Please slow down and think for yourself instead of listening to trolls. They didn't make the phone thinner!!!! They used the space to make the battery larger, add a second speaker, increase the size of the haptic engine and increase its water resistance
It IS thinner than it would have been with all the improvements mentioned AND an included headphone jack.

You can have a headphone jack and improved water resistance.

Ah yes... the new year is rolling around, and with it, my favorite tradition of rumor mill reports of Apple cutting production. Lol! Every year. Without fail.

Actually, the article said "the phones still have sold more sluggishly than expected" and not anything about seasonal slowdowns - big difference (if true).

Nice. More sluggishly than expected sounds like a great way to quantify it.

The only thing apple should do is work on the bezel to screen ratio. Reduce those bezels please.
Take note at Samsung and other OEMs.

Note 7 had a bigger screen yet its smaller overall.

You realize what happened to the Note 7 trying to make it smaller? Boom!

And to others, stop with the headphone jack... the new Galaxy is already said to have removed the headphone jack, but that was just a news article here... on a rumor site that is already saying the iphone will start to reduce production. :)

Just look at the winner for the most device activations for the holiday season? 40+% for Apple versus 20+% for Samsung. Everyone is buying before xmas and production might drop after? Shocking.

Apple will trim production of its iPhone family around 10% on the year in the first quarter of 2017, according to calculations by The Nikkei based on data from suppliers."

This is unadorned ********. The Nikkei may be the King of "fake news".

Multiply December quarter iPhone sales by 3.2 and you'll come within 2% of full year production. That's because Apple produces at a constant rate for a little over 10, using the last two months to change over production to the new model and commence ramp.

Stories of production cutbacks are the epitome of "fake news". It is far to expensive to modify labor and component commitments to do. Besides, unsold inventory becomes next year's second tier (discounted) product and warranty replacement/repair stock, all of which is planned well in advance.

Shame on MacRumors for continuing to repeat this drivel.

If true... but we know everything posted here is true. It is a rumor site, so it must be true.

These negative Apple articles are getting ridiculous. The other day the headline was "
Apple Tops Holiday Sales With 44% of All New Device Activations" and now 3 days later the headline is "
Apple Will Reduce iPhone 7 Production By 10% in Early 2017 Due to 'Sluggish' Sales" of course they would reduce production after the Christmas holidays. That makes perfect sense. Find me a company that doesn't reduce production in the first quarter and I will show you a company that doesn't sell very much.

Yeah, I thought that slogan was really lame, as if the newest phone would not be the greatest one.

I do think it is kinda silly to say but the newest phone isn't always the greatest one, depending on your perspective. When the SE came out it was the newest phone. Most folks probably wouldn't consider it the best iPhone ever. I bought one after the 7 came out. So I personally do consider it the best iPhone ever.

There are other examples besides the note 7 like LG.

If they sold let's say 55 million iPhones last quarter. I would assume they would cut production lol. Plugs them closer to 49 million. Or 5 million more than the quarter before the 7 was released

Well Apple, it may be a good idea to not use the same design for three years in a row.

I don't think it matters. There will be scores of tweens and teens who don't have an iPhone yet. Even some new college students. These people are the ones that use their parents' purchasing power to fuel iPhone MacBook sales. This is because why apple doesn't care about the so called power user. Their target base is people under 24.

Shouldn't have removed the headphone jack. Sure most iPhone owners (like myself) upgraded anyway. But Android people coming to the iPhone were majorly turned off by that decision and I bet it hurt the rate at which people came to the iPhone from Android.

Sadly, Macrumors only care about clicks and has become a feeding ground of whiners who hate Apple and Tim Cook but won't leave this site. Everyone has a right to post drivel. I clicked on a few users to see their history of posts. Some had over 100 posts ripping Tim Cook, Headphone Jack, Macbook Pro sux. I wonder how many times will it take to make people realize they are right? :)

Macrumors has become one of the worst sites to visit daily anymore. There are better sites for news on Apple products that are unbiased (Pro/Con) and more technical information for professionals. This site has become complete drivel and whiners who don't even own Apple Products.

People under 24 and people over 50.

Headphone Jack. We tried to warn everyone that was a bridge too far. But you know.... THINNER !!!!
Do you really believe this is a reason for bad sales?
I think it is the pricing. Many (on-call) employees in Germany on a business plan and smartphone every 2 years have to pay about 200 euro for iPhone 7 or 350 euros for 7 plus without really owning the phone. The free offer (1euro) from Apple is the iPhone SE. 6s is around 100 and the 6 (the one they most likely used the last two years and it is still a very good phone) around 50 euros.
Plus cheaper Android phones in decent quality for people who don't care too much about the advantages of iOS or Android.

You need another cup of coffee to clear the cobwebs. I know how that can be. One more time, contrary to the mindless troll comments, Apple did not make the iPhone 7 thinner. It is the same thickness as its predecessor. By removing the legacy headphone jack, they used the space to give folks a 14% larger battery, a bigger haptic engine, and added a second speaker to give us wonderful stereo sound. It also enabled them to improve the water resistance. (And yes, there are different systems for "waterproofing" phones, but this enabled Apple to use their preferred approach, which may or may not prove to be a superior system to those phones that have legacy jacks. Samsung has had some problems with its phones not holding up to claimed water resistance ratings, perhaps that is why they are rumored to be following Apple's lead in removing the headphone jack from their next flagship phone.)

iPhone 8: OLED is nice but I think the average consumer won't notice or care. This needs to be the year of true wireless charging. I've read rumors that Apple is working on a tech that would allow you to charge your phone from up to 15 ft, no charging pad. That would be a big step in the right direction.
