Yeah, instead we really should be listening to what Hustler1337 has to say. Thanks, anonymous internet forum poster!

I think i'm qualified to make my own mind up as to what I like, just like you and everyone else are entitled to their own opinion on what looks nice. I'm just saying that the Apple Watch unit itself looks quite ugly and chunky in my own opinion. I don't need a fashion expert to make my own opinion.

Despite the naysayers this watch will probably sell like hotcakes. It's not perfect, a little bulky, but it looks to be an amazing achievement. Overall I think it looks pretty hot, customized as I would like it. There are so many options (48 for the case/size/band) that there is probably something for everyone here.

Look, people spend thousands of dollars for high end watches which have zero functionality compared to this watch (or other smartwatches). $349 isn't cheap but it's not a lot of money in the context of quality watches. Even the gold watch, if less that $1000, will represent value to many watch collectors, who spend thousands at a time for watches.

Something for everyone, from the average consumer, to athletes, to fashionistas, to collectors. Like a lot of Apple products, people often disapprove but once they see it in the wild or at an Apple Store, it seems awesome. I think that will happen here.

Thank you, someone who actually gets it.

A very good point and one of the big reasons why the Apple Watch won't threaten the luxury watch market. And since it's an electronic piece requiring an iPhone, it's not meant to be a luxurious investment to be passed down from one generation to another.

The traditional luxury watches have that sense of value.

I'm not knocking the Apple Watch but think it's a nice product they're offering. I probably won't go for it right away and want to wait to see how it develops once it comes out.

But as an athletic fencer myself, it would be handy to monitor my physical activity and heart rate. Especially for health reasons and track my cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

The idea is having a high end smart watch that is customizable which is the intention here. I don't think Jony meant ill will towards the Swiss regarding them being in trouble and that it was probably a professional "rub" on them in a light manner. I'm sure he views the Swiss designers with high regard.
The other thing people need to keep in mind (not singling you out at all), Modern luxury watches range from $2,000 - $7,000 (and beyond) these days. The Apple watch doesn't really play in that market given what we know about pricing. The Gold versions, if priced $1,000 or Above may be pushing it though, just have to wait and see what Apple markets that to.

My existing watch was $360 so this is right inline for my (admittedly low) budget for a good watch.

Not to mention aside from design alone this thing has KILLER functionary all backed by Apple. Day 1 purchase for me.

I just don't get it. Never have really. The only possible use for a smart watch is augmented reality UI control...there it has some potential. But, Apple is still no where to be seen on the AR front. I was really hoping the iWatch was the next big thing with Apple's take on Google Glass AR. AR is THE next big thing and only a couple of years out until we're all seeing life through augmented heads up display. Apple has to be working on this, and I just assumed they wouldn't waste time on a regular watch...but here it is.

All I'm saying is that if Apple can make this a fad, they really can market anything. I don't see it selling at all, turning into one of the biggest flops ever.

I really like it from what I can see and for the people that say it's ugly on here. Tell us your opinion when you actually see/touch it in person.

What he said!

Are you sure? The Apple Watch "Sports" has no sapphire glass and no stainless steel tho. that's probably where the "from" upwards is coming from

The apple watch and the apple edition are both sapphire. The sport is glass

I'm wearing a $3,000 Tag watch currently because I love the quality and the look of the watch. It's 100% mechanical, which means a $10 Timex watch keeps time more accurately... but that's not why I wear it.

I usually wear my Pebble on the weekdays (at work) and my Tag on the weekends. Being able to see a ton of info without whipping my phone out in a meeting etc is priceless.

If Apple can make an experience better then the Pebble AND it looks classier then I am sold.

The only question I have is what is the release cycle/price points... I buy a new iPhone every year and a new Mac every 2-3 years. Is the Apple Watch designed to be something I replace every year with a new model or keep for 5 years? Obviously it will eventually be thinner, and have more features, but if the mid range model with a metal band is $500+, thats going to be a bit of a pain to try to swap out every year or two.

How do you stick a HUD on a watch?

And Google Glass is a joke.

"not as cool as a mechanical watch, to real people."

That says it all right there. Very cool piece of technology but there are still very few people ready to WEAR technology.

There were plenty of people who liked to wear digital watches before the rise of cell phones.

Close but no cigar. The design is a little too tech geek for my taste.

Also, I will not be buying until battery life is at least 2 days. Who wants to constantly charge an iPhone, iPad, and now an Apple Watch, too?? I'm running out of outlets. No thanks.

Two things that would stop me from buying a smart watch

1) No waterproof (I surf a lot)

2) The apps become too stressful for your current watch (iphone) to handle within 2 years and you would be buying a whole new watch.

I usually keep a watch for about 10+ years and the batteries almost make that distance too lol.

Couldn't you just have a watch for surfing and an Apple watch for the other 99% of your life?

Yahoo Finance: Apple should admit at least two flaws

Here's a good article on yahoo finance. In addition, Apple did not use "far field" induction for charging. Far Field would allow there to be no contact between the watch and the charging unit.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/cant-just-admit-apple-watch-170750775.html

PARTIAL QUOTE:

But the device has two obvious flaws that people aren't really saying much about.

The watch works only if you're carrying an iPhone at the same time. It isn't an independent gadget. It needs to be tethered to a nearby iPhone via Bluetooth if you want it to do its stuff.

The watch's battery doesn't last all day. It must be charged anew each night, Apple says. That means you can't sleep with it on your wrist, like, you know, a normal watch. (Even Apple is unhappy with it, we hear.)

To be honest, reading these fashion writer's reviews about the watch is a breath of fresh air.

Because they are free from the endless cynicism and aimless pedantry that engulfs the tech press whenever Apple releases a new product.

And to me, I don't think a lot of that cynicism reflects what they really want to say in their opinion pieces. I feel as though some are pressured into saying such things because of the "spewing bile" (according to Stephen Fry) that comes from commenters and social media.

and you really think Apple is gonna sell the sapphire glass, stainless steel one for $349? pretty obvious to me that this is the starting price of the sports edition. Apple is charging 100€ for 32GB GB of Flash so i have no doubt in believing that sapphire & stainless material is gonna add at least another 100+ $
