It’s a weird design choice to have rounded corners on the top of the screen but not on the bottom
Actually, it doesn't. It looks extremely Classic Mac OS-like, harkening back to a more than 20-year-long tradition. Early versions of System had four rounded corner masks (to match, I believe, the roundrect shape of the CRT bezel on the plastic front plate of compact Macs and Apple monitors), and later versions, IIRC, kept two of them on the top.

As a matter of fact, even Mac OS X kept those right until 10.4 “Tiger”, and then they finally got rid of them in 10.5 “Leopard”, in 2007.

And, of course, there's the whole, err, post-iPhone X Apple product lineup, where all but their lowest-end mobile offerings feature displays with round corners.

Unless they can make the display cover the display/backlight electronics at the hinge edge, by making them loop back à lá iPad or Apple Watch, they will likely never round the two lower corners. That would just be gratuitous and a waste of perfectly good pixels.

Wowww, the M1 Pro and M1 Max sure look amazing! Now to start waiting for Apple to come out with a higher-end Mac Mini using the M1 Pro chip, to become my main desktop computer in place of my 2012 quad-core i7 Mac Mini (those new MacBook Pros look really cool, but I am perfectly happy with my M1 MacBook Air.)

Yes indeed, I can't believe they really added a horrible notch also to a Mac. Terrible choice Apple. I was definitely interested in this machine, but with a notch, NO WAY. I work with images and I don't want the images displayed be ruined by a notch. A notch!?! You must be kidding. Un be lie va ble.
If you work with images in full screen, doesn't full screen actually occupy only the 16:10 area? In other words, the notch doesn't come into play in full screen mode. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I thought the video showed some apps in full screen where content was below the notch only.

I like the old design better. This looks like a Windows laptop from early 2010s, minus the thinness.
This machine will run circles around a Windows laptop from the early 2010. In fact, it will run circles around Windows laptops from early 2021 and later.

The design remained me of the Titanium PowerBook.

Right yes, because anybody who dares criticise Apple must be an Intel staffer 🙄
Intel does have a history of doing ******** marketing, read up in their paying benchmarks to look better or their recent weird ads

They seem to be using the notch as a signature design. No need for it, it's there as much for form as function.

I recall a time when Apple designs were iconic for their beauty. Wasn't so long ago...
Welcome to Tim Cook's Apple. Anyway I'll catch you on the flip side, I'm off to Samsung, whose innovation actually excites me and doesn't burn a hole in me wallet.

ouch that entry price point. will stick with my 2020 13" MacBook Pro M1 for a few more years. Even though the 14" looks good to me...

The M1 Pro chip features a 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, a more capable Media Engine, more Thunderbolt controllers, support for up to 32GB of RAM, and more. The M1 Max chip features the same 10-core CPU as the M1 Pro, but includes a 32-core GPU with support for up to 64GB of RAM.

There is a 24-core GPU custom configuration option that is not being mentioned in reports so far:

Apple M1 Pro with 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine
Apple M1 Max with 10-core CPU, 24-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine (+$200)
Apple M1 Max with 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine (+$400)
