Oh god I never thought this would happen. Looks like I’m holding onto my 2019 for the foreseeable future.
only because of the notch. It’s just ridiculous they even went there. When the lower bezel is still there they didn’t need to make a cutout in the screen. Last thing I wanted on my mac is Face ID.

Well, they do look like the MacBookPros back around 2007 with the curved lower body. And unless I am mistaken, they are thick, nay FAT.

We got notched good and on top, the beasts didn't get any slimmer. I really wonder how the energy efficiency of those M1 PRO MAX really is if they need humungous batteries.

Trading a USB 4 port for an HDMI port is a downgrade.
no not really - TB4/USB4 can (should be able to) be "hubbed" :) so you can expand ports downstream with less issues.

And current MBP is actually only 2 "ports" with 4 connectors. Each 2 connectors "share" a TB port/chip.

I don't know how many "real lanes" are in the new MBP. I hope 3 real full speed ports/chip equivalents but suspect same arrangement as current so "2" chips sharing 3 ports.

"She ain't fat bruh, she just a lil thick." ;)

Lol the screen is the least important thing and that’s what you’re focusing on?

$1999 starting price. 😞

More than I'd like to spend. I would have liked to see a replacement for the old 13" MBP with some of the new (old) features (MagSafe, no touch bar, HDMI) starting at around $1499 or so. I would have jumped at that.
$1499 was an entirely unrealistic expectation.

I had hoped they would have kept the $1799 price (which is what they used to charge for their upper tier MBP). $1999 is not bad considering what all it includes (also taking into consideration the state of the prices of chip supplies and the like).

It's not more screen real estate? It's less. It interferes with the (most foundational and important) objects that are constantly on my screen: View attachment 1869718
It's more only in the sense that outside of full screen, the main desktop occupies greater vertical resolution than 16:10. I agree with your statement though that the menu bar space is effectively less due to the notch invasion but the desktop space is larger as a result.

There is no Face ID on the new MacBook Pros. 🙄

These are some great laptops! My MacBook Pro 13-inch at work needs to get replaced as the battery is dead so I'll have to argue myself into one of these new 14-inch ones.

I do have a Mac mini with the Apple M1 and 16GB of RAM and it's actually doing the trick for me. The steller performance and efficiency of Apple Silicon has made it so that I don't really need to go for the Pro lineup anymore to get adequate performance. But I would sure love those ports, that mini-LED display, better webcam, better speakers and microphones etc so opting for the "regular" MacBook Pro 13-inch with the Apple M1 or the MacBook Air with Apple M1 won't be the same even though I'm more than happy with the Apple M1 with 16GB unified memory compared to getting the Apple M1 Pro or Apple M1 Max.

The lack of Touch Bar is lame pandering. It was great for me and a number of my team. F Keys are a throwback to ancient Mainframes. They could have at least merged them with a LED keyboard Strip up there that could change function. Hell the whole keyboard could be separate screens and change function - would be amazing for video editing etc. Hold the Alt and all the options / icons then appear.

To my own disbelief, I kinda like the notch. Weirdly, it makes these laptops look kinda futuristic to me.
Anyway, the rest the Pro laptops are putting on the table is simply too good to resist.

A 14.2 inch, M1 Pro with 1TB SSD and 32GB RAM it is.
The price is super, super steep, but man, ordering today.
