Some Apple Vision Pro owners have been dealing with health issues related to the wearing of the headset, according to a report from MarketWatch. The site spoke to Vision Pro owners experiencing headaches and neck pain, among other issues.

Emily Olman, marketing chief of Hopscotch Interactive, said she got two "superdark black eyes" after wearing the Vision Pro for the first time, likely caused by the weight on the cheeks. Ian Beacraft, CEO of consulting firm Signal, told MarketWatch that he had pain at the base of his skull and his upper back.

There have also been complaints about the Vision Pro on Reddit from users experiencing ongoing headaches, eye strain, and pain from the weight of the device. Some users have had luck with modified straps and third-party products, and other people have no issue with the headset and the default band options.

Apple declined to comment on the customer complaints, directing MarketWatch to its user guidelines. Apple recommends taking a break from the headset every 20 to 30 minutes during the acclimation period, and to stop using the headset when feeling unwell. Apple does not recommend that people experiencing eye strain, headache, or pain continue to use the device.

The eye strain and headaches are caused from having 5G radiation so close to your head and eyes. I can't see it being good to use long term and one of the reason I won't let my child get a VR set. Who knows what kind of damage your doing to your DNA cells. I know I sound a litte paranoid, but I'm being cautious. Nobody knows the long term effects yet.

exactly that’s like how ping, airpower, apple maps launch, batterygate were all successes. because we still talk about them
You still talk about the Apple Maps Launch.. 😂😂😂

what’s ping? But I guess we are still talking about the Battery Law suit since the Canadian part of the suit only came out this week - $15 . Ka-ching? And we still talk about Samsungs battery failures too. And we continue to talk about Google and Samsung's snail slow roadmap. And there is an entire (growing) website with all Googles failures (294 as of this week). So you may have something there. I concede that we talk about everyone’s failures way too much instead of appreciating the good things in life…

A big bucket of chum in the water…
I'm curious as to why whenever people have seemingly legitimate issues with an Apple product you consider it "chum in the water" and immediately dismiss the issues people are having with it.

Are the issues widespread? Probably not at this stage. Are they being magnified for clicks & pageviews because Apple? I would say probably as well but I'm not going to dismiss them out-of-hand.

It’s worth saying that everyones body is different.

Thats not an excuse. It’s a datapoint.

I used the thing for 45 minutes and had no issues. But at the same time WITHOUT using the Vision Pro, I have random back issues, and random points on my chest get light bruises.

Before anyone makes any sarcastic comments, I’m an engineer, so my torso is probably the least used part of my body so get over it.

This isn’t about apologizing for Apple. This is just the reality of this market, where they intentionally sold it for $3500. It’s Gen 1.

If you want to say thats unreasonable, why not say that to the people that bought a solid gold Apple Watch, or the celebrities that had the solid gold link band (probably cost as much as the Apple Watch).

You can't make an omlette without breaking some eggs.

Not everyone will find it perfectly comfortable, but the vast majority do and that's good enough.

I am not surprised on the head ache part at all. Devices like the Apple Vision really messes with our eyes as the field of focus is really close but our brain and eyes think it is really far away on items so the focusins gets messed up and it is really hard on both the eyes and brain as what it expect to happen and reality dont line up. Trying to focus for far away and turns out to not work.
The focus distance is farther away than any other display people regularly use other than TVs.
These were things found out early on with things like Google Glasses and oculus rift well before Facebook bought them. It is not something Apple can solve it is a fundmental an issue with the tech.
Meta/Oculus has developed and shown several prototypes using different methods to enable dynamic focus depth. Those methods obviously come with trade-offs, because they aren't in commercial products yet, but they prove that its an issue that can be solved.

It’s a Vision into the future. For some, the future is not that great. Not Apple’s fault. Great product, would wear it all day long.

edit: This looks like a legit apple fan boy comment. It is sarcasm.

True. I have those ears that don't suit the AirPods, so revert to the Powerbeat Pros. I'm not going to whine like a baby, like some on here that a product doesn't work for them.

I could not imagine that wearing a heavy helmet would cause neck pain or headache...

Unveliable

I did the demo and they used my glasses and said that they had in stock at the store the correct lenses. I strongly doubt they had those because my prescription is for something a little bit complex. Did you get prescription inserts for this gadget?

I gave up on trying to get the right glasses to be honest. I spent 800 EUR on glasses last year and they ended up not fitting me right at all. Previously I went to 3 different stores to do a test and each one gave me different results (one actually gave up because my results where not conclusive because I kept saying something else), then I actually went to a proper ophthalmologist after my dog caused me a corneal abrasion by mistake and she came to other results AGAIN. I took those results to a glasses store to get those 800 EUR glasses, the person took some test before and yet again those did not match the previous results from the ophthalmologist. I gave up.

Great technology. Commercial depth charge. If it's a) $4,000 and b) has to be accommodated by the user, it's going to fail. Hard. Pretty alarming that Apple weren't able to see this before putting it to market.

Notches in laptops, deleting the most popular colors, punching grotesque slots into cellphones, launching a health hazard VR headset that almost no one can afford. The fact that Cook was lauding AVP as the second coming of Steve Jobs shortly after launch indicates to me that Apple is lost at sea.

My favorite comments whenever someone has a legit complaint “you’re just broke and never would have bought it anyway! The only people complaining are trolls”

commenter. Meet reality

Strapping a computer to your head is uncomfortable? Didn’t see that coming! How many times are tech companies going to push these helmet/goggle/mask machines before they figure out that these make a great tech demo, amusement park ride, etc but have very limited unique capabilities and far too many compromises beyond what we can already do with our eyes and external screens.

You’re the only one talking about Ping.
Absolutely no problems at all. I find the VisionPro very comfortable on my face using the standard strap
the only thing more comfortable is having nothing strapped to your face and looking at regular screen in real life rather than fantasy land. And nothing more uncomfortable than talking to someone wearing one of these, knowing full well that they are probably not giving you their full attention and instead looking at a bunch of virtual screens.

A helmet form factor with a flip down visor would eliminate the weight and black eye issue. Yeah it would be heavier, but the weight would be distributed over the entire head. In every SciFi show, it's always a VR helmet, never googles.

The neck pain is most likely from bad posture. Heck, I have neck pain from sitting at a desk all day--and that's without the added weight of a VR google.
That or the halo type head strap the play station vr has to evenly distribute that weight

A solution in search of a problem... and creating more problems along the way. What. Is. The. Point?

I’m continually amazed at the amount of vitriol this product creates within the tech community and abroad. It’s been nice to see most of it die down post-launch.

It’s just a computer.
