I skipped S6 because I wasn't sold on the Blood Oxygen feature. Think I will keep my S4 another year and see what S8 has to add in terms of features.

I like the look of this better than the leaked renders. I will wait another year or two for a better battery and/or more sensors. This is very nice, though and if I didn’t already have the 6, I’d definitely be interested in it.

"My Stainless Steel black link bracelet that has been on 7 generations of Apple Watch will live on at least one more year."

Me too!!!

I'm happy about that but only wear it for wedding and such now.

Really there’s no compelling reason to update the watch yearly IMO. I kept my 0 until software updates stopped. I plan to keep my current until the same. Then it feels like an update. Yearly is just incremental usually.

But I’m frugal with all my Apple purchases. Until it significantly changes my use of it I see no reason to upgrade any device.
Yep. I went 0, 4, then 5. 4 to 5 was an anomaly for me, but the AOD was, and still is the single biggest upgrade the watch has had in my mind.

how exactly is the green size measured? supposedly 20% larger display but going from 0/44 to 41/45? can someone illustrate?

Percentage increases of screen sizes are generally the area, which is goes up considerably faster than the side or diagonal dimensions (a screen twice as wide and twice as high is 400% the area).

The 41 and 45 are the vertical dimensions of the watch. It's only a small increase, but the screen also takes up much more of the face of the watch.

Just you wait, next year they’ll boost the screen size by another millimeter and we’ll be back to where we started with 42mm bands. ;)

What a disaster that will be. This band is for the 42mm which is a new big small watch not the 42mm which is an old small big watch!

I see no compelling reason to upgrade from my series 6, if all that is new is a slightly larger screen. I will gladly wait for next year.

I’ll sell my AW6 and get this. My out-of-pocket expense won’t be more than a couple hundred bucks plus I get to enjoy that larger screen for a full year. This is why it’s nice that Apple products hold on to their value as well as they do. Makes upgrading that much easier.
You’re BOTh forgetting faster charging times on the S7, which maybe more significant than the charging time on the S6 is to all previous models which I’m happy about with my S6.

USB-C cable may have something to do with it vs the charging puck but I’ll probably won’t bother getting one to test first hand.

The side by side on the first post the black bezel looks tiny on the 7. However during the keynote today it’s looks rather less impressive.

I jumped from an S4 Nike+ to an S6 Nike+ both were 45mm and it feels like the S6 was smaller in screen size vs the S4.

I’m curious if the S7 will feel larger than the S5/S6?

I have a hope the S8 will offer SS and Hermes models in distinct 47/48:52mm models for larger screens and significant battery improvements.

Why no new CPU’s … this seems worse than the S4 when they replaced the S3 with the S4 chip and resold it adding great value.

something tells me a LOT of the R&D went into software for the iPhones and majorly into the upcoming MBP’s!!

The one thing that has forever irked me is that the only way to get a stainless steel watch is to pay the big bucks for the cellular version. I'll never pay the telecom companies $120/year for the privilege of making maybe 10-20 calls for those rare cases when my phone is depleted and the watch is all I have available. Please let me have stainless steel WITHOUT the cellular option.

you are correct the watches have only moved 1mm in case size from 40/44 to 41/45, however at the same time they reduced the width of the bezels by 40%. so between the expanded case size (by 1mm) and the screen taking more of the front surface (due to the smaller bezels) they got to 20% increase in screen size with only a small increase in size of the watch.

I just want to make sure you understand you don't have to pay for the celluar service if you don't want when you buy an Apple Watch with celluar capability. I owned two stainless Apple Watches and never once activated cellular service which I felt to me was meaningless because I always carry my iPhone with me, even on workouts. Now of course the watch itself bakes the wasted cost of the cellular chip into the price on these higher end watches but i was ok paying for the sapphire and stainless so long as i wasn't paying a monthly fee for service i wouldn't use.

I strongly believe that the redesign is still coming, it was just delayed due to the reported production issues with its radical new design so they decided to backtrack and go with what we saw today instead of skipping over the watch this year.
Seems highly unlikely. I doubt Apple can swap out a design that quickly. For all we know the flat edge design was a prototype that they decided not to go with or maybe they leaked it to embarrass the leakers. To be honest I didn’t think the flat edge design looked that great. I sense some people liked it for no other reason than it was different.

Thanks, somehow I had in the back of my head that 40 was the display size diagonally 🙁 but it makes sense now.
Would be nice to see an overlay old/new

I wish that were true. The different size screen, including how it bends, and the different radius of the case + how the glass integrates into it.... this IS the redesign. this isn't a quick "lets go back to a bubble" after production issues... this IS the redesign. even worse is apple ALWAYS wants a new physical design to last THREE YEARS to recover the costs of R&D on it. i fully expect the Series 7 / 8 / 9 to share this basic design with the only changes being sensors on the back or a brighter screen over time etc. If sales collapse you MIGHT see them move up a redesign by a single year, the Series 9, but thats unlikely.

I think we are stuck with at least 3 more years of this jelly bean shape. It's not that its bad... its just tired.

Price tag for the cellular option is $100, I was not happy about that when I got my S4 and I never activated cellular.
So, yes, it would be nice to get a SS without cellular

Not as a S7…

so we’re looking at a late October early November launch?

Fall ends in early December, so anytime between now and then. I'm sure they will offer it as soon as they can with the holidays coming up but if they were going to take preorders in the next few weeks I think they would have said so. You have to believe preorders are unlikely to be an earlier than a month from now... ie. mid-late October.

this is the picture from this very article on macrumors.com and is the best at showing the difference i could find so far.
I question if you will even notice a difference if you aren't using a photo watchface or one of the few watch faces that fills out the corners.

I really like charging 8 minutes for 8 hours sleep monitoring though. Not sure S6 can do that.

The lack of details today just because it isn’t shopping for a few more weeks is very odd.

Then all of the confirmed rumors from flawless sources about the redesign as false.

Sounds to me like they pulled the plug on the new design at that last minute and that’s the reason for the delay.
