So is there supposed to be an App Store update for Boot Camp 6?
I'm still on 5.xx and not getting any updates showing no matter what I do.

I don't think it comes via the App Store. The update is for drivers for Windows. So you can either download them in OS X through the BootCamp Assistant or through Apple Software Update in Windows.

Ok - Thx for the clarity - I keep seeing "Boot Camp 6" mentioned and it's confusing as the Boot Camp Assistant version is still 5.xx

The problem here, I think, is people are seeing this as an overly-short cutoff compared to past experience. I'd agree. If it isn't technical (which I don't think it is), then it's some form of planned-obsolence (i.e.: motivate the class of users using it to upgrade to newer machines).

Really? Then how come they aren't pulling this same stunt with ElCapitan? If I remember correctly you can upgrade to ElCapitan from any Mac that runs Mavericks. I have a 2011 iMac and there are plenty of people that run Mavericks on 2010 hardware which is going on 6 years old. If Apple was truly trying to force people to upgrade they would shorten the compatibility of their own OS rather than some competitor's OS.

My update is failing with the error: "The file blah blah...is not a valid installation package for the product Boot Camp Services. Try to find the installation package 'BootCamp.msi' in a folder from which you can install Boot Camp Services"

I've already dug it out and it fails.

I'm having this problem too, when running Apple Software Update to get the Boot Camp 6 drivers. I did a search for the installer file, but no luck... sounds like an Apple bug. Maybe the installer file has a temporary name, so I'll do a more extensive search.

Don't know if that really matters. W10 runs fine on my 2009 iMac which isn't on the list either. And I think it ran on my 2009 MBP as well, but I have deleted the Partition by now.
the thing is they are not supporting certain computers that have potential to work....so i don't get it unless it's business-wise which it is...

This may or may not be of any help to anyone, but I had a legit install of Windows 10 Home installed in Bootcamp (from about a week ago.) Everything was working except it didn't have any GPU drivers, and couldn;t get any. Anyway, long story short, I booted into Windows 10 and ran Apple Software Updater which had the new Bootcamp. During installation it rebooted at some point (maybe intentionally?) and from then on out when I tried to boot into Windows I got a long black screen and then it reverted to booting into OSX.

Long Story Short(er) I deleted Windows 10 via my Bootcamp Assistant in OS X and did the process over in Bootcamp assistant from scratch. Upon install of Windows 10 I saw it grab the Bootcamp 6 updated files and now I am 100% cleanly installed and operating perfectly. My AMD drivers come in as 15.02 something I think? (Retina iMac)

Anyway, you may need to just do a fresh install, if at all possible.

They made an entire computer, actually 32 different models of them, completely and officially compatible with Windows 10 within 3 days.

There are manufacturers that can't get their ONE device to get Windows 10 compatibility that fast.

My insomniac Microsoft Surface Pro for instance!

Why don't you just use, the simple command prompt trick?

a) Partition you're HD; create a 2nd partition
b) Download Windows 10 x64 iso or USB installation
c) Download Bootcamp 6 drivers to a USB pen
d) Install Windows on the 2nd partition
e) insert the pen with Bootcamp; open a cmd prompt as admin
f) Run msiexec /i BootCamp64.msi on the drivers\apple folder
g) Install and reboot
h) Enjoy a great OS
i) On you're next purchase; don't forget to tell apple to go FU!

As a side note; take a look on the privacy settings, of Windows 10 & Mac OS X whatever...

Can't believe this is being debated. There's no reason for Apple to add support in 6 for older machines that are fully supported in 5.1. If 6 included every driver for every Intel Mac the BC package would be several gigs in size.

Even the 5.1 packages come in two versions for different Macs.

And nearly every driver you need is included in Windows. The only Max specific things you need are keyboard, trackpad, mouse, control panel, HFS.
While HFS is not Mac exclusive since third party drivers may handle it, perfectly.

By the way, after upgrading to boot camp 6 on my supported Mac, default HFS driver provided by Apple breaks my third party HFS driver. I need to reinstall it to gain back r/w on HFS partition.

Really now??? Is Apple suppose to make sure that the latest version of their competitor's OS runs on their system from day one?
Apple underestimates the powerful hardware compatibly of Windows, far better than Mac OS X.

hmm. My late 2012 iMac isn't seeing the bootcamp update in Apple Software update in my Bootcamp Partition. I already have Windows 10 running in Bootcamp (upgraded from Windows 8). Any idea how to get Apple Software update to see Bootcamp 6? I'm downloading the Bootcamp assistant files in OS X now, will see if they work when I boot back to Windows.

EDIT: I downloaded the new drivers from Bootcamp assistant in OSX and ran the setup.exe in Windows 10. Voila. On Bootcamp 6.0 and my Magic Mouse now scrolls in Windows!

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 that I ran the software hack that made the firmware 2,1. I have a flashed 3GB PC video card in it as well. It's running Windows 10 w/out issue. I never even installed the software from Apple. The bootcamp software and Apple software are nowhere on it. It's currently installed on a second hard drive in the Mac Pro. I upgraded straight from Windows 7 64-bit to Windows 10. No issues on the update from Microsoft either.

Shame on apple not supporting devices that can clearly support and run windows 10, You pay a huge premium for not only the quality of the devices, but also there "Awesome support and services:"/ And they go and do that yet again.

Been using windows 10 pro on my 2010 Mac Pro sense win10 was release used Bootcamp drivers from windows 8.1 and it works fine, My sound, keyboard, mouse, brightness, volume controls all works fine and that's all I care about

I just tried W10 x64 on MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2014 with Boot Camp 6:

- Did not detect both of Thunderbolt monitors connected each in separate Tb ports
- Close lid shuts down mac, like hard shutdown, even with connected external USB keyboard
- No USB peripherals detected in second monitor
- Default font size set to 125% ?!

...no thank you...
Damn, I've been waiting for the TB fix for years! Using windows only apps like visual studio and Photoshop is "usable" in parallels but I can see the lag when moving windows across monitors and the obvious "overhead" of running in a VM

I have a 2013 15-inch retina MacBook Pro, one of the supported models, and I cannot get the update. I tried Apple's App Store, and it didn't work. I tried updating Apple's drivers in Windows 8.1, and it didn't work either. Should I install Windows 10 first and then update the drivers?

Something is not right. When I download the Boot Camp Support Software in OS X on my mid-2012 rMBP (using Boot Camp Assistant) then try to install it in Windows I get the error "This version of Boot Camp is not intended for this computer model.”

Apple says that the Boot Camp Support Software 6 is supported on mid-2012 retina MacBook Pros. Even if it weren't, you'd think that Boot Camp Assistant would download software that actually works.

Anyone else run into this?

The Mac is probably the best hardware to run Windows on. A much more premium experience. Apple just make better hardware.

God, if only I'd known that before I sold my MBP for a Dell XPS 15.

I think it's more accurate to say Apple do not make cheap hardware, at the top end Apple is comparable to any other high end make.

This is why I buy Apple and run bootcamp and just keep a little 35GB OSX partition. I like the hardware not the OS and in my scenario parallels would be hassle.

For the same reason I believe Apple has bootcamp for commercial reasons and its not just a nice free utility some think, ie they can appeal to a much wider audience.

One should not knock OSX or Windows features be it Cortana or touch screens, apps etc or even iTunes all these features suit different users for different reasons and promote development and choice, which eventually benefit all, just ignore the bits you don't like.

It seems to me dropping off windows support for slightly older Macs seems a bit deliberate and commercial sense in todays market trends where phones costing $700-1000 are upgraded bi-annually if not annually, else Apple would not exist as we know it.

For me I'm happy with the update as I finally have BT support in windows for my 2015 Mackbook 12

That's a long way to say, in OS X create a thumb drive using the Boot Camp Assistant and install that in Windows 10. That's as close as you are going to get and it usually works pretty well.

Can you please explain how to do this more specifically?

I have a mid-2010 MBP and want to install Windows 10, what exactly should I do?

Assuming you have bootcamp and windows 7,8,or 8.1 installed you need to update this from windows side to windows 10

You must make sure you have loaded all the updates 1st, you know this when you get a notification to DL windows 10. At this point you can 1) Wait days/weeks for the roll out to your PC or download the USB or ISO file from Microsoft and do the upgrade yourself, They provide a guide and assistant app to help you do this.

You then need to re-install your windows drivers supplied from Apple to do this:

From OSX side run the bootcamp assistant and use the part to download windows support drivers to a USB drive. Re start windows and run the setup from the usb you just created. It may be preferable to do this before the upgrade to windows 10.

If you do not have a windows partition and windows 7,8,or 8.1 installed you need to run the bootcamp assistant fully from OSX which guides you through the whole install process, but you will install the windows support drivers twice, once for windows 7,8,or 8.1 and then again after you have upgraded to windows 10 note you already have the drivers so no need to DL again to USB. You may also be lucky and the drivers do not need updating the second time, just check function keys etc to see if they are working ok
