Still rocking my series 2 stainless. It still looks pristine, battery life holds up longer than a day and it does the three primary functions just fine: tells time, tracks fitness and Apple Pay works.
I’m not sure what about this can compel me to upgrade?

I’d keep it then if it still works for what you need it for. Get a series 8 when that comes out next year.

I’ll sell my AW6 and get this. My out-of-pocket expense won’t be more than a couple hundred bucks plus I get to enjoy that larger screen for a full year. This is why it’s nice that Apple products hold on to their value as well as they do. Makes upgrading that much easier.
Agreed. I've already got a co-worker lined up to buy my Series 6. Even though I was a little underwhelmed because of no new redesign, I would still love the larger screen, brighter stand-by mode, and faster charging.

Really there’s no compelling reason to update the watch yearly IMO. I kept my 0 until software updates stopped. I plan to keep my current until the same. Then it feels like an update. Yearly is just incremental usually.

But I’m frugal with all my Apple purchases. Until it significantly changes my use of it I see no reason to upgrade any device.
My wife barely gets a day out her S4, so I’ll get her a new one. Update yearly? Eh, maybe every other year. I’m keeping my S4, but I jusr get a day out of it. I use to get over 2 days out of the battery.

I’ll wait another year. Not sure what I’m expecting but whatever it is wasn’t in this release. To be clear, I have a model 4 and I don’t have battery life problems, I don’t demand that my screen always be on and I stream music from my phone not my watch. I originally bought an Apple Watch because I had sick relatives but my work had a “no texting” policy. I could see a text if something came up and not get into trouble.

I'm surprised by the negativity here. Having an almost all screen face seems awesome. I guess maybe not if you have a series 5 or 6, but coming from a series 3, this seems like a big leap, especially side by side.

Still doubtful I'll get one. As nice as they are, they're too pricey for me to justify, especially when my series three is still going strong after al others years.

Still using mine too and would agree to just keep going with S2 if those are your only use cases and the battery is strong enough.

I'm definitely planning to upgrade this time around though. I can still get a day's charge wearing my S2 overnight with about 1.5-2hrs exercise activity daily so it's still going strong (and cosmetically as new). I'll wake up with about 40% charge left, putting it on the charger for 1-1.5 hours will get it into the 90-99% charge range, and repeat. But it no longer gets the latest OS updates and some of the Apps I use have stopped working on it due to that, so I'm ready to get a newer one.

The only reason I didn't buy an S6 earlier in the year was to wait and see what this update contained in case it was a large generational change. I'd like to know more about the S7 but think I will go for it rather than looking for a deal on an S6. I like what I see. The screen changes are likely to make it ever so slightly more future proof than an S6 even if it is the same processor and I definitely like the idea of the faster charging. Although the "late fall" wait is annoying.

I am happy it's not the boxy design Prosser faked up. Gosh was that ugly. I'm all cool with Apple changing the design but please not to that of a mini mini mini iphone.

They are going for the Porsche 911 thing here - Anyone can now from miles away see it's an Apple Watch. Pretty amazing for such a young product after all.

Not a single living soul can see from a mile away, that you are wearing a Garmin/Samsung/Etc.

Not so much anymore. Many of the Fitbits have the same rounded square look.

But it is a smart strategy with respect to keeping a design around for at least 4-5 years in all their products. It help in brand recognition and maintaining customer loyalty.

Some are upset that there’s not a new design each year like other brands.
The logistics and cost to change is not cheap. For instance, it’s easier to redesign a Pixel phone when you’re selling 7 mil units versus 100 mil iPhone 12’s in 2020.

The side looks cool, I do like how the display extends on the curve of the display.
Still.. not enough for me to update though.

I do like this watch face though.

Why is the Series 3 immortal

By now it’s probably really profitable. It also lets them say “Come check out Apple Watch… it’s starts at $199!” So you check it out and see it next to the other models and suddenly $80 more for an SE isn’t so bad.

I still think $30 off that price would be acceptable. $200 seems too high.

Not much of an upgrade from S5-S6 if you ask me because the screen almost already goes to the end of the glass. But if you are on S3 or lower, it's practically a no brainer at this point.

The only jump off my couch to upgrade from S6 at this point is better battery life, which would open up sleep tracking, but that's about it. There isn't much they can do on the health front with some major changes too.

Notifications! It’s THE killer of all Apple Watch models’ battery life. If you mirror all the iPhones social media app notifications to the Apple Watch, especially if you have 100+ follows whom all got too much time wasted on comments and sharing etc.

Alohabetical order:
FaceTime
Instagram
OnlyFans (all manner of the like; not insinuating your wife is this type of person but generally speaking for anyone
SnapChat
TikTok
WhatsApp

etc there is just too many notifications: likes, shares, comments likes on top of all the comments (his, hers, they, theirs, everybody’s) just sucks up your time focus and battery life.

just mirror what’s critical.
Also turn off always on display - no need when you’re not actually looking at it, and you’ll turn your wrist to view the watch face which turns on the display, rapidly, anyhow.

these two adjustments alone can extend even an S3’s battery life from 8hrs to 32hrs - especially with so much of the first mentioned disabled.

Yeah if i mirrored everything from my iPhone to watch, it'd be dead in half a day likely. Being smart about notifications will completely change things, from a battery life to personal sanity. Like I personally don't need to know what goes on FB while I'm in the water kind of thing.

Apologies for people who won't unsee this: But seeing as 12 is the only number that's right side up, the 6 being the direction it's lying makes the design uneven and could be read as either 6 or 9
