I’ve been unable to get my AirPods 2 to update. All suggestions mentioned from others have not worked for me. Just wondering, are you running the beta on multiple devices that you see switching working so well?

Yes, I’ve only tried the auto switching between my phone and iPad, both of which are on the newest iOS 14 beta.

I'm one of the people who can't seem to get their Airpod Pros to update; iphone 11 and 12.9 iPad Pro 3rd gen, both on latest iOS 14 betas.

How do you know when it went through besides checking the menus? Any other indication? Maybe I'm compulsively going into settings too often.

yeah, did get the update - but apple Music and Netflix are not showing 3D enabled sounds :)) anyone knows some stuff to test?

Who is laughing at me? You think this is funny? You think this is a game?

Fear not, I'm in the same boat.
I think we're just not lucky enough to get hit on this random update mechanic.

I've mostly given up checking for the day. Here's hoping I wake up to the update (and some new Apple products being announced).

this whole ordeal as made me extremely angry all day

Just tried it as well, pretty incredible really, “trippy” is the right word.
What content works with this? So far only AppleTV+ has worked for me, no Spotify or Netflix. Is it only Apple?
I tried it with blade runner 2049 and it works! The movie has Dolby atmos FYI.

Doesn't seem to be auto switching on MacOS Big Sur though... I just started playing music on my Mac and had to "manually" pair them on the Bluetooth devices list, as before the update.

Updated the AirPods, found some spatial audio examples.. whats the big deal about Spatial audio? sounds basically the same as normal stereo with exaggerated reverb.. reminds me of the fake surround using stereo of years past..

Anyone able to update his AirPod Pros with a question mark as a serial number?

edit: they‘ve just updated. Better late than never.

Same here! I also have the iphone 11 and iPad Pro 12.9 third gen. tried everything but airpods Pro not updating Form 2D27. Let me know if you see any workarounds. Best of luck :)

Those youtube statial audio examples (which is probably what you're talking about) is not what the airpods implementation is and doesn't work, only way to test it atm is with Apple tv content.

I did the following (latest public beta on iPhone 11 Pro):

- AirPods in the case
- connected the case to the cable
- opened the case so that on my iPhone I see both the AirPods and the case as overlay on the display
- closed the case
- left my iPhone close to the case and waited approx 20' doing other stuff

opened case, put AirPods, checked the menu (settings -> general -> AirPods): version is now 3A283.

Hope it helps.

Isn't that exactly what they said they did, twice?

Putting empasis on #5.

With the ‌AirPods‌ case lid open, press and hold the button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds until you see the status light flashing amber.

I've got the new firmware on both my AirPods 2 and Beats Solo Pro (haven't seen it mentioned that supported Beats also got this update).

The switching between my iPhone and Apple Watch is now utterly seamless. Brilliant bit of Apple magic. No more pre-run stress trying to get them to work.

But iOS 14 is required and there is no 14 GM or release version out, only betas so how would that explain all these people getting the update?

I assumed they have another device with iOS 13. Maybe it didn't work on previous betas or I was unlucky. Anyhow, glad that people managed to update the AirPods firmware ;)

I just watched a little of Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse using Spatial Audio on the Apple TV app on my iPhone 11Pro.
looking away from the screen give you the effect of there being high definition speakers on in a fixed location that you’ve just turned your head away from.
It’s pretty cool, I must admit.
