thanks to all who have posted detailed pics. Very tempting. I just don't see myself sleeping with it, as the AW5 seems kind of clunky on my wrist overnight. Hmmmm

there is no doubt that this is a man’s watch

yes they look good on a night out or on a date with a girl

when hanging out with the guys

leisure activities or with out the guys

many mechanical mens watches

this is certainly a man’s watch

Oh no… I hope the women, non-binary, and not-so-manly-men read this review so they know not to buy it!

OK for what it’s worth here is my six hour review :). Size - Yeah it’s bigger than my series 5. And yes I am noticing it’s bigger on my wrist, but that may be just because I’m more conscious of it because it’s new. When it comes right down to it - it is not *that* much of a different feeling on my wrist than my series 5. I am a little nervous about hitting it against walls, door knobs, or something else. But, I usually have that feeling any time I get a new Apple Watch. Remains to be seen if this one is more susceptible to that.. Band - I got the Alpine green loop. I was prepared to be disappointed, but actually I kind of like it. I, like a lot of people wanted the trail loop, but I didn’t want to wait till November. At this point I’ll just keep the Alpine loop. $100 on the trail loop, whenever they are available, isn’t worth it. I’d rather spend that money on the new AirPods Pro. I still love my series 5 Nike band and I’ll probably use that as well.

One issue is getting it hooked up to cellular. Xfinity said I needed to cancel my old watch and I need to wait 24 hours before I add another. Unless I want to be charged for a another watch on my plan. Ok, I don’t know why I need to wait. I have low expectations of Xfinity. I’m sure I’ll have issues when I go to add it.

I’m just going about my life and trying it out. I already cut the grass. I’ll take it on a bike ride tomorrow. I started with the series 0 and I’ve never had two Apple watches at once, but I’m keeping the series 5 to wear every once in a while. Maybe if I want to dress up. It’s not worth much money anyway.

First impressions:
1. The size is fine. I have 160mm wrist which are small and it doesn't look ridiculous like I was worried it would.
2. The weight isn't noticeably different from the 45mm SS series 7 although YMMV.
3. Other bands fit fine and look fine, maybe a hair thin though. Tred it with both sports look and the Hermes single tour band. Both were perfectly doable but I'd still probably stick with ones specifically designed for it (I'm keep the series 7 and alternating between the two based on what I'm doing. ZERO reason the bands should be $50 more from what I can tell.
4. Love the quick switch to night mode as this has real practical value for me at times but others may find the use pretty limited.
5. Battery has dropped 20% in eight hours. More time will be required to see how much longer it lasts.
6. I couldn't tell a huge difference in the speakers but only tried it on a call for about a minute. I'd have to try them side by side to see if I could really hear a difference.
7. I like the way it looks in person but it is definitely a tool watch. If I was only going to pick one, I'd be hard pressed (right now) to say which I would keep.
I suspect one reason these bands are $50 more is that the lugs match the metal of the case (which I personally really appreciate).

The Alpine Band is nowhere near as chunky as it appeared in photos, and it’s really comfortable. I am surprised at how much I like the feeling of the band.

How many slots from the end of the watch does everyone wear their alpine loop?

My wrist is 155mm, size S alpine loop and I’m in slot 7 from the end of the watch.

Just wondering whether I should exchange for a size M loop instead.

I was wondering whether other people are wearing the slots on the inside or the outside. I’m doing the opposite (at the moment), any reason you decided on this standard?

Got the Apple Watch Ultra delivered this morning here in NZ, a day later than I'd hoped, but at least I got it before the long weekend.

It's a big watch, but not unwieldy, at least for me. For reference, I have 180 millimetre / 7-inch wrists. The weight of the Ultra isn't that much more than the stainless steel Series 6 watch it's replacing. It's weighty enough that I know it's there, but it's not exactly heavy. I always felt like the 42/44 millimetre Apple Watches looked kind of small on my wrist, but the Ultra looks just about perfect.

The screen on this thing is outstanding. I think it's brighter in always-on mode than my original Series 0 Apple Watch was when its display was on full brightness.

Green alpine loop that came with the Watch. It's pretty comfortable. The loop itself isn't difficult to get on or off, but the connectors to the Watch itself are a pretty tight fit.

IMG_3693.jpeg

Space Black stainless steel bracelet from Apple. It pairs quite well with the Ultra, though I do still wish the Ultra had come in some variety of black. Much like the alpine loop, the connectors are a tight fit on this one.

IMG_3694.jpeg

Juuk Vitero aluminium band. I really like the way these go together.

IMG_3695.jpeg

Pad & Quill café cuff band. This has always been my favourite band to wear when I'm on my motorcycle, and it looks even better with the Ultra.

I like it a lot. I do wish they had used more of the available screen real estate, but that's for next year.
This. So much of this. If I have one complaint about the watch, it’s that circular faces don’t look as good. Faces like California or Contour look awesome (and I didn’t love those on my S7Ti), but Infograph has too much black space.

Not sure what you mean by inside / outside but the way I’m wearing it is how Apple is showing the watch in promo pics

Think different!

Us real Apple fans break the rules. (kidding, of course, it somehow never occurred to me to look at the photos to see which way people were wearing it)

My wife tried it on and it’s big on her. She’s a small girl though. My previous 44mm Apple Watch was big on her too. She can definitely wear it for working out, but a bit big for everyday wear.
At one point it was fashionable for women to wear extra large watches. To pull this off, the watch had to be obviously super-sized, not just a little bit too big (else it looks like a mistake, not deliberate). Kinda like wearing obviously oversize men's shirts, it can look cool.
So I don't think women (or anyone) should hesitate to wear it because of some convention of what is an appropriate size. Go for it and flaunt it.

Kinda fun reading this thread, even though I just got a Series 8 yesterday (!).
I might just get an Ultra also...

Well maybe not, but it is fun to think about. I can enjoy things vicariously, without actually owning them
The 8 might be the worst yoy update to an Apple product ever. I recommend to my friends and family coming from a 3, 4, or 5 to grab a 7. Much better deal for the same watch (unless you really need the temperature sensor which really isn’t a temperature sensor lol)

I figured…can’t believe I made such a rookie move. Ah well, I am loving the watch. still at 80% battery after 7 hours plus a 25 min workout. Battery life is nearly worth the price of admission.
It literally makes no sense to do this by Apple. Seems like the early days of the Apple Watch. It’s basically a separate package so Apple is going to make you return a perfectly good Ultra because you need a size M instead of a L? Terrible!

You could just return the full package while ordering the size M and pick up at the same time. Just a lot of fluffing around the time wasted.

My alpine loop size S fits perfectly and I can just squeeze my hand and wrist through to put the watch on.
But I’m worried about scratching my laptop when the G hook is at the centre under my wrist.

I just don’t like the excess band looping all the way around my wrist and when I can see the end of the strap on the other side.

Totally agree - Apple should sell the watch and straps separately, or allow exchange of the band while letting you keep the watch.
