This worked for me. On the latest dev beta, also.
After re-linking, and put the airpods in-case on a charger, lid closed, they updated 5-10 mins later. Just FYI. GL!Will try forgetting on my iPhone and see if it works. Stay tuned

So, I don’t have Pros, just AirPod Norms. 😄 Sounds kids like that would be annoying, though. seems like many people are reporting the same ‘thought sound was coming from (device)’ phenomenon.Same. It is awesome, watching Ted Lasso and several times I could swear the Pros were not working and the sound was coming from my iPad Pro. Really immersive experience.
Not working with Plex / Infuse 5.1/7.1 content.
Was hoping it would work OOTB...
Only charge them one bud at a time????It’s not likely you really have a choice. The update will install at some point while you’re charging your AirPods. There’s no way to stop it.
Hey Harrycooke,
Yeah, having the same issue with mine iPad Pro 10.5" - Settings show update firmware but not getting the Spatial Audio button in Control Center. It showed up on my iPhone XS.
Bingo!! I was moving the phone - thanks!Got the update and holy crap Spatial audio works!
I do notice it works if you move your head, however the audio does not move if you move your phone around.
With so many quotes, idk... feels like futile attempt? XD
Does anyone use AirPods 2 update successfully?
I’ve been unable to get my AirPods 2 to update. All suggestions mentioned from others have not worked for me. Just wondering, are you running the beta on multiple devices that you see switching working so well?Mine just updated a few minutes ago. AirPods were charging and case closed with iPhone sitting next to it for about 15 minutes.
I’m INCREDIBLY impressed with how quick the auto switching is. I expected to be waiting 1-3 seconds like when switching manually, but it switches devices instantly once audio starts playing.
