so, do you have any proof for this hypothesis of yours? or do you just make it up as you go along?

fact: as apple has stated in the past, most of the components industry is based in china. thats where the parts are, so thats where they are.

It was a question, not a statement!

You kidding right? Apple chooses the most appropriate components sourced usually from China, Korea , Japan etc.

Since the Japanese component is fine, who choose the Chinese supplier?

They chose to ship faulty Watches and spin the delays as if it were a good thing.

Thanks, Tim and Angela.

They did not choose to ship watches with faulty parts. If they did, they'd have met their shipment targets and gotten lots of watches delivered Day 1. Instead, they pushed out delivery windows. At the same time, they probably did get good demand, albeit not as much as they would have had if they had it available in stores (since they are missing out on impulse buys).

I wonder if people will tweak out wondering if you can tell if your watch tactic engine was made in Japan or China?

I would.

Japan has outsourced so much manufacturing to China, in the last 20 years, but I would take a part/assembly made in Japan over almost any country... Sans Germany/Switzerland. However, Chinese quality is so much better than Indian quality. The day they source parts there, is the day we all need to make this face # and walk away.

It's not uncommon to have multiple suppliers for the same part. Apple has used Toshiba and Samsung for NAND, and LG, Samsung, and Sharp for displays for the same products in the past, for instance. Maybe the Chinese supplier had a good record otherwise.

Can any of you read? The reason your watches haven't shipped yet is because Apple decided to ship you a working unit instead of a defective one (at least, without a defective Taptic Engine part).

+ infinity

Time for MRs to put some defective threads aka Whaaaambulance threads in AWhaambulance :D sub-forum out into the Wasteland.

This is what I appreciate about Apple. They refuse to sell sub-standard stuff.

Not even close to true. There are trolls and then there are people that have had Hellish nightmares with Apple. Some people have to form class action lawsuits against them to fix the problems they know exist. They are not #1 with customer service/satisfaction to those customers.

Lots of people have complained that they can barely feel the taps, and sometimes, not at all.

I ordered 4 minutes in and shipping was estimated at 4-6 weeks. That is completely outside the norm, and I knew it had nothing to do with the Watch being more popular than they anticipated.

Apple missed the launch date and didn't want to admit it.

They had a choice to make - screw up the launch by delaying the whole thing, or just delay shipments (and ship faulty Watches) and spin it like the Watch is HUGELY IN DEMAND!!!

They chose to ship faulty Watches and spin the delays as if it were a good thing.

Thanks, Tim and Angela.

Stop shipping faulty software and stop shipping faulty hardware.

I don't know when I'll get mine, but if I can sell it for a profit, I will. And maybe get one when we know the issues are fixed.

That's the problem I face , the taps feel very weak, but that could be how it's suppose to be and a Japanese unit, or it could be the defective unit. So if there is an issue, how do we find out ? Will apple admint it and inform us?

At least I hope everyone getting thier units in the future are defect free.

Apparently all of the link bracelet watches were designated for production with the faulty taptic engines.

Or so Apple (through surrogates) would have you believe.

Very aware of this, I always research the product before buying and cross my fingers that I get the better one. The problem is that there are usually two variants, and one is better than the other , be it display, ssd etc, you would have seen this.

Though you cannot quantify that . Defect rates are not made public as far as I am aware.

Apple has had its share of recalls.

I know on displays they have higher standards on dead pixels. I don't have a source besides my experience. If I remember most are 3 or more and apple is 1 or 2.

Guess what they used to say about Japan 50 years ago?

"They," meaning Big Auto, who would say anything to protect their U.S.-based market share. And U.S. cars absolutely sucked. Japanese cars kicked their ass with rock-solid Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and Lexus.

I Ordered at 12:06 42mm SS BSB on 4/10 and my shipping status changed from processing to preparing for shipment this morning and my credit card was charged this am as well.

My confirmation was received at 2:16 CST for the same watch and I have yet to receive any updates, still "processing". No EOD or charge. Still shows 13MAY-27MAY.
I'll manage to live another day.....maybe.

Well if you consider that Apple anticipated that the SG BSB was going to be the most popular model you would expect them to ramp up production early.

If those :apple: watches then suffer from taptic engine fault and need to be scrapped that would explain the shortage.

Yup, this is what makes the most sense.

They didn't ship faulty Watches?

<<I’ve also heard from at least one DF reader whose Apple Watch Sport had a non-functioning taptic engine (he got it replaced at his local Apple Store). So some of these have made it out of the factories and into the wild. >>

I see they shipped faulty Watches.

It shouldn't feel weak. I'd open a ticket with Apple.

So how does this explain the fact that some bands are also not shipping until June? Sounds more like apple just trying to limit supply to make them more in demand. And I say that as someone that did get my watch on the 24th.

All good here

I have a week 13 watch. No issues here. And if the Taptic engine does break, I'm not worried. Apple will replace it.

"Apple told some suppliers of other Watch parts to slow production until June"

That's a quote from every article I've read on the matter....I like being optimistic just as much as the next guy but it sure sounds like a "now" kind of issue...
