Only the right AirPod is shown is the SharePlay menu after the firmware update, even if both of them are playing.

Apple hasn’t released a single thing that works properly in the past few months.

This.

The whole idea for this kind of updates to an Apple accessory is that *regular* people don’t even need to know about it.

This is a tech forum, so we’re not typically the target audience that these mechanisms are built for. I’d love the option, but I get why Apple designs this way.
I'd like to agree, but mine are already 2 revs behind... so it isn't doing the automagic part. I tried the ignore route. And the open case route (need to try the above with button push next), then on to experimenting with goats.

My AP 2 are I 2D15 since I purchased them 1 month ago and no matter how many ways I try, they just won’t update. I suspect Amazon sold me fake AirPods 2…
My pro and Max have updated very simply on the same iPhone 13 Pro following the same procedure. Let’s see tonight how it goes for all my Apple earphones.

Oh god please no. I loathe all these “companion apps” for frikkin everything. A way to update AirPods in the settings would probably ease some tension at MacRumors for sure though. ?
I agree. No app please.

5:14 PM My AirPods 3 won't update. They are still on 4B66 which was relatively easy to get. My AirPods Max did update though and it was easy.

8:15 PM The AirPods 3 finally updated to 4C165 after I plugged my iPhone in to charge. Also was able to upgrade my AirPods Pro & AirPods 2

And so begins the multi-week game to see your Airpods get the new firmware.
There’s a proven method to get it to happen instantly. Pair the AirPods with your phone, listen to some media for 30 seconds or more, take out your AirPods and replace in the case and instantly plug them into power and keep your phone and AirPods near one another for 30 minutes. If updating your AirPods Max, put them in the case before plugging them in but otherwise the process is the same.

Put them in the case, connect the case to a charger, open the lid and connect them to your iPhone / iPad / MacBook / iMac. Leave the lid open for 10 minutes or so, then close it, keeping it on the charger for another ~10 minutes and it should be updated after that.
I just made sure they saw them in settings, closed the case and sat them on the wireless charger and when I came back after my shower they were updated

My air pod pros have sounded like bass has been missing for the past several weeks.. and the case has seemed to drain faster.. hope this update helps in both issues

Do they need to be charging to be updated? I haven’t charged my case at all today and I have the new firmware somehow.

Had managed to update my airpods max easily but my airpods pro refused to update

Edit : finally got my airpods pro to update
