Don't get me wrong, I love my Watch, but in no way does it even come close to replacing my phone. There's zero web browsing capability (even if there was, how awful would that be?), replying to text messages is a pain, most of the apps that people use daily are a total no-go. What it does, it does very well, but you can't expect a 42mm screen to be a competent replacement for a phone.

That's a good point. It'd never be good for web browsing, or reading, or... a lot of things.

What I was thinking was that maybe they eventually have it where maybe you can make phone calls right on it, do siri things and all of the other stuff the Apple Watch can do at present. Then push everyone to iPad or iPad-like devices for the browsable stuff.

No good until it's it's own device, plus FaceTime.
What ever happened to the FuelBand team hired away from Nike & their designs ...?
The Apple Watch as is looks blah.

Bluetooth 4.2??? Really Apple? Maybe they don't care about range since some versions have cellular. Seems weird to not use the latest Bluetooth with vastly improved range and connectivity. Makes me iffy on getting my first Apple watch. Internal debate to continue. lol

Not sure I am upgrading my AW2 to AW3. LTE is not a big deal for me. I have no desire to pay an extra $10p/m. Sure the faster processor is always welcome but even if I jump into the AW3 without LTE, doesn't seem that important. We AW2 owners should see and improvement anyway with Watch OS4. Only if I can sell my AW2 very well, I might consider paying for the upgrade.

Just my opinion--this is the first wearables device that has reached the purchase-and-keep tipping point for me. I will buy it, and use it day-to-day. I am not hugely into wearing watches (I have a couple of very nice pieces that are more jewelry than anything else, and only wear them when in rare situations), so this is a big step for me. I tried out the original and Series 2, but just did not feel like I would use them enough.

I am already in the Apple ecosystem. I am one that *really* wants cellular connection. I do not like wearing my phone in the gym or on a run, and I like Apple Music enough to keep up the subscription. Some of the possibilities with Stanford and heart and glucose monitoring are really interesting. Near enough $500 for a wearables device that I'll probably want to upgrade in two years seems like a lot . . . and it may be in absolute value terms. But roughly $20/month does not seem so bad, and that assumes the value goes to zero of that period of time.

Of course I have accepted that Apple is going to **** me in the wallet but good late Dec/early Jan with the iMac Pro. So I come to the Watch from that perspective, too.

You do realize you will get only get 1hr of talk time on LTE, hardly a iPhone replacement

So the watch has a SIM slot? Another mobile contract. 3 mobile contracts. Watch, phone, iPad. Ouch.

Or is this some native Apple LTE available globally? Piggy-backs on other carriers? hehe in my dreams.

Ackkk! Just checked. Still requires an iPhone. Hoped it was capable of being a stand alone device.

Me too, brother. I’m ready to ditch smartphones altogether. Unfortunately, it appears that neither Apple nor the service providers are ready to disrupt their gravy trains. After all, One should be able to perform the initial setup with an iMac just as well. If not, why can’t the service provider perform it?

Ditto. I actually want a mobile phone that I can wear rather than carry in my pocket. It’s preferable that it has limited distractions. I’ve decided I no longer want to be another phone zombie when I’m socializing, wandering, or bored.

I'll be interested to see if the Watch can handle swapping SIM cards on the phone. I travel OS about 50% of the time and swap SIM cards in my iPhone. From what I've read so far it seems I'd need a separate watch plan in each country.

I'd say it's a reasonable bet that your watch will include the same plan as your phone. So if you add international data to your phone for the trip your watch will have the benefit.

God I hate The Verge. LTE on the Watch is killer. Apple Music over LTE on Watch is killer. Always available Siri is killer. Constantly being data-connected is killer.

But yeah, if your imagination literally stretches to taking phone calls on the Watch, what is the point?
And what's with the skepticism on the battery life claim? I assume they build in some cushion so they don't get crushed if it doesn't meet it.

Where is Gold Edition apple Watch 3? My $20k Gold Apple Edition Watch Series 1 is getting long in tooth. Anyone know trade in value? I NEED one of those cool red dots on my Gold Watch like NOW!

So if I get the LTE model... can I ditch LTE after a few months if I don't use it or want it?

Yes. Just reach into your phone, open the innards, extract the LTE chip, glue everything back together, and presto-chango, no LTE! You'll still be stuck with the red dot, though.

I have gone through the article and this thread and other than forum members complaining about $10/month data access charges, I have seen no evidence of this. Does anyone have carrie proof of the watch being a $10 charge?
I agree.

I've not seen anything actually official yet of what the pricing is. $10 a month seems a little steep, so I feel $5 a month would be more appropriate. Yet knowing carriers it will prob be 10 lol. I've wanted LTE connectivity on my watch to use it surfing. Would make the ultimate surf watch.

Thank goodness there is a GIANT BRIGHT RED CIRCLE on the new Watch so I NEVER FORGET I HAVE THE LTE VERSION. /s

I was like WTF is that red dot, thinking it was just on the new grey ceramic, until I saw all the LTE versions have it.
This basically means I am not buying, unless it can be changed. An amazing decision by Apple which kills any interest I have in this [and I was interested].

The biggest question is: can it get any bigger or uglier on the wrist?

apple_watch_3_screen-800x533.jpg

Well that depends how big your wrists are. I have the larger one, and it is a bit too small.

In my opinion, it was the best designed watch out there, period. Not anymore though with the fugly red dot.
