I don't think anyone has to worry about bands being obsoleted.
The money-grabbing argument doesn't make sense. Apple has more money than Exxon, for crying out loud.
The "oh they obsolete everything else, just look at FireWire and the floppy drive" argument doesn't make any sense, either. There is no technological reason to change the strap connection -- no power requirements, no data throughput, no MagSafe (which I secretly hope never goes away completely)…
There's no reason to change the simplest, most secure, most adaptable, most user-friendly wristwatch strap connector I've ever seen. Go ahead, ask your watch nerd friend how easy it is to gouge a watch case with a springbar tool.
