In fact, Apple entered the MP3 market when it was fairly well established (Rio and Creative NOMAD were popular brands).

And by "fairly well established" of course you mean "almost no one actually owned these things."

And so the weak arguments continue that Apple is successful not by designing great products but by running great ads.

There must be some logical explanation for the success of Apple.

Funny, Microsoft's endeavors to model (chase) their success with The Zune, PlaysForSure, The MarketPlac:, and more recently, The Microsoft Store, do not seem to have reaped similar benefits.

Who needs integrated solutions and well designed products? "Not us, baby, because it's all about "ADVERTISERS, ADVERTISERS, ADVERTISERS, ADVERTISERS!"

Product of the Century!

The product of the decade wasn't Vista????

But it took a decade to build!!!!!!!

But how can Vista win Product of the Century is it doesn't win product of the year? But then we here are talking of advertising, not numbers sold or unsatisfied customers because so many were sold.

I have never heard of a company where people are obsessed with almost every product they make. go apple!:) I have had 7 or 8 macs and have loved every one

Wait, there are computers other than Apples out there?

Apparently Windows 7 can now find wifi easy, took them long enough.

The "next decade" happens to be referring to the decade succeeding the one just cited, (the subject of this thread) yet, why would you have deduced such a contextual reference?

I was simply riffing off of Rocketman's responses, and you chime in with your clueless comments.

Accusing others of being obtuse?

Yep - priceless.

Why not just add him to your Ignore List? He continues to troll around here because people keep feeding his compulsion. Just ignore him and he'll find something else to focus on.

im not surprising about that all these years apple done it well theyre made a performance that no one can be against it everywhere in the world everybody want something that apple sales/create theyre brilliant in all ways & we know that ! go on steve ;)

That was indeed a beautiful piece of computer. I only owned one for a week before I realized I didn't really need a laptop at that time, but what a week it was. ;)

A curvy beauty that all these years later still looks better than 99% of PC laptops you see on store shelves today.

I still can't forget the Apple IIGS...what a beautifully designed piece of kit with awesome sound and graphics capabilities, as well as total Apple II compatibility.

:D

It's even more ironic, when one of the most notorious Apple Hater/Microsoft Lovers writes: Microsoft's Negative Brand Image Gets Worse in PC magazine, within the same year.

"Sucks less" is indeed considered high praise, in this context.

Well, this is normal given the circumstances...

As a good student I never got an expensive gift when passing my grades...but when my cousin (used to failing every year) passed his, there would a shiny new toy waiting for him in his bedroom...MS is just like that: the moronic student that does something right once in his life and gets a lot of praise for the "recovery"; while Apple's aces every year are regarded as "normal"...

Oooh, this ought to throw the haters into a lather. I can't wait to hear their gnashing of teeth, right here on MacRumors.

*pops some popcorn*

*also pops some popcorn*

as the FanBoys splatter the thread with DNA using a lather! LMAO

But seriously, all but one of the awards are clearly well deserved accolades for Apple.

Steve Jobs should also win TIME's Person of the Year award, but I have a feeling due to media political correctness and partisan politics, Steve Job's representative in Congress, Nancy Pelosi will win instead.

well done apple!

they deserve it

The Apple iPod is truly the product of the 2000's because it literally changed the entire process of how we bought and listened to music. So instead of having to buy physical discs, we now have players that could play for many hours on end of music and spoken word programs downloaded from the Internet (it also created the new industry of podcasting for spoken word programs).

I have never heard of a company where people are obsessed with almost every product they make.

Indeed. Other companies should take note.

Hehe, well put. This is exactly what's going on.

Not at all. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to predict the "next decade" if all she does is recite the published roadmaps for the next two years.

I think the original question was asking for some "different thinking" - what could happen in ten years that's beyond simple augmentation of 2009 technology into 2011? The "Next Decade" is 2020, not 2011.

Hey, I resemble that remark! I want to be stupid too, please?

In 10 years we will have reverted all the way back to client-server, will have projected displays, ON OUR EYEBALLS that give the sensation of a wall sized display or a heads-up display. Bone phone speakers, and generally a computing experience that is externally invisible but experiencially emersive.

There. I made a prediction.

Now let's wish for incremental CPU, memory and OS upgrades to the existing hardware and form factors.

Rocketman

Even easier is predicting Microsoft's roadmap for the coming decade:

Microsoft in 2010: whatever Apple succeeded at in 2008
Microsoft in 2011: whatever Apple succeeded at in 2009
Microsoft in 2012: whatever Apple succeeded at in 2010
Etc.

Me, I can't wait to see the ZunePhone! (Remarkably similar to the iPhone, but, you know, replacing the "i" with "Zune.") Available at your local Microsoft Store in late 2010 (presented with free accompanying Electric Slide by friendly (if embarrassed) staff).

Go Steve!

Now give me a mac with performance that doesn't cost over $2000!

It's those prices that give them the cash on hand to innovate and purchase tech they need without worry. Gives them the edge to take risks, and get rewarded for those risks.

The Mac ads are pure FUD and I think it actually antagonizes people who know about computers. Gives me the image of a door to door salesman taking advantage of old people.

How ironic.

The otherday I was saying, when they were talking about the 27 recall oerhaps, that a customer survey or award story comes out. Too funny. And you have to wonder what the pro users would be saying with rumors of certain software being dropped. The other thing I'd. You ever notices if there is a rumor about something before the holidays, Phil comes right out and says that's it for the year? Yeah. The use rumors all the time for free advertising. Intrsting.
