I'm willing to bet almost 100% of supply shortage is due to Apple holding back shipments to make it look like they can't keep them in Stock when in actuality they have more than enough supply for the demand

James
Right because Apple doesn't want to sell iPhones. They'd much rather have someone get a Galaxy instead. Do you people realize how ridiculous you sound?

Apple wants to sell as many iPhones as it possibly can. No availability means no sale and possibly means customers will go elsewhere. Not everyone is so tied up in the Apple ecosystem that they can't leave.

I'm willing to be that you will never be able to prove that but that some common sense would tell you they don't even need to hold back shipments to sell out.

Oh this isn't an Apple fan website (anymore), it's infected by trolls.
Hardly. The moderators are good at banning that sort of behavior. I've been on here long enough to see many complaints coming from fellow Apple owners who have spent many thousands of dollars on Apple products. I know they have been Apple fans because they had been talking fondly of the Apple products that made them happy.

My husband has been a high volume business customer for many years with a good business relationship with Apple. There are cracks in that relationship, though. I won't go into that here. That's between him and Apple.

Speaking for myself and my family, we've always been an Apple household since Steve came back to Apple and made it great again. And my husband and I trusted Steve's judgement in entrusting his company to Tim. And for awhile we admired Tim keeping the company steady in the aftermath of Steve's death.

But in the past couple of years or so, some disturbing signs have been accumulating that upper management is just phoning it in, pardon the expression. In some aspects. In others, clearly they are getting some payoff and are quite successful. But regarding products that impact our lives the most...some questionable decisions have been made. They don't seem to be thinking different that much anymore. They are starting to resemble the kinds of big companies Steve criticized.

It is not hating or trolling to comment on that, to question it, even to ridicule it. After all, Phil Schiller does not hesitate to ridicule the customers who take a path different than one he and Apple would like to see us take.

Very strange response in the forums here.

Apple have clearly stated here that the 7 and 7 Plus will sell out, which will understate first weekend sales.

The story is that supplies will be limited, not that demand will be flat!
That's your interpretation of the story, others interpret it differently.

AAPL is down $2.50 this morning - Wall Street / investors are not impressed with what they saw yesterday.
I think it has more to do with the backlash and noise regarding the removal of the headphone jack. In my opinion the new phones are great, although essentially the same design. I think removing the headphone jack isn't that big of an issue to me personally, but it's more that the lightning port is proprietary. If they went with USB C I think the noise would have been less.

LOL, nothing you post is factual, you've been called out on this by other members here as well. Mods should really just delete your comments.

Can you post something that isn't an assumption, opinion or the apologetic stance that defends Apple at any cost?

Yeah, I'm sure the mods will delete my comments because you and someone else disagree with me. Yes, I'm posting facts...perhaps you need to reread? It's crazy that you think this is an apologetic stance or that it defends Apple...

The stock is down because it was downgraded by a sell side analyst this morning. Not like we haven't seen this before or won't see it again. Yawn.

Ha. Nope. It'll sell like hot cakes.
Exactly! And with some of the deals out for the new Iphone, why wouldn't you upgrade?
I can upgrade/trade my iPhone 6 128 to the 256 iPhone 7 for $200, why wouldn't I do that!!
Its free for the 32 gig!

These initial sales will be governed by supply, not demand, and we have decided that it is no longer a representative metric for our investors and customers. Therefore we won’t be releasing a first-weekend number any longer.

It is absolutely a metric of Apple's ability to manufacture goods and deliver them to customers, a number equally crucial to total demand. So now Apple claims carte blanche to withhold figures for anything that is supply constrained. It wasn't enough to completely conceal all Watch sales numbers. They now extend this shame and hubris to their flagship product.

One of the buildings in Cupertino used to have conference rooms named after oxymorons. One of the better ones was "Apple Forecasting" in honor of the company's longstanding tradition of completely botching new product launches. Hopefully Tim isn't bringing that back into style.

Don't want to be posting those ragged 1st weekend numbers and have the market shorting the stock like crazy ... come Monday.

That's your interpretation of the story, others interpret it differently.

Of course they interpret it that way, look at any story on this site and you will have any number of people who are proven wrong on a daily basis showing up to try and prove themselves right...again. Their lack of understanding of how a public company works and their inclination to believe everything a company says is a cover up lead them directly to the same conclusions every single time. It's funny to watch, it's also completely stupid.

99% of the people who use this forum want to see Apple burn. They take every news story or PR statement as negative because they like to bend the facts to fit their narrative.

But how short their memory is. For the last few years, it's very common for Apple to get slammed for their iPhone launch weekend numbers. If the number is really high but iPhones are readily available, people say nobody is interested in them and Apple made too many thinking it was going to be a bigger hit than it really turned out to be. If the number is really low but sold out, people say Apple predicted the phone was going to flop and didn't make enough or that they engineered the sellout to make it look like it was a bigger hit than it really was.

They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they remove the launch numbers from the conversation, then at least that's one more thing I have to hear everyone whine about the following Monday morning every year.
Bang on.

And is very peculiar that people who seem to despise Apple so much sign up and constantly contribute to a forum devoted to the company.

Each year up until now they've been able to produce more and more phones. We already heard rumors that supply will be shorter this year due to reasons outside of their control. So, when they supply less, and 10 million aren't sold because only 8 million were made we will have headlines that say iPhone 7 flops...just like you're trying to say already...
What are you talking about? Supply constraints? We've heard rumors they've cut component orders from multiple suppliers and rumors they were upping their orders after the Samsung debacle. Neither of those rumors are an indication of supply constraints. To be fair, I could have missed the articles about reasons outside of their control. Could you link them?

Can someone direct me to the forum where I can go troll Samsung fans with hundreds of other Apple owners? Why is it that these people have so much time to waste on negativity anyway?

Or could it just be that APPLE fans are not happy with APPLE products. That there may be a sentiment of unhappiness. Possibly...possibly.

The 7 includes some great features. I didn't think they'd be 10 new features, I was expecting 6 at a max.

I'd list everything new but I've done that a lot of times recently for people who *think* it's the same phone.

What did we get with the 6s over the 6?

More RAM. Second-generation Touch ID. New Rose Gold. Improved cameras. WORSE battery.

What have we got with the 7 over the 6s? Quite a lot IMO.

If Apple fans are unhappy then you will find out in 1 month. The correlation here, when preorders haven't started yet, is reaching.

Overnight polling showed little interest in the new iPhone release SO the Apple PR gang hot on the streets flinging the BS - imagine the poor press after low pre-sale numbers. Marketing at it's finest.

Little interest where? The "blogs" and "news" sites discussing how everyone wont want one? It amazes me people still actually expect these kinds of sites to report ANY truth. Truth doesn't get clicks and ad revenue, bad news and gloom and doom will though.

When the numbers are released then everyone can actually make an informed decision, until that time it's nothing but speculation from people who have as much knowledge as your or I; zero.
