How about everyone on the IUP (including me) just not being allowed to order or get a phone? I can't wait to read that story...but Apple will never admit that they knew they had no stock for us, or that it was on purpose. Seriously though, on their own upgrade program it seems like most of us were unable to order. That is really, really pathetic. It is one thing to see shipping times slip, it's another thing entirely to NOT LET US ORDER while we watch times slip...
Seriously. For iup they should have had an option to ship to store at least-- since you have to hand over your old device first. Relying on in-store inventory made it impossible for me. Now I get to play the game of checking inventory every day after launch.

*Hopefully* it won't be too hard to reserve one in the days following launch. Though Jet Black will probably be the hardest to snag.

I'm on T-Mobile and in-store reservation wasn't even an option for the 7+ at any of 3 local stores. Such a joke. (and the 256gb 7+, which I plan on getting, ran out pretty quickly on the remaining carriers at all stores with the exception of rose gold.)
I think I'm just going to stick with the matte black, since I have a reservation for 9/16. At least it's just a color. I was going to switch things up and get the 7+, but I just used a coworker's 6s+ and it is definitely too big for my small hands. So probably better I got "stuck" with the 7.

What a joke. I could get a Jet black up until the morning if I started a new upgrade program, but having an upgrade program where I need to go back into store, all jet blacks were sold out by 12:06. That's so stupid.

Yeah-- I thought both blacks would be popular, but the Jet Black definitely seems to be the more coveted model. I prefer the matte black as well, fortunately. Lucky you were able to reserve one!

Freaken forgot about it last night. Still have to the in store pick for the upgrade program. So I'll try again next Saturday. For some reason I'm not that Hyped about this year so a delay doesn't seem to bother me that much. I ordered the Apple Watch this morning for the 30th Delivery. Will try on next Friday for in store pickup but if that fails, I'll wait. If it works, I'll cancel the one on order.

My favorite part was the email I got from Apple a half hour after preorders started telling me I was eligible for an upgrade. Even if I was a Verizon customer that would have been too late to get the model I wanted on launch day. Might as well have waited to send that email until the 17.

EXACTLY! Apple isn't dicking around and playing games. Do people really think Apple is going to intentionally limit supply to create some false scarcity so they can....what? Have to avoid posting sales figures for the launch because they will be lower than usual? Possibly drive customers to a competitor or at the very least piss them off and leave them with a sour taste? No... with almost anything -- especially mass-produced, high-volume stuff like the iPhone, it does NOT benefit the company to sell less units at any time, for any reason.
I would add that with uncertain demand, launches like these allow them to gauge how fast to ramp up production. They do this every year which is why in most cases, they end up shipping ahead of the posted delivery time. It's just business.

Stayed up until 2am CDT, just to find that the 7+ was unavailable in just minutes at my local store. Should have a waiting list system for those in the upgrade program. Not looking forward to the hassle of trying to get one reserved. I doubt there is any credit for having to pay an extra month while we wait for inventory to be available.

Went in at 12:05 with the intent to upgrade from the Apple Upgrade Program and all 7+ 128 GB Matte Blacks were unavailable in all 7 stores I checked around Los Angeles for reservations. By 12:10, people were still ordering there's to have it shipped! So much for this:

I got cold feet on the wrong color 7+256G (Silver) after I got my email confirmation from Apple with my time slot for pickup on the 9/16. I clicked cancel in the email and now the Reservation no longer shows up in my Apple Account. Is the Reservation really gone now or are they going to be holding the device for me that day?

Oh no I wasn't. All black models were gone by 12:07. I looked through every store. Never was able to secure one. Stuck with Rose Gold.

You need to wake up and preorder just like all the rest of us suckers

Yeah, I did wake up at 15 before 2 am CDT. Kept refreshing at 2:01. Got my 7+ 256 all set up on the upgrade program that I got in on last year with the 6+. I selected one of the only remaining stores in the Dallas area for 10:30 pickup. I was then asked to enter my Apple ID and password for verification. After doing so, I got kicked back to select a store with a message saying due to high demand, no more appointments available and to check back on Sept 17th at 8:00 am. Kind of pisses me off. Thanks Apple for making me wake up in the middle of the night for nothing. And the salt in the wound is the iPhone 7 emails I got this morning from Apple wanting me to pre order.

If they could they would, you really think apple likes not selling phones.

Of course they would.
But you could just as well say, do you really think Apple likes to have excess inventory lying around?

There's so much that goes into logistics that's beyond my pay grade. Apparently, Cook is a master at this.
That said, I'm guessing there's a bit of marketing spin throw in there too, to fuel a frenzy.

I created a thread about this to share our grief and get an idea of how many people new to the program were able to order right away vs those of us trying to upgrade. I was upgrading and my girlfriend was signing up and she got hers 45 minutes after launch and I had no avaibility 1 minute after launch.....very telling
Seems like the initial launch available was pretty much luck of the draw, unless you are insinuating that they wrote software that discriminates for and against certain types of consumers, which would be both illogical and illegal. Let's be clear that you are not paying a premium that compels Apple to guarantee you initial launch priority by being a member of this program. The benefit of the program is guaranteed resale (you essentially sell your phone back to apple at 50% depreciation). Program or not the cost of the phone is the same. So why do you feel like you deserve better treatment?

Yeah, it was mighty frustrating to see that I could buy a 128 GB Black Plus direct online and have it here on 9/16, then check and find that not a single store in my state had it, or the jet black either, for the iPhone Upgrade Plan Reservation.

It looks like upgrade customers were limited to first day stock at whatever store they could get to, and even right when the store opened, they didn't have the model I wanted in any color. And there was no other option to reserve a place in line -- shipping times were slipping and we were left at the back of the line with no way to order a phone. The claim that we could upgrade every year seems to have been a pretty hollow one. Apple should have prioritized these customers but instead they seem to have forgotten about them. If Apple doesn't come up with a fix and apology really soon, I doubt many of us will be signing up for Apple's upgrade program again -- this is the first time (since they started online ordering) that I've wanted to get the new phone on the first day and haven't been able to.

Same. I would have appreciated at least being put on a waiting list at the store to be notified when stock is available. Those who ordered outright weren't told to wait until Sept. 17 like us, they were given a future date. Another poor experience for those needing to visit the store.

Glad it wasn't just me that got hosed. Wife and I both went to the upgrade program last year but didn't think we'd get sent to the back of the line due to no remaining appointments that vaporized as I was entering my apple id and password. Yes, my scheduled appointment vaporized as I was entering my Apple id.

Apparently my text never made it into the original post. I collected these quotes to show that several of us on iPhone Upgrade got hosed. We get to try again on September 17th at 8am. My 10:30 Dallas NorthPark store appointment confirmation for my matte black, 7+, 256 vaporized as I was typing in my Apple ID and password. I got kicked back to Select a Store as the one I selected said no more appointments available. After that, my only choices in Texas were Austin and San Antonio. That just chaps my ass.

But we're not selling back at 50% depreciation because we weren't able to order a phone which is now backordered until November. This is more like a 'first to join, last to upgrade' program. We're paying a 1-2 month 'tax' in addition to a hard credit pull each time. I'm likely not doing this again.

I see a lot of people on Twitter who are part of the iPhone Upgrade Program that weren't able to reserve a phone, at least not the black models. One, Schiller should have said on stage that the black models would be in limited quantities at launch and two, people who are part of the iPhone Upgrade Program should get first dibs on stock.

Not sure about giving them first dibs but at least an equal shot. I saw people mentioning that it never was available to the Upgrade Program people, not even at the moment it launched.

I am part of the upgrade program and I reserved 2 128GB matte black iPhone 7. They are both available to pickup next Friday. And I did this about 2 hours ago.
[doublepost=1473440797][/doublepost]Not sure what this article is talking about. I just checked Apple.com and all matte black iPhone 7s models are available for in store pickup this Friday at the Memphis, Tn store.

This strikes me as blatant false advertising. People with the IUP weren't given any preferential treatment like this seems to imply.

Yeah, the black didn't go too fast in the 7. Jet black was never an option in either model. Guess my store was a lucky store? Lol. Hope you get one soon.

Interesting. I know people were definitely at least having issues with the Jet Black but glad to hear you were able to get what you wanted.

Thanks this is a good list! What makes me most angry is I have a friend who ordered his iPhone via AT&T upgrade program at 7:00 AM this morning and got a nice sweet matt black one coming to him a week after the release date. Me on the other hand, I have a color I was limited to since all other colors were gone at 12:06 AM.

I thought nobody would buy it with the headphone jack missing. What does Apple need to do to make people not want it so that I can have it on launch day?

I'm pretty sure this is just a supply side problem. All rumors and readings seem to point towards the actual numbers being much lower than 6 and 6S launches. That's part of the reason why they're not releasing numbers this weekend: on top of it already being skewed towards supply shortage/limitations, the numbers were already expected to be much lower.

Did you read the terms of the agreement. My guess is that everyone here having problems haven't actually made their 12th payment yet. It's not backordered. You just haven't fulfilled your end of the agreement.
