The lack of silver aluminum is really making me consider stainless steel.. not sure if I want to drop an extra $300-$400 though.

Would SS hold better resale value in a few years compared to aluminum?

I will be going for the SS version again this year. I currently have 3 apple watches so I will be trading these in towards the cost after also upgrading my phone. I currently use;
Series 2 Ceramic Edition
Series 3 Aluminium silver (for work)
Series 5 SS Silver with blue leather strap

I really hoped for a bigger update.. At least a new CPU. Before the event took place I was going for a stainless steel or titanium, but since they presented the S7 with all that minor upgrades I’ll be going for the Al one. Just don’t know if I’ll get the midnight or green one.. midnight looks a little too blueish to me. It’s gonna be a hard decision as I want to preorder as soon as possible and therefore can’t wait until I see the colors in real life.

What use case do you have for a new CPU? What’s the current chip not capable of?

I’m in the same boat. I like the concept of sterling jewelry, and bought a few sterling bracelets, but silver just doesn’t look good on my skin tone, so I stick to rose and some yellow gold. Most of the time I think Apple‘s renders look better than the actual product. At this point the Starlight render isn’t remotely attractive to me, so I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like it in real life. The rose gold aluminum isn’t a perfect color, but it’s the closest I can get to something pleasing. If I had to choose a 7 I’d probably go for blue. So sorry to see Apple drop the rose gold, I wonder if they’ll come to regret it.
I went from a gold 5 to and blue 6 and really regret it. Was planning on switching to a gold 7 even though there’s nothing wrong with my watch because I miss the ‘prettiness’ of it. Now even considering getting the gold 6 before they’re switched out.

Coming from a S5 Al the advertised 20% faster S6 CPU inside the S7 will probably do the job for everything an Apple Watch can do.. I guess..

It’s just such an expensive device for what it is. The 400-500 bucks price tag for the Al is okay for me. But 700-800$£€ for just a different housing material and the sapphire crystal is a lot of money. I find it hard to justify paying 800€ instead of 500 for the same device. I mean the additional 300€ for Ti and sapphire vs Al and IonX is just ridiculous. And lots of tests showed that the Apple Watch sapphire isn’t as high-quality and scratch resistant as the sapphire glass on e.g. mechanical watches from Tissot, Seiko, etc.

To answer your question it is less my use case that I want a faster CPU for but rather that I want best value for my money if investing 300€ more in a device that can do the same for 500€ or even less when going for a S6 with descent discount.

My current S5 Al is my first Apple Watch. Because of the IonX glass and the scratches in it I really wanted the sapphire glas with my next Apple Watch. And that would totally be worth the extra 200-300€ for me if Apple would use a proper sapphire glas mixture resisting as much as the sapphire glas used by nearly all watch manufacturers. But with their softer and probably cheaper sapphire crystal I just can’t justify spending so much money in a watch with nearly no improvements over the last generation…

Another point is that I would love to get the space black SS with dlc they offered with S5 if I would go for a SS S7 but as we all know they discontinued the space black for whatever reason except you go for the Hermes edition…

No. Resale is terrible on the steel versions. Most second hand buyers don’t care about the materials. They just want a cheaper way to get an Apple Watch. As a proportion, you lose more money on steel and higher versions.

S7 Hermes 45mm SS.
I just saw the Hermes and yes!! Double tour… not a fan of the braided but I guess it’s to match the style of newer leather bracelets they have.

One I’m gonna get, most likely… still want to see other colors:

Yeah I understand the rest I’m kind of on the fence about buying steel but as much as I think it looks nicer I don’t think the price hike is worth it.
I’ve just seen a few people disappointed with the lack of new chip but the hardware is so mature now I don’t see any benefit. Even if it’s for longevity the series 3 is being sold in its 5th year so is going to get at least 6 years of OS updates.

Well, if I knew I’ll keep it for at least 3 years I’d just pay the bloody 800€ for the titanium S7. But with the S8 around the corner (due to the delayed S7 release probably less than 10 months away from the moment I’ll get my hands first on the S7) and if the rumors are true this time with some nice new features, I’ll probably crave for the S8 as well and can’t resist buying it. And we all know the resale value of the SS and Ti watches are far from good…

Speaking of mature hardware - my S5 today had a really hard time loading the previews of the watch faces in the watch face editor! It took like 10 seconds until I got the preview of the world time watch face. Then trying to configure the complications they took a few seconds to pop up as well.. I guess this is Apple slowing down my S5 with os8 to convince me buying that S7!

Hermes SBSS Series 7 for me, Series 8, Series 9, ……etc………..Hermes all the way, year after year, every year!!!! 🤣
Even with millions on my bank account I couldn’t justify this. It’s against common sense… at least for me… please don’t tell the Hermes thread what I just wrote 😅😅

The rumours of new features seem to be way off every year. This blood sugar monitoring seems to have been rumoured for at least 4 updates now. I got my 4 at launch and intend to keep the 7 for just as long.

I don't remember is the SS $300 more than aluminum? I have cellular on the AW so maybe it's only $200 more.

Do the higher than SS versions gain on resale vs. the SS? For example, I think SS resale after 1 year is like 30%, but perhaps with Ti it's 50% and for Hermes is also 50%. I think for aluminum it's at least 50%, but since I have a cellular version of the aluminum is 50% or maybe less.

I’ve typically gotten about $350 every time I’ve sold one of my steel Apple Watches. That wasn’t so bad when they were $500. Now that they’re $700, that’s about a 50% loss. I’ve sold 3 of them. I’ve seen some titanium series 6 models go for $450 this year. I’d say that you’re pretty unlikely to get more than 50% back on any of them. Dollar for dollar, a 50% loss on an $800 purchase is more than a 50% loss on a $300 purchase. That’s the kicker, I think.

I'm so glad I got the 6 in gold. It is my first AW. Even though it is more of a pink gold imo. Pink gold like my MacBook Air.

This year, I don't see anything in aluminum that I would buy. The Starlight color just doesn't really cut it for me. Have the prices on the 6 been reduced yet? If I were in your shoes, I'd get the 6 in gold, just for the "prettiness" of it. There are so many colored sport bands that go beautifully with the gold. In fact, I'm waiting on my Marigold and English Lavender shipment.

The gold aluminum 6’s are going for $329 at Amazon and Walmart, and I’m told Best Buy will price match. I checked the camelcamelcamel site and that‘s the lowest Amazon has ever sold the gold one for, so I don’t know if it will go any lower. Amazon says they’ll be “in stock soon”, which I‘m guessing means that Apple will be unloading their unsold 6’s to the authorized resellers like Amazon once the 7’s arrive. Just as an observation, I’d say that 90% or more of the women I see wearing an AW in my city have the gold aluminum. What was apple thinking? It’s true that rose gold may be considered passé by trend predictors, but a lot of women (and men) still like it. 🤔

And for the first time there’s a Nike sport band that I actually like, and plan to get to go with it. The Magic Ember looks pretty good on gold aluminum, I think: here’s a screenshot from Supertech USA‘s YouTube:

I definitely haven’t planned on upgrading my 6, but man I love the new stardust color - reminds me of that old barely gold they used to have before they messed it up with too much pink.

I figure I’ll just contemplate it for a bit since I can’t buy right now anyway, and try to find someone who “needs” my 6.

I wont tell them. i like the Hermes faces and i love the watch bands. The bands are what makes the watch, some of their designs are works of art. I sell my prior watch every year so it cuts my out of pocket. I just prefer them to the other models of the apple watch series.

I agree with you on the watch faces! I’d love to have those. They are just so much more elegant than the standard ones.. I always find it hard to choose a matching Watch face when wearing a more exclusive and chic outfit. Getting the Apple Watch beautiful enough to match those outfits like my classic King Seiko, Jaeger-LeCoultre and other timeless beautiful watches is hard. The Hermes edition with its faces and bands come closest to that look and feel but still I can’t justify paying that amount for a device that has such a short lifespan…

We already pay the Apple premium… If the Hermes Watch would come with a exclusive different design other than just plain digital watch faces, this would be more of a reason to consider it over the standard stainless Watch. Maybe they should offer exclusive one-time download codes for Hermes Watch faces included to the Hermes watch bands. That would be nice for people investing 300-500$/€ in a Hermes Band, so they could enjoy the Hermes Watch faces on their Ti/SS/Al watch. But as long as there are people willing to pay the astronomical Hermes price for just a few very nice watch faces, they won’t change anything.

I will get either Gold SS or Natural Ti. I currently have S5 in Gold SS.

My S5 Gold is getting tanned and has a tint of brown now. Hoping S7 Gold be more vibrant. I think it would help with Fengshui, too.:D

One time, an apple store rep told me once you go SS, you are likely to stick to SS…that might be coming true for me…(he had a silver SS with some apparent surface scratches.)

If Hermes comes up with Gold SS model, I would seriously consider it. I would like to show off the watch face to those who can pick it! Gold is warm and soothes my mind…
