No, I believe you are naive believing they didn't spend at lease 20 billion on R & D for a project they were working on since 2015.

Sorry... I'm not into *guessing* what Apple's R&D costs are.

Why wouldn't you believe Apple is stupid if their return is as poor as you *believe* it is? Especially now releasing AVP gen 2?

Honestly, I've been using it since Day 1. I don't recommend it to everyone yet. It's still price too high and the quality of the apps isn't there. Apple still hasn't updated some of their own stock apps to VisionOS.

Get a Gen 1 for under $2,000 if you are curious about the AVP. That's a lot easier to stomach than nearly $4,000 with taxes.
What do you use it for?

Apple threw money at a stupid project. It failed and they are ready to move on. Google does the same **** all the time.
Im sorry but do you think R&D just disappears into thin air? Everything they develop, test etc is often used in multiple products. Its not like all 20 billion (guess pulled from thin air) goes 100% into the vision pro and then thrown out if the AVP fails

The Vision Pro will forever be an Apple Device I see in screenshots. The price is so far away from what I want to pay for a VR headset that I didn't even want to try a demo of one in an Apple Store - thats how much of a turn off the price is.

Great-but what about the new Apple TV?!!
Exactly.

Apparently, they can stick an M5 into a pair of glasses where it’s limited by battery and heat constraints. But all this time refusing to stick a proper M-chip into an AppleTV that could run AAA games.

Are they finally going to put an M5 into AppleTV with the impending refresh? Hope dies last…

May I suggest doing the demo and buying a used one on ebay. You can get them like new for like 1.8k or even cheaper with this launch

Maybe if they rename it and offer serious game controller requirements

Development purposes.

If you want better apps, you need better hardware. The M2 can only do so much before you need a better chip. The highly sought-after "killer apps" would undoubtedly become even more impressive with enhanced hardware.

Apple is providing developers with the necessary tools and resources to expand their creative vision beyond the capabilities demonstrated with the M2 model.

Yes. Not having an M5 must be why Apple hasn’t produced native Vision OS versions of many of their own apps and why Apple doesn’t permit MacOS apps to run. Like all developers, the M2 was holding them back. Sure…

Updating to the M5 is crucial for long term support, but the M2 isn’t the reason for the lack of “killer apps”.

Correct but the M2 was a reason for me to not keep the first gen. It was a hot and inefficient chip, plus the sharpness was almost there but not good enough for a 3.5k device. With it now supporting 120hz and 10% more pixels I am hoping and praying it is now perfect (which is what I demand for a 3.5k product)

Did you forget the part where I wrote: " The highly sought-after "killer apps" would undoubtedly become even more impressive with enhanced hardware."

M5 will simply make the apps better due to the more powerful chip.

With an estimated $20 billion+ being put into the AVP's R&D, $1.4 billion in revenue is a catastrophic failure imo.
How so? Couldn't some of that knowledge they learned from the AVP be put to use with other devices such as the glasses?

You said for development purposes, which goes a little beyond existing apps running better. That’s not development in itself.

Every complaint about AVP has been some version of too expensive and too heavy/clunky/uncomfortable, and they addressed neither issue except for a ridiculous looking new strap. Doesn’t seem they’re treating this as a serious product.

Those of you who own an AVP, what’s your main use case for it and would you benefit from M5 for that particular use case?

With the M5 chip, the Vision Pro offers faster performance and longer battery life compared to the previous model with the M2 chip.

“Better performance”, OR “faster”, but not both please, for the love of pleonastic gods!
