So why are the bands delayed? If they were available in store I would have bought at least 2 more by now. Something weird about this whole rollout.

They didn't ship faulty Watches?

<<I’ve also heard from at least one DF reader whose Apple Watch Sport had a non-functioning taptic engine (he got it replaced at his local Apple Store). So some of these have made it out of the factories and into the wild. >>

Not intentionally. Did some faulty watches go out before they figured out the problem? That happens sometimes.

I have always believed China is know for quantity and Japan for quality. So this helps explain the backlog. Well it's probably likely some of the watches that used the engine made by the other company will eventually break down but no worries my friends Apple will just replace your watch with one made by the supplier in Japan or elsewhere. This is one of the reasons why Apple doesn't like to mass produce stuff, this way if there are issues it's much easier to correct and the best way to avoid upset customers. Although a lot of us are not thrilled with the fact that we still haven't received our watches that we ordered minutes after launch.

They may have told the other suppliers to hold off until they get watch production in balance. They don't want to be carrying lots of excess inventory, though I agree it would be nice if they made some available for extra band sales.

So how does this explain the fact that some bands are also not shipping until June? Sounds more like apple just trying to limit supply to make them more in demand. And I say that as someone that did get my watch on the 24th.

They aren't artificially limiting supply to make it appear more in demand. They are losing impulse buys the longer it gets delayed. More likely what they are doing is waiting for watch production to ramp back up before receiving more bands. They don't want them sitting in a warehouse for weeks at a time.

Macrumors you're the bomb, but please stop telling people they may get their watches ahead of schedule. You're making a bad problem worse.

This is so dumb. People can't buy something that doesn't exist. Most people aren't going to look at 4-6 week delay and say "ooh I have to have this now". What will happen is Apple will lose impulse buyers who would buy it if it was available to ship now. And these impulse buyers may just buy something else since the Watch isn't available.

sorry but no matter how many times you say it, there were no antenna issues -- watch the apple press conference where Jobs released the stats on dropped calls: non-issue. the so-called death-grip was not a problem in the wild, and could be done to other internal antenna phones too. all in the video.

the real proof? they continued to sell that exact same model (iPhone 4) for years, w/o changing or recalling it. no lawsuits.

next.

Of course there were no issues. That's why they gave away free bumpers and changed the antenna design in the next phone.

Let it go, seriously man, there are more important things. You have made your opinion on the matter of Apple's released product quality known. Thank you for the input, we get it.

I must have missed that in TOS.

what iPad issues? a few people complaining about color gamut does not an issue make.

Of course! All Apple issues are non issues. I forgot.

So this is breaking news on CNBC. Are you kidding me?!?

It's the headline on Drudge right now. "DEFECT FOUND IN APPLE WATCH"

Obama did ask the TV news to stop talking about the rioters burn down places. So I guess this counts.

This is not headline news unless it's an Apple news site. No one says that Defective parts made it to the customer. Apple found it during QC and rejected them.

OK this makes me embarrassed to be from the USA. With all the crap going on on our country and the world today and THIS is breaking news?

Probably been said a dozen times already, but kudos to Apple for making quality a priority.

This could be bad if all the general public remembers is the word defect associated with Apple Watch.

And Matt Drudge is going to make sure that happens.

WSJ updated their story:

Apple doesn’t plan a recall, because there’s no indication that Apple shipped any watches with the defective part to customers.

John Gruber had a defective one and says a Daring Fireball reader (whom he trusts) also had theirs replaced. So it appears some did slip out.

Please Tim and Angela, figure this out and get me a watch. And definetly before you get my wife's watch to her. I would never live that down.

Ordered one for my wife a few minutes after mine (38mm SS Milanese) and she got hers Monday. Where's mine (42mm SS LB), you may ask? Still sitting at 4-6 weeks.

Nobodody but apple knows anything about their supply or manufacturing chain. It's new and complex hardware. Things take time. The world is a hoot

Can someone elaborate more specifically, but more importantly in basic terms, how the linear actuator works? I love the way it feels on my wrist and I've always been one to be curious on how things work
