After installing beta 5 I have noticed that my "Nike + Running" app crashes, or freezes when trying to start the workout from the watch. It will start on my iPhone, but was disappointed to see that I am not able to switch songs or check my current running time from the app on the watch. Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks mate! Im in UK too and as we have just got it, don't really want to lose it! lol

Same! I am now genuinely starting to begrudge shopping in those few shops that don't take contactless here in the UK.

We are all as sad as each other on this forum thats why it's great.

-I wish they'd tweak the Workout screen a little more, I'd prefer to have the workout time, distance, and heart rate on the same screen, but there isn't a way to configure it this way.

Actually, yes there is.

Change the workout app settings to show goal values instead of the circle, then set a distance goal. Distance will appear at the center metric.

Tap the clock during a workout to change that to elapsed time (other option is pace, btw).

Finally, scroll to heart rate on the bottom metric.

Bam! All three metrics.

That's cool! But the only problem is I only use an open goal when working out. :-/

When using the open goal, it doesn't make sense that the top line can be set to elapsed time when the middle already shows elapsed time. Apple should get rid of that redundancy.

Ideally, I'd like the top two lines to be tappable and set to any of the data points that are available in the bottom line.

By any chance is there a change in how long it takes to silence an alarm (well, for me the tapping since I have sound off) or a user option to set a preference? Right now it takes 3 seconds. I'd like it much shorter. Ideally, for my needs, instant - just as fast as the screen turns off when you cover it with your hand.

Is there a reason when I look at my glances, it tells me on the watch to "Unlock iPhone to view" even though the iPhone is unlocked? Is this a sign of app incompatibility?

Anyone else having problems with the new wake on tap setting for 70 seconds, I've got it to change through the app on my iPhone but it won't change when selecting it on the watch, also the screen still stays active for the standard 15 seconds when the option is selected.

Didn't work for me until I un-paired and re-paired.
And it is only on tap -- the wrist-raise timeout is the same as before.

I had the same problem here, unpair then re-pair to fix it.

New in Beta 5, if you send a text message using Siri it will now automatically send when Siri is dismissed (deliberately or after time passes) rather than having to tap "Send". This now makes it possible to text people without needing a free hand (via "Hey Siri")

New to the Watch, wife and I have had one for a couple of days. So we're running WatchOS 1 at the moment.

Just wanted to point out that sending messages, even in version 1, can be done entirely hands free. Tapping send is not a necessity. After dictating the message to Siri and being presented with the screen to send it, just tell Siri to send it.

"Hey Siri, send a message to my wife saying Be home in an hour."
<screen displayed with message and Send button, etc>
"Hey Siri, send it."

Not having to explicitly send the message in the WatchOS beta is great so long as the option to send immediately hands-free is still present. If the timeout is too long, the context of the message might be lost on the receiver side (depending on the pace of the conversation anyway).

Turning on airplane mode in the phone, also turns it on in the watch. However, turning off airplane mode on phone, leaves airplane mode on, on the watch

That works as intended. How should the watch know, that you end airplane mode if all of their connections to the iPhone were disabled?

I never use "mirror my iPhone" for this option. It's disabled by default.

You can also set Siri to automatically send your dictation either as text or a voice clip, and bypass that screen completely.

So beta 5 had been out for a week now, how is it holding up?
What's battery life like? Do all the apps work? Are there many reboots? Is it stable enough for everyday use?

It's working very well. I've had almost zero issues apart from a little lag when replying to messages. No reboots. Battery life is great. Glad I put it on,,,but the new features are really not something I would use very often. The speed improvements are good enough reason to install. GM should be even better hopefully. Hope that helps u decide. I did unpair and repair after installation and restored from a 1.01 backup. All apps work as intended.

Why can't the Nightstand Mode always be on? I hope this changes in the final build.

It's on charge so I don't see an issue...

I dont think thats only a question of battery life: OLED panels are losing brightness with every second of usage. So setting up the nightstand mode 'always on' will cause 'shadows' on your watch screen in the medium term.

Ah. Okay. Makes sense. Just a tad annoying I have to tap the display to view it.

I find that you don't even need to tap the display as such - a slight movement of the Watch and the display comes on.

When I want to view it I just tap/lightly nudge my bedside cabinet and I get the time. I think it's a fair compromise.

How long does the Nightstand display stay on?

It seems to be about 8-10 seconds or less. Its not very long. The latest beta has a setting for longer display on time though I do not have that activated at the moment. The shorter time has been enough for me.

Okay, I'll try that tonight. Thanks.
