I think what he meant was the person (and others) that were involved with making those decisions are no longer at Microsoft. CEOs change and things change. Xbox was not doing so well until Phil Spencer took over.

I just don't buy that the culture changed. Last time I booted up my Xbox I still saw ads. Ads that were not there when I purchased the Xbox. And that's wrong, and I consider that stealing.

I certainly think the culture of Apple changed when Steve passed. They severely messed up with the 2013 trash can Mac Pro. But they have since apologized and gotten back on track IMO. What I mean is that change in leadership changes the culture. Have you noticed how much Microsoft has opened up? Visual Studio is now on mac. .NET Core and .NET 5/6 are opening up cross platform even more.

Do you consider it stealing when you browse the web and see ads pop up? Xbox isn't completely standalone, it gets OS updates that you don't pay for and it has Xbox Live - of which the lower plan is free.

I don't know what track they are on - I am glad ives is finally gone. From everything I've heard, he didn't even show up for work in the last year he was there....yet everything was driven by his design decisions to the point of failing hinges and keyboards.

But I don't know how much I trust them at this point, they seem to tighten their grip on the ecosystem more and more every year. I want to replace my macs with Apple Silicon, and I know they have promised that they won't lock them down.... but I honestly don't trust them. Wall Street comes calling, wants another trillion dollars in valuation, where can they grab more revenue? Oh I know, lock down the Mac and force all software through the App store.

Those OS updates were paid when I purchased the device. If they wanted to push an update that includes ads than they should give me the option to ignore it without breaking any existing functionality. If they have to break a function to offer an update than the update should be provided free and include compensation.

I do think websites should not have ads on their homepage, but they should also not have content on it. They should inform users of what they may see as a result of using their service. And they should be very clear about how they are tracking you, what data they collect and what data they share.

I think Steve would have had that vision as well - as in having a tight grip. Remember the Flash on iOS issue? I think that culture of Steve stayed. However the incredible detail and focus on making things the right way certainly slipped for Apple when they produced the 2013 Mac Pro.

So how many years of updates did you pay for? 1 year? 20? 100?

I have, for quite a bit and I've never had trouble competing in the Iron Banner or doing Raids. 🤷‍♀️

Why did you edit your playtime hour count? You know your profile is public, right? Busted...

Looks like Apple is trying to work with Microsoft but so that they can get something. I get why Apple wants each game as an individual app/shell on the App Store. Apple wants a cut if the user doesn’t have the game. The other reason is it benefits their reason for App Library in iOS 14.

So? I don't trust a criminal syndicate just because the Godfather was arrested. They are still doing many of these things.

Who are you kidding? Do you think Apple, Google, Tesla, Facebook, Amazon and all other big multi-nationals are all choir boys? I believe it is called 'capitalism'. They all are not elected democratically and they are all in it for the money. If you think only one of them is a 'criminal syndicate', take a step back, reorder your thoughts and count to 10....

There are two ways to look at this.
1. I didn't pay for any updates. In exchange everything that works when I purchased it works indefinitely as it did when I paid for it.
2. I paid for every update, which means I expect constant new features, bug fixes and all old features continuing to work.

In neither case did I agree to pay more by viewing ads.

This is a great idea. I don't want my kids to play age inappropriate games and I don't want to have to manage content restrictions on Microsoft's platform and Apple Screen Time. Until screen time has better content restrictions that reach into individual apps (i.e. xCloud, Netflix, Amazon Prime) this will have to do. Maybe Microsoft will eventually try to provide insight/solutions into how to implement their cloud streaming app with Apple's screen time instead of complaining about it.

Agreed. Pick the ones you trust most but keep an eye on them.

No that seems right.

lol just looked back at what I posted and noticed the extra number, weird.

But yeah about 250 hours of Destiny played along with like 150 of RDR2, about 80ish Borderlands 3 and 100 of The Division 2 and I've never found the aiming to be a problem at all.

In fact I played The Div 2 primarily with a KB+M and had no issues.

not sure what "seems right". you deliberately inflated your numbers by 10x to support your argument (i'm guessing you just did the right click -> inspect trick)

anyways, there's no point in arguing with you considering you'd lie to prove your point. have a nice day.

So they are basically inteoducing Setapp for games - Setapp recently entered the App Store, where one subscription covers multiple premium iOS apps.

So Apple might be willing to adjust its App Store policies to be more reasonable if I work with them instead of breaching contract and then making a huge circus out of a lawsuit???

Never would have guessed...
There is nothing reasonable about the policies Apple came up with. A streaming service should not require installing every single app secretly, this change does not address the issue.

This is a bit better but also totally ridiculous.

If I'm streaming a game, why do Apple need to know? My account with the other company will determine whether I can play it or not.

I get that they don't want to do emulators that allow code to be run that could harm the end user but to not allow streaming, unless they have some control over it, and can make money from it is ridiculous.

I need a few governments to smack Apple really hard to wake them up to be better to the people who buy their phones.

I am legit curious as to what ads you are talking about. Is it the one on the main page that you see on the right of all your stuff where it says "sponsored"?

I'm curious, why wouldn't it be a good experience?

I mean, first off there's nothing to download in the first place. It's *streaming*... like Netflix, Vudu, Spotify, Apple Music, et al.

Second off, it's streaming, like Netflix, Vudu, Spotify and Apple Music, et al. You see something you want to play, you tap it. There's nothing to download.

Yes, that's two identical answers worded in the opposite directions. It's confounding because this new rule is confounding. It just don't make no sense. Why would Chewbacca, a Wookiee, an 8-foot-tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of 2-foot-tall Ewoks? That does not make sense!

Ah, the Chewbacca Defense. I see you are a man of culture as well.

in case you were wondering, I was a kid once and I saw a boob.I survived the ordeal, and from others I’ve spoken to the survival rate for such incidences is very high.
