Love it how paranoid people are.

That is absolutely not the case. It has been proven many times that the camera can be turned on while not having the light on. Also, anyone who knows a little bit how software and computers work, also knows there is no such thing as 100% privacy or encryption. One of the famous mathematical impossibilities is writing perfect software. Can't be done, which means some slight chance of hacking is always in the cards. You might also consider situations where the little green light is meaningless - take for instance when you're sleeping and the laptop is open for some reason or other.

Hacking into my webcam would be the most boring Truman Show ever. All you’d get is a live stream of me typing away, rubbing my temples in exasperation at what I just wrote, picking my nose, and smoking. The rest of the time the lid is closed. But if that’s what gets hackers off nowadays, they can go for it, I don’t mind

With Big Sur Signed System Volume, I would think that hacking the camera would not be possible even on pre-T1/T2 Mac computers. And isn't Apple removing kext as well.

I never understood people who want to cover the camera on their MacBook for "privacy" reasons and yet leave the camera on their phones (which they bring everywhere they go) uncovered. Like what's the logic there? Hackers and snoopers only exist on the Mac but not on phone and tablets?

Exposure on phone is much smaller in comparison since it's in pocket/purse when not actively in use. Out on the table the camera is facing up at the ceiling. Compared to laptop that's usually always propped open and has wider field of view.

It’s covered in some cases because some programs automatically will just start the camera and you don’t want it started. I’ve had that on some conference calls services, though it was a while ago, where they just started sharing my camera with no pause.

By directive of FBI, DHS and CIA they ask Apple to tell their sheeple not to cover their webcams because it would hinder their ability to spy on you. Cover your cameras, unless you like having pics of your chubby ass masturbating on their government servers. Save yourself the embarrassment, cover it up.

Wait so you can't close the lid with something inside it? So I can't close my MacBook on my iPhone to store it? 🤦‍♂️

Ever heard of sextortion? One of many reasons.

Read the bit where I said I’m not doing anything wrong. Who the hell is going to sextort me when I wouldn’t be in a position to have that happen to me in the first place.

Tell that to Snowden.

Oh yeah, it's Apple. They're not in the government's hip pocket. We can trust them.

🙄

I'm generally not happy about any company siphoning every bit of data they can. I include Apple in that, but the fact that Apple is much better than Google/MS is the main reason I'm in the Apple eco system. But it this case it's third parties and not Apple that concern me.

I prefer the glass of the pre-Retina MBPs. Surely with gorilla glass they could do a thinner version of that now. When I first got a rMBP I assumed the top layer was a very, very thin layer of glass, but it turned out not to be. It delaminated and I wasn't even made aware of their repair program. And during that time it did crack and I paid $825 for the repair (crazy but it made sense at the time versus buying new because of how it was specced and if I had gone third party would have voided the remaining AppleCare). The replacement display delaminated as well.

Then why don't you stream yourself 24/7 if you've got no issue with it? You'd probably get some revenue from people who just want to watch, and if you truly don't care, there's no downside and a potential upside.

Oh wait, you do care after all?

All these people that cover there cameras are streamers then are they? I don’t get what you’re saying or why you have issues with what I am saying.

I don’t use my bloody camera it’s never on therefore I don’t need to cover it up. I don’t go on dubious websites, I don’t go on chat rooms. I don’t download illegal ****. I don’t have intimate conversations with strangers. I have nothing to hide.
