A beast, really.

But... (yo can always have a "but").

- No Face ID (well, you can live with Touch ID and unlock from your Apple Watch)
- No USB-A port (but that's OK, yo can use a unique Dongle)

And the very bad ones (not future proof)
- No Wi-Fi 6E, that would be very future proof for a USD 2500 machine
- Only Bluetooth 5.0
- I could bet that the HDMI port isn't 2.1

I think I will pass for now and I will wait the next update, maybe next year?

I think these new designs look pretty sweet overall, but given the price I'm not convinced it's a worthwhile upgrade over the current M1 MBP unless you really care about having more performance (let's not forget M1 is still super fast for like 90% of tasks) or support for multiple external displays. One interesting thing I noticed is that the current 13" M1 Pro gets significantly better battery life for web browsing than either the new 14" or 16" models announced today.

SUCCESS Mwahahaha! And they gave me a thousand bucks for my 2020 13" MBP, I'm OK with that.

14" 10-core CPU 16-core GPU 16GB RAM 1TB SSD -- I can't wait for this! And it's coming in about a week?!

I had some serious issues with the trade-in page, but I just kept trying, and eventually it worked and gave me a trade-in value. WOOT! Keep at it if you're having issues, be patient. It seems like they have decent stock of these things (as in, the initial batch didn't get sold out in the first 20 minutes).

I haven't been this excited for a Mac laptop... ever?!

-----Impressive hardware, but the design leaves something to be desired. I'm OK with the black keyboard background, but blargh, le notch! (Raises fist and shakes it in half-mock outrage.) Eh, the HP ZBook 17 G6 I'm still trying to turn into a Hackintosh still has more ports, anyway, and a disc drive to boot — not that I was in the market for a new machine, anyway; this one's still relatively recent.

“It also looks good in dark mode, which our pros love” = yeah because it looks terrible not in dark mode.
“It looks best when the screen is fully turned off and black, so it matches the notch.”

Can charge using the USB-C too.

Three Thunderbolt 4 (USB‑C) ports with support for:

Charging

DisplayPort

Thunderbolt 4 (up to 40Gb/s)

USB 4 (up to 40Gb/s)
Since you’re obviously a fan of dongles. Use one and a hub to get your USB C port back. I, for one, am happy to be liberated from dongle hell.

Apple today announced its long-awaited major redesign for the MacBook Pro, featuring configurations with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chip, a mini-LED display with ProMotion, an HDMI port and SDXC card reader, charging with MagSafe 3, a notch housing a 1080p webcam, and more.

The MacBook Pro features a new design and is available with 14.2-inch and 16.2-inch display sizes. The 14.2-inch model is 15.5mm thick and weighs 3.5 pounds, while the 16.2-inch model is 16.8mm thick and weighs 4.7 pounds. The all-new aluminum enclosure also contains a completely new thermal design.

There are now more ports available, with the right side of the machine offering an HDMI port, a Thunderbolt 4 port, and an SDXC card reader. The left side of the machine features a MagSafe 3 port, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a headphone jack. The keyboard now has a full-height function key row in place of the Touch Bar and the entire keyboard area is black.

The MacBook Pro features significantly reduced display borders that are 3.5mm thick, with a notch out of the top of the display for the webcam. The webcam now offers a 1080p resolution with a wider aperture, a larger image sensor, and benefits from an improved image signal processor.

The display itself is a mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR display, which also features ProMotion for refresh rates up to 120Hz. The Liquid Retina XDR display offers 1,000 nits of sustained brightness, 1,600 nits of peak brightness, and a million to one contrast ratio.

The new MacBook Pro also features improved studio-quality mics and speakers that support Spatial Audio, with the 16-inch model containing a six-speaker system.

The MacBook Pro now features magnetic charging with MagSafe 3, which offers fast charging for up to 50 percent charge in 30 minutes. It remains possible to charge using the Thunderbolt ports. When playing back video, the 14.2-inch model offers up to 17 hours of battery life, while the 16.2-inch model can deliver up to 21 hours of video playback.

The redesigned MacBook Pro features configurations with two new Apple silicon chips. Apple's The M1 Pro chip is a scaled-up, more powerful variant of the M1 chip. The M1 Pro chip features an 8-core or 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, a more capable Media Engine, more Thunderbolt controllers, support for up to 32GB of RAM, and more. The M1 Max chip features the same 10-core CPU as the M1 Pro, but includes a 24-core or 32-core GPU with support for up to 64GB of RAM.

The new MacBook Pro is available to pre-order today, with the first orders arriving to customers next week.

The fact that people say that a notch on the MENUBAR ruins such an advanced system is just crazy.

Go for a windows laptop then! With two touchscreens, half the performance a third of the battery. At least it's pretty to show off.

lol. Those haters saying Apple wouldn’t bring back "legacy" ports
Except USB-A is still ubiquitous almost 6 years after the launch of the 2016 MacBook, and HDMI/SD aren’t “legacy” ports they are still current.

I’ll live with the compromise of getting almost nearly every other port back and getting rid of the Touch Bar. This model would be an absolute win if not for the notch.

Glad you're the person that needs an SD slot for your camera and an HDMI port because you can't airplay. Terrible to see these back. Sticking with my 2017 a lot longer now.

Seems like a no-compromise Pro Machine, actually deserving of the name Pro.

Of course consumers will have plenty to complain about, but it is not for them. (Many will buy it anyway)

Why complain? The M1 Pro and M1 Air are still fine machines. A newer, higher-performance laptop doesn’t take anything away from them.

I love the irrational hatred of the notch. Apple is giving you more screen in an area that would otherwise be black plastic.

Until someone comes up with a better way to display menubars, time, signal etc other than a line across the top of the display there is no reason the camera can't be tucked inline with that.

here is new redesigned MacBook Pro…astonishing flat surface shell design with monoblock keyboard…and DVD ROM is back!!

Don’t need the SD slot. Definitely use HDMI enough when making presentations on the road. Enjoy your dongles.
