I am the tech person in the family. I do all the tech testing and buying. If I can't, just me, buy two, then two won't get purchased. That's just how it works. I suspect a lot of families work this way.

The scalping reasoning is debunked. The limited quantity blah is fine, but they specifically marketed the special two person features. And then made it hard to buy two at a time. Doesn't make sense.

So much this. I am going to be feeling forever alone, unable to send my heartbeat to my girlfriend because I couldn't buy two, lol.

I know she wants one and would gladly wear one. Sure, she can buy one at midnight, but I doubt she will care enough to be up at midnight and will just buy it when convenient. That's just how it works for tech - I need to be the one to get it for us. Perhaps she is more easy going and normal about it. But I'm on this site reading rumors ready to buy now.

Maybe Apple's planning a buy one get one free deal at launch?

Technically, you're still only buying one, and the daft pricing would all make sense then.

Sounds like you wanted Apple to make a fitness band/watch.

Except nothing I mentioned has anything to do with a fitness band. In fact, they even look similar (a square face on a band), except Sony's will actually look like a watch before it is raised instead of a black square. Apple is way behind this time.

Wait. Let me get this straight. Tim Cook's political cronies are fighting voter ID laws in every state that has them but he's going to demand you have a government-issued ID to buy one of his stupid watches.

That's correct. In light of the fact that the ability to have a voice in one's own governance by voting is a fundamental human right, while the ability to purchase expensive electronic gadgets is not, it's a little hard to see why the contrast you point out is a problem.

I think one should be sufficient for most customers. You can always buy more later.

I'm looking at the stainless steel 42 mm in space grey with stainless steel space grey link bracelet

I'm soooo tempted by that model, but not sure I can justify the price differential between the aluminum in space gray. Wish it was an option to get the stainless steel space gray with sport band like you can with the basic stainless :( Also, I kind of want to "dip my toe" in the Apple Watch "pool" as I'm curious what the upgrade cycle frequency is going to look like as 2nd gen :apple: products tend to address a host of issues and I'd hate to spend bank on the first gen only to be drooling over the second.

Doesn't this say one reservation per person and then say your item(s)? Where does it say you can only buy one watch?

The wording they use is fairly clear that one reservation equals one watch:

"Apple was originally planning to allow two reservations per customer as recently as March, according to sources, but is now allowing one per customer as stock is expected to be limited.

The limit does not apply to online pre-orders that will be shipped to home beginning April 24, although it is possible that Apple will also restrict online orders to one or two Apple Watch models per customer as it has done for Personal Pickup with the iPhone, iPad and other products in the past."

Send me $50 via Paypal and you can have my reservation.

Apparently Apple feels the need to take a page from Harley-Davidson's BS "artificial scarcity" model of sales and marketing. I can only assume they understand the mentality of their target demographic.
HD's "artificial scarcity" model? LOL WUT? Every time I walk into a dealer I can barley get out without agreeing to buy a new bike off the floor. Unlike back "in the day" where they were genuinely constrained (don't like it? The guy standing behind you will take your place) they seem to have show rooms filled with bikes. Even though they make most of their money on merchandising the moco shield, IMO.

Back on topic, here's to hoping for allowing two online orders. Would just be much simpler that way than to have to set one up separately under my wife's Apple ID and CC.

I share your dilemma. I was all set for the Stainless Steel with a leather band. But what if gen 2 is really great? Then maybe I should just go with the sport edition watch. I like the look of the sport silver aluminum and wish I could get a black band with it. White, green, pink, and blue are not my preferences. I will probably be "that guy" and eventually get a leather band for my sport watch, just not sure which of the two sport models will look better with one.

Also, the Apple Watch has so many great two-person features, I kinda wish I had more friends getting one. My gf will likely not buy one unless I do it for her (and I know she will love it and thank me). If that's the case, then I should definitely buy two sports as I cannot afford two stainless steel right now (as much as she would love it).

Decisions, decisions. Kudos to those who are all set to buy his and her stainless steel models! :)

Now this pisses me off! I was going to buy two stainless steel models and surprise my fiancée with one as a wedding gift. Now I'll need to wake her up at 12:am and have her purchase it (with the money I give her of course) This is so stupid.

It only applies to reservation in store pick up. You can still order two online and have it delivered to you.

Everything on Sony's watch page says "fitness tracker." Ergo, I assumed this was what you wanted.

The noticdable similarities between the Sony watch and Apple Watch Sport is that they are square, have rubber bands, and are worn on the wrist. They don't look much alike.

Buy for what you want/need today. Gen 2 may never arrive -or- you may not make it to the date Gen 2 shows up. A million things can happen tomorrow that will negate any future purchasing decisions. These aren't investments or priceless heirlooms. So long as you are not going to mortgage the family farm or wipe out your retirement savings, buy what you want today. Use it, enjoy it, wear it out. Decide what you'll do about any future purchases when that time arrives. My gosh -shudder- it might not even be an Apple product at that point.

This is Angela Ahrendts' novel idea to artificially restrict supply to spur demand.

Apple Watch Reservations Will Be Limited to One Per Customer

Did you not want home delivery?

I'll be at work.... I was hoping to swing by the Apple Store on my way home.
Also, there seems to not be a 100% clear answer to the question "does it arrive on the 24th or ship on the 24th". I wish I knew 100%

If it is like any other Apple product, it ARRIVES on the 24th. The first day that you can walk into the store and buy one is the day they are delivered to home addresses.

EDIT: Also, you get a tracking number in email. Once you have that, you can re-direct the delivery to a FEDEX/UPS store front where you can drive by and pick up (provided you have correct ID). I've done this a few times and it is very convenient for costly purchases that I don't want sitting out on the front stoop.

Waiting for Apple watch

I'm an avid Apple enthusiast. I have multiple Apple products but I'm struggling to be excited about the Apple watch. Part of it is that the watch is fashionable but not so highly functional that it would make me use it more than I use my iPhone. The other portion is the price for entry is the price of an iPad. Add to that I haven't worn a watch in 20 years (always had phone for time and information).

One area that already concerns me about the watch is monitoring notifications and turning them all off. I couldn't imagine having it buzzing me or popping up on the screen with every text, email, phone call, heart beat (haha), tweet, or picture. I could see this as extremely distracting and would turn off some of the highest selling features of the watch. Being pinged all the time would make me frantic and I wouldn't accomplish much. haha

The only function I would truly see value is in the health stuff but it is under whelming in that arena.

No one is going to buy these watches. There will be plenty of stock at Apple stores.

I'm guessing Apple has a better idea of how much supply they have vs. what demand will be than you do. If they're restricting preorders to one device per person, it means they expect to run out.

That doesn't make any sense. In a typical Apple launch, scalpers restrict supply by buying up all the launch day stock. This new strategy will allow more actual buyers to get their hands on the watch (or the watch on their hands, rather).

Considering all Apple products can be sold at a good price the next year, the price for the whole year would be about $150-175 if you buy the Apple watch, if you can't swing that, then your probably a fringe buyer for this product anyway.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to filter out notifications going to the watch to just the people you really want to know about.

Its like all other Apple product. Get it on the 24th. If you thought you could just waltz in on the first day and buy a watch, you weren't paying attention to all the other Apple product launches.

The more I think about it, the more this 1 per customer thing bothers me. It seems that a watch is THE ideal "his and her" gift or purchase.

I'm not a big watch person, but when I think of his and her's anything, it's a watch! It shouldn't be more difficult to buy two of these than two iPads on launch.

Now they made it extremely inconvenient to do so, and at the same time eerily intrusive by requiring my ID for my one. Yikes! Yes, I know Apple isn't forcing me to buy anything. I just want to easily buy a couple at the store!

EDIT: In fairness, I originally hoped to buy a 38mm and 42mm watch, and returning the one I didn't want. This helps fight that. But in the end, I decided I wanted the 42 for myself and my gf wanted the 38.

If you ran a watch business do you really want a good number of people buying both sizes only to have a huge return rate on the size they don't want? Most watch shops don't even allow returns. This is a much better alternative than Apple saying "all purchases are final" which is technically still possible before preorders go live.
The iPhone 6 is probably the reason for this change. I wonder how many people swapped between the 6 and 6 plus multiple times. The iPhone 6 plus was in huge demand for weeks but I wouldn't be surprised if 4 to 8% were returned due to size. That's money and customer satisfaction out the window.
There are so many scalpers and consumers that abuse the return system it ultimately hurts the person that has a legitimate reason to do so.
