While I got used to the notch on my 12 Mini - without any problems actually...
... this notch on the laptop is horrible. Ruins the display and the top Menu Bar.
On the other hand - the return of the MagSafe and SD slot is a brilliant move. Apple really seems to listen to people.
But - there is still no matte screen option and I wonder why. I've got 2015 MBP and although I've gotten used to the glossy thing it really pisses me off time to time and would be really happy for a matte screen. And the worst thing - I believe that only few people in world care about their laptops as I do. And yet the anti-glare coating is already wearing off and the screen looks quite ugly when viewed from a certain angle.

Well, maybe next time.

And one more thing - TouchBar is gone! Yeah! Hooray! God bless! 😜

I wish they maintained the design. Don't mind the notch but the bottom chassis looks like we've gone back in time tbh.
If thickness is your most important criteria then you have the choice of a M1 MacBook Air which is significantly more powerful than the old Intel version and capable of the sort of applications you'd previously have needed the higher-end 13" MBP for.

The extra thickness of the 14" and 16" MBP will translate into better thermals and probably better battery life. Half the problems of the 2016 MacBook Pros (which Apple have now almost completely backtracked on) were that they made it too thin.

As completely impressive the performance of these things are, and as much as I was planning on trading my M1 MBA in for one of these, I find myself just wanting a 15" macbook air with its current design! I'm sad to say I think I'll be keeping my air!

Do you think there is any chance they will make a 15" Macbook Air? I doubt it, for those that don't like any screen below 15, they only have one choice, spend $2500 or buy a Surface Laptop or some other $1500 Windows laptop.

Why is everyone whining about a tiny notch that you'll never even notice because it's in the menu bar and etc? Smh.

Apple today announced its long-awaited major redesign for the MacBook Pro, featuring configurations with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chip, a mini-LED display with ProMotion, an HDMI port and SDXC card reader, charging with MagSafe 3, a notch housing a 1080p webcam, and more.

The MacBook Pro features a new design and is available with 14.2-inch and 16.2-inch display sizes. The 14.2-inch model is 15.5mm thick and weighs 3.5 pounds, while the 16.2-inch model is 16.8mm thick and weighs 4.7 pounds. The all-new aluminum enclosure also contains a completely new thermal design. It continues to be available in Silver and Space Gray.

There are now more ports available, with the right side of the machine offering an HDMI port, a Thunderbolt 4 port, and an SDXC card reader. The MacBook Pro features significantly reduced display borders that are 3.5mm thick, with a notch out of the top of the display for the webcam. The webcam now offers a 1080p resolution with a wider aperture, a larger image sensor, and benefits from an improved image signal processor.

The display itself is a mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR display, which also features ProMotion for refresh rates up to 120Hz. The Liquid Retina XDR display offers 1,000 nits of sustained brightness, 1,600 nits of peak brightness, and a million to one contrast ratio.

The new MacBook Pro also features improved studio-quality mics and speakers that support Spatial Audio, with the 16-inch model containing a six-speaker system.

The MacBook Pro now features magnetic charging with MagSafe 3, which gives the device fast charging for up to 50 percent charge in 30 minutes. It remains possible to charge using the Thunderbolt ports. When playing back video, the 14.2-inch model offers up to 17 hours of battery life, while the 16.2-inch model can deliver up to 21 hours of video playback.

The redesigned MacBook Pro features configurations with two new Apple silicon chips. Apple's The M1 Pro chip is a scaled-up, more powerful variant of the M1 chip. The M1 Pro chip features an 8-core or 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, a more capable Media Engine, more Thunderbolt controllers, support for up to 32GB of unified memory, and more. The M1 Max chip features the same 10-core CPU as the M1 Pro, but includes a 24-core or 32-core GPU with support for up to 64GB of unified memory.

The new MacBook Pro is available to pre-order today, with the first orders arriving to customers next week.

Does the MacBook Pro even come with MagSafe in the box? Canadian Apple store just shows two usb-c charger options.

Perhaps we can talk about the $700 price increase for all this legacy stuff
That's a $200 price increase on the 13/14 (13-inch 4-TB-port started at $1799) and a $100 increase on the 16-inch. Try to compare apples to apples.

Anyone notice how in most of the presentation they showed it without the notch? They know it's ugly. Not happy.
Yes and on the website most applications are shown in full screen mode and doesn't show the notch either. At least it seems like the notch won't clip into the window itself, which I guess is is a good thing.

Well, Apple make some great improvements to a computer that was in need of it. MagSafe is back (yay!) and an SD card reader - what's not to love...

Then they had to @#$% all over it by including a notch, marring what could have been a great screen. Why.

Get rid of a useful touchbar for crap like an SD slot and HDMI? Wow...neat. Hard pass
So you're not going to buy one of the most powerful laptops on the planet only because it has "crap" like an SD slot and HDMI? Wow. Entitled much? Some pro users actually use these ports!

HDMI , SD Card, MagSafe ?

MR comment used to said they will never come back, because USB-C is the future?
Tim Cook had visited Dell factory and has drawn lots of influence. I d rather buy a Johnny Ive designed machine than a Dell …

Do they support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps) to reach 2,000 MB/s with external disks, like Kingston XS2000 Portable SSD?

Be honest with yourself…the notch had absolutely nothing to do with it. You weren’t buying anyway
As someone who will eventually sell his 16” MBP, I love that the Notch Derangement Syndrome will keep my resale price higher. I already know the headline of my Craigslist post…“Notch-less Design!”

(Then I’ll buy my replacement Notchbook, and love the extra screen real estate 😁)

You have to imagine that you are looking into Face ID … this design is the worst from Apple. They should have included 2 USB ports and called it Dell Book ..
