So happy to see the touch bar is gone! With that being said, is it too much to ask for a silver/space gray/maybe even black with black key version of the magic keyboard to go along with these computers when doing a dual mobile/desktop dock workstation setup?

it starts from a horribly expensive price

I have to pass.

it is bad because they will keep increasing prices. At this rate, Macbooks will start from 5K in a few years time.
They only inceased the prices by a small amount.
  • The equivalent 13” MBP was $1799, now the 14” is $1999.
  • The 16” went up a little, but not as much as everyone was expecting.

That keyboard with the full sized function keys looks way worse than the notch. Just sayin.
Not digging the black keyboard depression, and wow these look chunky in profile. Still it's what's inside that counts I guess? Maybe they will look better in live photos than the renders...

$1849 with student discount for the base model 14"....not a bad price at all for what you get! Now, if only it didn't have a notch on the screen :(

It is very competitively priced in my opinion, having looked at a lot of PC workstations. What do people expect?

I think I just got a bargain at AU$6k !

I love the simplicity of the chip hierarchy. And that the base M1 gives you pretty much the same speed for day-to-day tasks as the other 2. Gone are the days of underclocked or binned i3s causing real bottlenecks for everyday users. My M1 Mac Mini is the best machine I have ever owned. Even though I cheaped out and only got 8Gb of RAM.

Looks worse or just different? I love that the function keys are full size, finally. I'd like full size cursor keys, too, but looks like we're not getting that any time soon.

Except USB-A is still ubiquitous almost 6 years after the launch of the 2016 MacBook, and HDMI/SD aren’t “legacy” ports they are still current.

I’ll live with the compromise of getting almost nearly every other port back and getting rid of the Touch Bar. This model would be an absolute win if not for the notch.
Yeah, that’s why I put legacy in quotes. There was someone saying that in here a few days ago. USB-A was definitely not coming back and I’m fine with that. Glad SD and MagSafe are back.

Same. I can’t see myself needing more than my m1 mba 8gb for a while.

Don’t need the SD slot. Definitely use HDMI enough when making presentations on the road. Enjoy your dongles.

So you'd have an HDMI cable with you right? - Zip all difference from carrying a USB-C to full size HDMI - they are about £$8. Never understood all this rubbish about dongles. You just use the right cable.... that you'd still need to carry.

Incredible cpu/gpu power and all I see is notch talk. Lol. You guys wouldn’t be buying it if it didn’t have a notch. People that need this power have it hooked up to multiple 4k monitors anyway.
Please don't speak as if you know us. I now need to wait for some reviews to come out because I have software that has A LOT of menu options at the top. How will that look when it WILL run into the notch?

Dear God I had no idea there were so many fashion experts interested in a pro-level Mac laptop: "The notch looks hideous!" "It's too fat!" Seriously, it's just a tool. I have questions about how the notch will work with extended menus, but Apple have made a good effort to address user criticisms; they deserve the benefit of the doubt. I will wait to see how it works in person before becoming hysterical. Overall a huge improvement.

Similar to a 2009 MBP, but damn $1999 for an entry level 14”? Inflation prices is a real thing then.

Here’s my thing they went back to the future in terms of redesign and ports(seems like no one is buying the dongles)
but they had a chance to legit bring something back that was 20 years in the making and nothing.. (R.I.P iPod) 😭

I like the old design better. This looks like a Dell Inspiron from the early 2010s, minus the thinness.
Na, it looks like a MacBook Pro still…
