So iPhone 13 Pro Max user here (upgraded from 12 PM) . I too was underwhelmed UNTIL I actually got the darn thing. It's AMAZING ( and reviews point the same way) Can't knock it til you try it. Not having to charge my phone ALL DAY...macro photos. ... C'mon son.

A random iphone 13 review (<--)
Coming from a 12 Pro Max and you describe it as "AMAZING" (in all CAPS)???
I'm upgrading from an 11 Pro Max is it's one big YAWN. I don't have to charge my 11 PM more than once a day as it is. Macro is probably fun. For a week or two. Is macro worth $1500? 120Hz was barely noticeable.

You know what WAS noticeable? The "less-white" display on the 13 PM. My 11 PM is white. The 13 PM was not. A friend of mine who bought a 13 PM, his display was leaning towards reddish tint.

PLENTY of people complain about the crappy display on the 13. Hardly "AMAZING".

I held onto it for a week, hoping something awesome would be uncovered, or Apple would rush out some updates to fix the litany of issues with it, but no. Instead it was taken to the Post Office today for it's round trip back to AT&T.

Literally the first time a keynote didn’t even tempt me to even consider upgrading either one. Usually the marketing video + new colors are like I WANT but this year I even forgot the launch day

But I still tend to keep 5G turned off for fear of using battery power unnecessarily.

If I'm going to need fast transfer speeds for a given task, I turn 5G on, go through with the task, then turn 5G back off.
That’s really not necessary with the X60.

And what you’re describing is exactly what 5G Auto mode does, automatically.

I still find it surprising people upgrade every year still. year after year it hasn’t been a big change since iPhone 6 days back in 2014. I understand people on upgrade programs but you do realize you are still paying 50$ for life every month for a new phone which you don’t need. Unless you are rich and don’t care about money I don’t see why people are upgrading year after year.
every 2 years is the best and the deals you get on a trade in when your phone is paid off makes it way less overall.
This year is pretty underwhelming coming from the 12’s lineup.
Apple needs to work on more software now and less on these small updates. Get rid of the notch completely and innovate again.
The 12’s design with the flat sides is basically perfect in my eyes. Minus the notch.
Really want Touch ID back I’ve grown to hate face id since my x after a few months with it.

I feel the same with all watches and phones though. Even folding models are variations on a theme. While I find some cool, the idea of them lasting as long as I tend to keep my secondary devices seems a bit dubious.

My iPhone 8 (front and back glass broken) with TouchID is far superior to 13 with no TouchID.
It was a nice feature for sure. Though once you get past the unlocking phase, the newer devices do quite a bit of nice things, all with some really nice screens and other features too ;) .

For me the iPhone 13 Pro is a very exciting upgrade and that is coming from iPhone 11 Pro Max. The new design, 5g, Promotion screen, much improved camera and battery and many others. If someone is on iPhone 12/Pro I could see 13/Pro to be a less exciting purchase, but still there are many more improvements than what Apple offered on Watch.

Watch on the other hand is a total joke and I agree with the survey. I still have Series 4 and honestly, I can't find a single reason to upgrade. I am not complaining as it saves me $800 in my pocket (I always go with Stainless Steel) and I am perfectly fine with the performance etc of my watch so the longer I get to keep it, the better I will feel about it.
We are quite similar in views. My 13 ProMax is a major improvement in features for me and I had wanted the rumored 1TB on 12 that never came. Battery life is very major and more I use that on my 13 ProMax the more I love it.

I also have watch 4 and mostly are same as you after my 3 when I went to 4 I just did aluminum and yes what you say about the 4 is true. And I am not going to agonize with opening day and such as I did with my phone (got 10/6-10/11 but it came on 9/30 for me) So once they are l local I might get another aluminum one. The longer battery life and 20 percent larger screen sound a bit intriguing but we shall see

I'm only underwhelmed because I own an iPhone 12 Pro Max and an Apple Watch Series 6, neither of which feels all that long in the tooth a year in. We're very much past the point where upgrading annually makes any kind of sense, even as someone who is eligible to do so through their payment plan. Heck, I doubt there'll be a reason to upgrade till at least 2024 for me now.

I actually was happy to upgrade to the 13 PM but ecstatic when I got the device and saw how good it was.. the battery speed and smoothness is beyond ridiculous. Very happy with my purchase.
The Apple Watch isn’t doing anything exciting for me and I have an S4. It easily gets 2 full days battery so unless this is going to last a week plus I’ll wait until it’s got some new sensors or something.

I think the general agreement with the iPhone mini is that people want a mini pro. Small screen with the same specs as the max.
Yes, but -- have you seen the cameras on the iPhone 13 Pro? There's no way that would work on the mini I don't think. It's a big jump in size from the camera module on the 12 Pro. I just saw them in person for the first time the other day, and I was like, whoa.

I'm pretty sure there's a bump on 13 Pro cases to accommodate the camera, which kind of bums if I'm correct -- a case will no longer be completely flat when the phone is lying on its back. The camera bulge would just be ridiculous on the mini, if they could even make the other internals work.

After so many complains from forum posters regarding USB-C, it’s fighting with “number 13 superstition” for the last reason why people won’t buy an iPhone.

You’re gonna be waiting a looooooooong time for USB-C. As in, when pigs fly.

Oh, but they have.

Anyway, this is not very useful, because exciting =/= good. I think the iPhone 13 is not exciting, and at the same time I think it’s one of the best upgrades.

I upgraded from the 12 Pro Max and I can tell you I was absolutely going to return it if I found it unworthy to upgrade to. Without going into details I can tell you that my 12 Pro Max is long gone now. The 13 is everything I wanted it to be and more.
Curious what new features on the 13 Pro Max you found worth $1300 (or $1500 if you got the 512GB)?

Well for one I only paid $300 for the device because I sold my mint 12 Pro Max for $1250.

The camera is spectacular. The battery life is spectacular. The Pro Motion screen is spectacular. That’s all I wanted and it was totally worth it for me.

I prefer the rounded design of the 11 Pro Max over the 13 PM (which just feels heavy and uncomfortable to hold with the sharp angles on the edges).

For me (and most people) 5G is not a thing yet. I can sit in an IKEA parking lot and get fast 5G speeds, but everywhere else, it's no better than LTE. Camera, battery and ProMotion were not worth $1500 to me.

I was excited that AT&T was giving me $1000 for my 11 PM, but then being tied to it for 3 YRS to get all my credits? I'd miss out on (hopefully) a much more exciting iPhone 14 or 15.

If your current iPhone works fine and still fits your needs, there’s objectively no reason to upgrade. The fact that iPhone sales have been declining since 2015, more than 6 years now, indicates that more and more people are no longer fooled by Apple into thinking the opposite.

Both of these photos are supposed to be a good example of iPhone 13 superiority?

The top one has seriously horrible boca with focus issues all over the frame. The flower has some sharpness but quickly gets lost when you see background elements with hard edges and then added software blur.

The bottom one looks like the phone has no idea where to focus. The bee (assuming this is the subject) is blurred meanwhile other random things are artificially out of focus with motion blur.

"C'mon son"

I honestly think if they had gone with "S" year naming (12s Mini, 12s, 12s Pro, 12s Pro Max) a lot of this letdown would not exist.

Going with the full "13" moniker suggested a bigger update.

I'd say you paid $1550 for the 13 and you broke even (sort of) on your 12 Pro Max (unless that was given to you as a gift) ;)

Glad you're happy!
