why do we need proprietary chargers. I am not a fan of the new ports, especially since they removed one usb-c. But could live with those.

but getting back to the magsafe is stupid. Even now that EU pushes towards standards.

Can charge using the USB-C too.

Three Thunderbolt 4 (USB‑C) ports with support for:

Charging

DisplayPort

Thunderbolt 4 (up to 40Gb/s)

USB 4 (up to 40Gb/s)

When did Apple turn into Dell?
Holy crap, the options are endless!

Hmmm … does my Thunderbolt 90 Watts Dock have to less power now to charge the M1 Pro 16“? The new charger does have 240W (for fast charging maybe).

They retained (at least for now) the existing 13in. Pro?—Yeesh! And without any changes so there is still no real reason for most to get that over the M1 Air.

The new 14.2 Pro is a huge price jump from the 13—Ouch! Maybe when/if the 13 is discontinued the 14 will come down closer to Earth in price.

I really thought the 13in. would be replaced, but maybe there is an existing inventory out there that still needs to be sold off.

what’s the difference in body depth for the 14” compared to the 13” MBP?

Perhaps we can talk about the $700 price increase for all this legacy stuff
No. Only a $200 price increase from the 13” MBP to the 14” MBP.

You are confusing the prices with the low end 13” M1 MBP with 2 ports and that stays 13”. That one is $1299 and remains available. It was always cheaper and less capable. It was really a MacBook Air in a different case.

People bitching about the "thickness". From Apple's support pages:

2019 16" MBP thickness
Height: 0.64 inch (1.62 cm)

2021 16" MBP M1 thickness

Height 0.66 inch (1.68 cm)

Will stick with my 16-inch for a few more years. Not that big of a pro user and I actually like the Touch Bar.

Bought the 2500 buck 14 with the 16 core GPU. Alllmost did the max, but I just don’t need that kind of performance in a laptop.

Ordered! December 2 delivery. Wow. Also Apple is allowing extending Apple Care beyond the three years with a yearly subscription plan.

$4500. I ordered it on my 15" MBP from 2013. Hopefully I will get 8 years out of it as well.

To my own disbelief, I kinda like the notch. Weirdly, it makes these laptops look kinda futuristic to me.
Anyway, the rest the Pro laptops are putting on the table is simply too good to resist.
Honestly, I have no gripes with the notch but understand why some do. What would be funny is when (not if) Samsung follows up with a Chromebook or Windows laptop with a notch.

Remember Apple is very much a image fashion brand. Yes, those who just care about performance should be stoked. But lots of people just buy them based on how they look.
The design isn't the best tbh, but really all I have ever wanted in a MacBook Pro was the smaller chassis with same speed and they have delivered. This is a truly awesome computer let down by the friggin stupid notch - I will see how I go over my 14 day return window to see if I can handle it.

WHO needs MagSafe and hdmi? Can all be done with usb c and proper displays.
HDMI will be very useful to the video editors they're aiming at, and having it there won't take up a USB-C should you power a monitor with it. But you can connect a camera that does RAW over HDMI directly to the Mac and record ProRes raw, in real time.

Magsafe has been requested since it was removed. You can still power over USB-C they said, and the new charger gives you fast charging, as it's 100W and the new MagSafe is 140W

Such a throwback to my first Mac, the 15“ pre-unibody MBP! Looks fantastic, but I’m definitely not the target group anymore. My M1 MBA is all I need!
Same here, my last Apple laptop was the 2011 15 inch Macbook Pro. The round design is so sexy! But all I need at the moment is a powerful desktop PC and iPad Pro. Really the only moment I miss having OSX is when I want to share a link from PC Chrome to Safari on iPhone or iPad.

Ordered. Keep in mind trade in values went down pretty significantly. $950 for my 2018 15”. Just glad to be rid of it (in a month, but still…)
