I'm upgrading as I have an XR but this year could have been better. However, I think it's the '6s' of this decade and that's a good thing.

Why do the Macrumors guys keep hitting Apple like this (with some interest-driven polls)?
MR is becoming more and more a gathering place of negative editors who take pleasure in showing what's bad about Apple and where problems exist. And do not take pleasure in showing what is outstandingly good.

The proportion of negative press to genuine technical rumors has shifted significantly. Either the new people at Macrumors are simply no friends of Apple anymore, or they make better money with bad news. We readers don't always have to like it, though.

Yup next year is gonna be crazy the iPhone 14 lineup will finally be a worthy upgrade 🥳 I hope all the models get 120hz

Are people not camping in lines to buy them this time?

oh yeah, totally forgot that was a thing! I remember going to the mall and lining up for a bit for the iPhone 4.. that was amazing when it came out...

I guess this is expected. The camera upgrades caught me, but if you are not into photography I can see not upgrading. I came from a 12 PM and am very happy with the upgrade. The camera is much better, screen is much smoother, overall a bit snappier.

I like it. Pro Motion makes it feel smooth and premium. Its just nice to have. I lived without it, and I could again, but it’s about half as nice as getting retina displays. Cool but not mind blowing.

Macro mode is good, but I wish we could get it without the ultra wide which isn’t as bright and has softer corners. I snapped a photo of some kind of tiny orange lizard while hiking in Vermont today while on vacation. Not ideal conditions, was overcast and pretty dark in the forest climbing a mountain in a state park. But I was able to brighten it up a little doing some edits in the Photos app. I’ve also attached a few other random macro shots I’ve taken during this trip, and one low light photo of my son watching our jet get refueled late in the evening because we had to divert due to bad weather. These are all photos I wouldn’t have either because I didn’t have my camera on me, or in the case of the lizard and apple, I didn’t have my macro lens with me while hiking and apple picking.

It still amazes me to this day that one can have a 5G pocket computer, GPS, camera, flashlight, gaming, smart home device in my pocket, and people aren’t satisfied. Just as long as these same people don’t request for a thinner phone at the expense of battery life and it’s happy days.

okay, the watch can be improved haha.

Imagine how much better our society would be if everything wasn't scrutinized so completely. Seriously, the media has to make an issue out of everything. Does it have to be a winner or a loser, or maybe we can just let it be an incremental upgrade with a better camera and battery.

I think apple will have no charging port before they have usb-c on an iPhone.

Makes no sense. They’re basically cameras. iPhone 14 will be more megapixels. 8k video will be larger. Good luck with the no ports fantasy.

my family bought three 13 minis. Coming from 7s and a 5SE. Even then, we all agree that they are nice, and we are happy, but in the end of the day, it’s still the same apps.
i really don’t understand people upgrading yearly for the features.

Still not sure what the big deal is. Nearly a quarter of existing iPhone users said they still intend to upgrade to some iPhone 13 variant. Apple has over a billion iPhone users. This doesn’t even count android users who’ll switch as well.

iPhone 12 sold just over a 100 million units in its first year. Granted this is just a survey but nothing to take negatively. https://www.macrumors.com/2021/06/30/iphone-12-passes-100-million-sales/. Heck I wouldn’t even take it seriously. Apple sure would love it if it panned out. Lol.

That isn't the thing -- other than 5G, most have that already.
And if you have a 12, you already had 5G also.

If you need a camera, it's better to buy a camera not a phone
That is true for professional photographers or people who love to take professional pictures.
For other folks however, the best camera is the one with them.
How often do those of us who are not professional photographers carry a dedicated camera outside of the house all the time?

Really? My impression has been the exact opposite. Every time I come on here there's several new fluff pieces talking up Apple doing this or that superfluous thing and the fanboys tearing apart anybody who doesn't fall in lockstep with the piece in the comments. There are some consistent haters for sure but it's far more the former than the latter these days.
