology, but I can't justify purchasing it, because of no SD card slot, and all USB-C. Someday the latter will likely not be an issue, but the former is probably always going to be troublesome for me.
For the times you use that SD card reader/writer, Amazon has several USB-C SD card Reader/Writers for $10-$20.

I happen to have a 2013 nrMBP with an SD slot, and I have only used it one time in 3 years (mostly to make sure it worked).

$2800 for a 15" notebook with a crappy GPU, no useful ports and a gimmicky touch bar. $2800. And that's without upgrading anything.

They are out of their minds.

My thoughts exactly. I'm at 6 years with my MBP and I thought this would be the time to upgrade. Not at these prices. At least in 2011, I could get a machine that I could upgrade the RAM and HD easily, so I didn't need to get the top of the line computer.

Now with everything sealed and not replacable, I can't get a bigger HD later, or upgrade the ram. To get a 15" with a 1TB HD and 4GB of VRAM, you're at $3,200.

I am so disappointed today.

Looks like I'm gonna buy the previous gen MBP that I skipped over and then most likely never get another apple laptop, sad times.
This is a Pro device that is a big FU to a large number of pro users :(

You sir are brilliant, save your money sweetheart :)

how much do the necessary dongles cost?

An arm and a leg if you need them all.

In my case :
- USB adapter
- HDMI adapter (tv/beamer)
- VGA adapter (old beamers)
- gigabit ethernet adapter (fast backup to NAS)
- lightning adapter (iphone/ipad)
- thunderbolt adapter (thunderbolt screen at home)

and, honestly, where is the DVI adapter ? I have a 30" dell display at work which I need to connect to, currently through the dual link mini display port adapter. Now what ? Can I daisy chain adapters and use the thunderbolt adapter to connect the display port adapter to connect the DVI-D from the Dell ???

This is getting crazy, I think I'll hurry to shops and buy yesterday's version...

Apple today announced the all-new MacBook Pro, confirming that the new computer will come in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes, in both Silver and Space Gray color options. The MacBooks are thinner and lighter than their previous generations, come with a Trackpad that's larger than the ones on the previous MacBooks, and have a redesigned keyboard for better typing.

Apple calls it "the most powerful MacBook Pro ever," and the 13-inch model features a 2.9 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.3 GHz, 8GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage. The 15-inch version has a 2.6 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.5 GHz, 16GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage. Both computers reach "up to 2.3 times the graphics performance" of the previous generation.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro features Radeon Pro discrete graphics, while the 13-inch model has Intel Iris Graphics. Each edition includes SSDs with sequential read speeds over 3GBps, and the ability to drive a 5K display through a single Thunderbolt 3 port thanks to the technology's consolidation of data transfer, video bandwidth, and charging abilities.

For the display, that means Apple has created "the brightest, most colorful notebook display" ever, with images that are more vivid and lifelike thanks to the screen's 500 nits of brightness. In total, that means the new screen is now 67 percent brighter than the previous generation MacBook Pro, has 67 percent more contrast, "and is the first Mac notebook display to support a wider color gamut." The company said that none of this negatively affects battery life, because with power saving technology in the MacBook -- including a larger pixel aperture, a variable refresh rate and more power-efficient LEDs -- the display now consumes 30 percent less energy.

Regarding ports, the MacBook Pro now has four Thunderbolt 3 ports, any of which can be used to charge the laptop, and Apple has officially done away with MagSafe charging on its MacBook Pro line. The enclosure of the MacBook features an entirely new design and all-metal unibody construction, and the 13-inch model is 14.9 mm thin while the 15-inch option is 15.5 mm thin.

In comparison to the last edition of the MacBook Pro, the 13-inch model is 17 percent thinner and has 23 percent less volume, while the 15-inch is 14 percent thinner and 20 percent less volume. In terms of weight, the 13-inch is 3 pounds and the 15-inch is 4 pounds, both devices coming in at nearly half a pound lighter than their previous iterations.

Of course, the biggest addition to the MacBook Pro is the new "Touch Bar," which sits atop the keyboard and officially replaces the function keys on the laptop. As was rumored, Touch Bar is application specific and adapts to what's on screen, be it scrolling through months in Calendar, choosing an album in Photos, selecting emoji in Messages, and many more, including third-party apps like Microsoft Office.

Another advantage is Touch ID, which comes integrated into the power button on the new MacBook Pro. Once a user enrolls their fingerprint into the Touch ID system on MacBook, they can unlock the computer with the simple press of a finger, switch user accounts, and even make purchases with Apple Pay's new integration on the web.

A second generation butterfly mechanism in the keyboard provides more responsive typing. Below the keyboard, Apple expanded the Trackpad to be 50 percent larger in the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and twice as large than previous models on the 15-inch MacBook Pro. The speakers got an overhaul, too, with louder, more true-to-life sound that have double the dynamic range and improved bass.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,799, while the 15-inch starts at $2,399, and both devices can be pre-ordered today with a shipping date of 1-2 weeks. Apple has also decided to not create a new "Air" model, instead introducing an entry-level MacBook Pro without a Touch Bar that begins at $1,499, and it's on sale now on Apple.com.

OVER PRICED! I am Apple centric everything I do is Macs. I support 10,000 iPads by myself at a school District, so trust me I'm all in when it comes to Apple. However, the pricing is as crazy as a $10,000 Apple Watch. I will NEVER buy a computer for 2k or more with onboard graphics only. That is crazy talk. Cook is killing Apple! His prices are ridiculous.

Every hardware piece Apple is using is out dated except the fancy touch bar.

I do love the tool bar but I already pair an iPad Pro as a huge "tool bar" with my Mac. We were sold a gimmick this day people.

The touch bar is cool and all, but I'd rather have a bump in storage. I'm happy I went with a used 2015 model than waited around for this. The new screen seems like the biggest improvement to me.
