Apple VP Kaiann Drance Interview Addresses Battery Life, MagSafe, and Power Adapter Concerns

May be throwing 1 dollar USB-A to USB -C adaptor could be a optimal solution for legacy chargers users and would be nice to have accessory for everyone

You get to state an opinion, I get to state an opinion...that's how in internet discussion forums works? Saying what is reality or not, is based on ones biases, which amounts to just another opinion. Right?
No I don't waste time with opinions. And I don't believe in this "everyone has an opinion" nonsense. I stated facts. You came up with your own that suited your argument. Nothing else has happened here.

The fact is apple included a usb-c cable with the iPhone 12. Virtually every post on that is an opinion.

No. If you don’t have a USB-A lightning cable already *and* you don’t have a USB-C charger anywhere in the house, you’re in the minority of iPhone 12 customers. “Shipping a cable that most people will throw in a drawer” I would stay that’s more applicable to the USB-A cable, not USB-C.

Of course you can’t snap your fingers to make that happen, that’s why you start accelerating this USB-C transition by including USB-C by default.
Including a cable that doesn't plug in to most chargers, most outlets, most cars, most installations, most accessories, most places...isn't accelerating any kind of transition, I can assure you of that. It's just a cable that gets put in a drawer, maybe to used some day in the future.

This woman has no presence whatsoever. Why is she constantly being pushed front and center in all these promos and media pieces?

Is the iphone 12 the peak? Are we going to see the inevitable 'regression to the mean' in the coming years?

I no longer get excited for new product launches, don't have a burning desire to own the new tech immediately. Maybe I am just getting old and grumpy.
It’s called being jaded and spoiled.

According to MR posters, usb-c is the next coming revolution in tech and why didn't apple change the port on the iphone to usb-c. Given that type of hubris, why wouldn't Apple include a usb-c in the box?

Nope. You can't just rely on your personal experience. If you have a USB-A charger, you already have the cable. If you don't, you can either buy a Lightning to USB-A cable for $19 or a USB-C 20W charger for $19. Most customers would choose the 20W charger. Again, this accelerates the adoption.

Also, Tesla Model 3 recently switched from USB-A to USB-C at the request of many users. Over time, legacy car manufacturers will do the same.

Lastly, over the next several years, USB-A bricks and cables will either fail or not be powerful enough to do the job like powering all iPads of the future. Having that USB-C in the drawer will encourage and accelerate the transition.

My problem with battery life is that it could be so much better if they don't include novelty items like 3-lenses, a notch+FaceID that many don't want, and inferior wireless electric charging magnets.

This can be taken a step further. My xs max came with a 5w charger. To work as intended I would have had to shell out $$$ for a usb-c to lightning cable as well as a PD charger. My use case is to charge overnight and therefore speed of charging is not relevant to me. But you are correct in that if your use case is to charge as fast as possible 100% of the time, you need spend the extra $20 for the charger.

I also have the XS, and to me the included charger helped me with the same deal as you. I always charge overnight, so in that sense it's irrelevant. However, the new iPhone it means the new USB-C cable can't be used with that charger. So if my old cable breaks, there goes $ for a new charger.

So yeah... not happy as it always means I have the shell cash for compatibility future state vs ensuring compatibility with the already created ecosystem of chargers.

2 x should be pronounced 2 times. Really don’t like this new speech habit in tech. Hope nobody says things like that in math class.

Being from the UK I've noticed this a LOT recently.

Perhaps some lovely Americans can tell me if this is more an American thing?

I keep hearing people say " Two Times the performance "
In my mind I'm screaming: "You mean Twice the performance then? "

We have an English word for 2 times..... It's Twice.

My car is Twice as fast
I can east Twice as much pizza than you gave me.
I go to the gym Twice a week.

Why do so many presenters I watch online say Two Times ?

I may not be typical, but I have at least 10 lightning to USB A cables in the house, 6 of them Apple. Additionally I have a Qi charger. I also shelled out for a usb-c to lightning cable as my car has a usb-c PD port for CarPlay.

Is Apple trying to get rid of her? She is so not likable and not a screen persona. She is irritating in pretty much everything she does, from fake TV smile and enthusiasm to giving a speech.

Wow, Apple is going all out with the PR and marketing this time. I mean when's the last time we have Apple people going into podcasts? Is this part of the contract with Verizon, for Apple to help them market 5G?

Marketing folks and other execs have been spotted on The Talkshow Podcast with John Gruber for a few years already.

More USB-C cables - more opportunities to sell chargers as an accessory.
It's almost as if it was designed to nudge people into buying their charger.

"Congratulations on the choice of your new iPhone. You know we're not including the power adapter anymore, for environmental reasons. Of course we're still including a cable. Can be used with any standard USC-C charger. Cause it's the new standard that will be everywhere, eventually. So... do you already have a USB-C power adapter? No..? Would you like me to get one for you from the shelf? It's only $19."

The cable is so thin and lightweight that nobody will get concerned about the environment (plus, it's the same worldwide, so no localisation costs).

Congratulations, you are proofing that there’s always an angle to complain about ;)

No cable? Complaints certain.
Old cable? Complaints for sure.
New cable? How dare they!

I hope they leave everything out of the box next year so you can go cherry picking the accessories you want.
