Is having the ability to sort the songs view by artist/year a new feature? Because it's awesome. Now I have all my albums listed chronologically within each artist, which is listed alphabetically.

To give you an example of what I mean, when I scroll down to P and look at Pink Floyd, instead of seeing A Saucerful then Animals and then Atom Heart Mother, it now lists all the albums chronologically from earliest to latest. I like that a lot.

That, combined with the return of album artwork and the fact that multi-disc albums are recognized as individual albums - is great. I'm really liking this update.

I'd personally like to see iTunes hide tracks that don't have any album information from album view instead of showing "Unknown Album". The stock gray album artwork kind of disrupts the overall flow.

It took me years, but I finally went through my entire library and correctly labeled every track as near as possible to the correct, or relevant, album and found (usually high-rez) artwork. No more holes in my library. Like many here, I'm extremely OCD about my library.

they also changed the way you update apps. took me a moment to find the "update" button ^^

edit: well this is freaking annoying ... i have a german and a US itunes account with some apps purchased here and there and i can no longer use the update all button because it spits out an error saying "please switch to the german store"

basically it shows "all" available updates now, it used to only show the us apps when im logged in with the us account and the german ones when i log in with the german account. now its all mixed together

Absolutely concur! This "update" absolutely messes up the update process (as if it were anything remotely agreeable before)! Thank you, Apple! Idiots!

The user is also repeatedly tricked into re-entering [one of] his iTunes account data (email and password) to "update" apps. Then, the following idiotic statement pops up: "You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software."

Oh, well… I forgot this one:
And, of course, this one as well for many an app:

The album name was always the same.

Not always in my experience.

You can no longer view your artwork at full resolution [when] you click the small icon in the progress bar area at the top.

What is "always show" for under view options for the artwork, wouldn't it always show if you turn it on without having to click that box?

The same appears to be true of the Mac version as well. This is definitely a little disappointing, but I don't often view the high-rez artwork on my Mac to be honest. I do view it on me my HDTV via AirPlay to my AppleTV though, so I'll continue to seek out high-rez artwork for my music.

The "Always Show" checkbox is to force iTunes to show artwork for albums that don't have enough tracks to fill the space that the artwork would take up. Without that checked, single songs, for instance, would not show artwork, but instead be listed as a single line item.

If it was a snake, it would have bit me. Thanks.

If it's showing updates for all authorized accounts, that's a good thing. iOS has always had that, and was hoping it'd get added to iTunes someday. I've always been annoyed when I have "no updates", but the update button shows one or more - then, I have to log out, take a guess at what other account might have an update, start the update, then log out and back into my main account (I only have a few other authorized accounts, but still annoying).

I removed the disk 1 and 2 in the title and yes, it became one album (Bee Gees) THX!
.

That worked. But seeing that I use Itunes match it would be nice if they corrected the albums on iTunes, having to go through my entire music collection to fix this will suck.

My OCD loves your OCD :)

Spoke to soon. Removing Disc 1 from title only worked for 1 album so far. The whole things still seems very buggy and unreliable.

-Multi-Disc Albums. Albums with multiple discs now appear as a single album.

Finally! I'm really looking forward to this. It was really annoying to have multiple discs show when this could have been solved by just showing one single album.

The only difference is that now iTunes show "Album 1", "Album 2" titles. But if the files are tagged wrong there's still some manual work to be done.
For multiple disc albums to be displayed under one album cover they need to have the same album title. They often have [Disc 1], [Disc 2],... suffixes thus iTunes displayes them as different albums. But it's simply uniforming the title (getting rid of the [Disc 1] from the title) that solves the problem + filling in the "no. of discs" boxes accordingly.

Yes, this is aggravating, and has not been fixed.

I did figure out how to get back to what's playing quickly though:
at the top where the song is playing,
click on the arrow next to the song title,
then on Go To "song title"
it will scroll down to where ever in the song list that song is playing.

Problem is, I keep forgetting about that function.

Have you actually installed this update? This has been fixed.

My biggest complaint with iTunes is when you switch from your library to the iTunes Store and then back, it loses your place in the library.

Example - I'm in songs view, and I've searched for "Blink 182" so it's only displaying my Blink 182 songs. Then I go to store and back again and the search is gone and I'm at the top of my massive list of songs again.

The reason this annoys me is I use the store a lot to make sure my track names and order are correct (super OCD about my music library).

Anyway I doubt they will fix this but I'm curious to see when I get home from work.

This has been fixed in this build.

That's not even that similar. Look no further than google images to see a complete ripoff of itunes 11's album view when you click an album and it expands.

Talk about "from the Whooosh! dept".

The point is one of the great things about this new version is...

Apple said:
New MiniPlayer. MiniPlayer now includes a beautiful new view that showcases your album artwork. In addition, a progress bar is now built right into MiniPlayer.

The "new" miniplayer is really just Apple putting back the miniplayer from iTunes 10 they removed. The one with "fade-out controls and a progress bar built-in".

Really? Click on the album artwork in iTunes 11.0-11.0.2

I can't. I'm still running iTunes 10.7, and if I install iTunes 11 it will "update" (read: make not compatible for no reason) my library files with the older version. I have no intention of changing over to the ugly new interface and losing cover flow among other things, and I don't feel like making backups and crap of the existing library files to restore from to spend 5 minutes playing in iTunes 11.

Tell me, if this miniplayer has been present in the previous iTunes 11 versions, what's "new" about it then?

Ah. That is interesting.

Course nowadays I just use my media keys on my keyboard to control iTunes so I don't even use the mini-player. I like having the artwork visible, though.

It will take a bit more than that to make me update, Apple.
Significant performance improvements and resource reductions is what I really want.

Is the bug fixed that for songs shorter than 10 seconds (snippets) the playcount isn't updated?

(for example "Rotosound Strings" from The Who Album Thirty Years of Maximum R&B)

Can someone please confirm if they've sorted out being able to change Media Type of a file while iTunes Match is switched on?

I'm still running 10.x because of this. Is iTunes 11 actually better now, or are people still pining for 10?

Album sort

I wonder when they will finally make albums sort by release year instead of name when the primary sort key is the artist.
