Apple is a for profit company.

If you're a ****ing idiot and bend your phone by sitting on it or forcefully bending it, then you deserve to lose the $800 you paid for it.

This is like forcefully scratching a gold ring or a gold watch and then asking the company to reimburse you for your lack of cerebral cortex.

This ^

Not sure why people have this inclination that Apple is supposed to protect their product even though it's not in Apples possession anymore

If you don't want your **** damaged, well then you just need to take better care of it. Don't like having to actually look out for a $650+ electronic? Go buy another phone then that you don't have to worry about.

OP just go into the store and complain that your device goes searching for signal randomly and you already replaced the SIM.

1. They can't verify that.
2. They will always fall back to the limited warranty even if the device is damaged.

Frankly, I side with Apple on this. There's no way it just got "casually" bent in her purse. Something happened that either the OP or his wife isn't telling us/Apple.

My advice? Take it to the Apple Store and get it exchanged.

The minute he logged on and used the meid of that phone to state the problem, he was flagged.

There is no flagging in the system (trust me).

Apple ALWAYS defaults to limited warranties.

Example: Your bluetooth isn't working but your device has a cracked display. Accidental damage but completely independent of the issue at hand (bluetooth). The device will be covered and replaced under limited warranty.

If ANY genius tries to argue with you on this please tell them to login to GSX and search 'mixed warranty status.'

Great idea. I'm sure that will trick them.

Okay, you spent 2k on both phones. You or your wife damaged it. Pay the damn $79 and move on with life.

Stop taking advantage of the situation. This bending issue has gotten out of control. We have idiots going into store and bending display models. We have people that are buffoons who sit on their $600+ phones (I never sat down with my iPhone in my back pocket since the the 3GS). Common sense people.

Then we have a guy telling the OP to lie about another issue to get a replacement because Apple can't verify it.

We have some shady people around here.

Why not just replace everything for free?

Water damage could be caused by humidity in theory... Cracked glass by a flaw in the glass (they actually ARE good about replacing that...) and dents could happen from day to day use too, not necessarily negligence.

All I'm saying is, Apple drew a line in the sand. The line they draw is better than 99.99% of companies out there, and HTC (who did worse on the bend tests...) isn't rushing out to replace M8's for the idiots that sat on their phones, nor do they even OFFER HTC care+ (or whatever)

Don't like it? But something else next time. Kick and scream all you want now, but Apple owes you nothing because YOU damaged YOUR phone, especially sight unseen.

Pay the $79 and sell the new one if you hate that stance so much.

Apple owes you nothing, and I applaud the online genius for not sugar coating your mistake.

Speaking as someone who WORKED for Apple I am completely appalled that devices like these would bend so easily.

I had people day in and day out yelling at my face because their battery was bad (it wasn't), their device freezes, they have any issue and they are out of warranty and how dare apple not follow through on their products. And then I have people like the members of this forum complaining about yellow screens, dead pixels, minor scuffing when in reality these issues are all within tolerance of Apple quality control. So yes, I hate to tell you, but yellow screens are considered normal and every genius who has swapped out a yellow device was doing you a favor. The same goes for Macs.

Some people scream at the bar.

If screaming customers can get their way (and they ALWAYS do if they are loud enough) am I going to deny a genuine mistake due to a possible manufacturing flaw? NO. Especially if someone is nice and sincere about it.

If I can make multiple exceptions to *******s all the time I will make exceptions to those who I feel truly deserve it.

That's the beauty of the Genius Bar.

So yes. I will tell the original poster to lie. Because I sincerely believe Apple should cover this device under warranty especially given how new the device is and as long as there are no signs of apparent physical damage.

Believe me, I know the kinds of people that come into Apple and demand refunds or exchanges. My brother was a store manager and got sick of the constant yelling in his face for the dumbest reasons.

If lying to get a replacement is someone's prerogative - then so be it.. Karma is a bitch. OP states the phone was in a purse able to move freely and yet it's bent? Was it not noticed right out of the box? It doesn't add up.

Out of the box and bent? Hell yes, Apple should replace it. But if someone is trying to pull a fast one I hope Apple sends them packing.

Face to face is always better. All-text conversations allow someone (the OP in this case) to hide behind their computer and get an attitude. (Hey, that's exactly what I'm doing in this post now!)

Anyway, I read the whole thing and feel it was a waste of time. But my favorite line was "I will not pay one red cent."

I LOL'd.

They are probably not doing it because people will try to bend the phone themselves if they dinged it and have it replaced via chat thus they want a visual inspection to see if the replacement is really needed . It's not personal it's just business. Blame the media for hype by this so much that people were bound to take unnecessary advantage of this

When I contacted Apple asking if bending would be covered under warranty, they said yes. If mine does get bent, I can take it to an Apple store and if they see the bend, they will give me a new one. But its nearly impossible to get a consistent answer from Apple chat support.

Apple wants to make sure you didn't bend it yourself vs bending through natural causes . That is why an in store inspection is probably needed

I really don't think we're getting the full stories here i mean I remember when the iPhone 5 came out there were heaps of reports on that bending in peoples pockets same with the 5s. go on search iPhone 5 bending up and theres a lot of articles about it.

its already been proven the phone doesnt magically bend, and it passed all tests in lab as well. so I think apples just placing under "user inflicted damage"

I wish you luck if you go into the apple store, but I dont really believe the whole bending in pockets theory - my 6+ hasnt

Consumer Reports reviews is as good and accurate as home depot appliance reviews.

Who would've imagine that using some sophisticated bending machine to bend phones when some random guy on the internet can bend it with their hands easily without the use of these expensive testing machines.

It won't matter anyway, Bendgate, antennaGate, we all remember these issues but the sheep still line up anyway.

Look at the new iPhone 6's - same 1GB ram and people will still buy. 4.7" screen with a little more than 720p screen resolution. iPhone 6+ that has 5.5" but bigger than other phones that are 5.7" while being smaller than the iPhone 6+

It doesn't matter, apple sheep will still line up no matter how terrible the product is.

I would have just returned for a refund and not mentioned the bend at all. You can still do that at a retail store probably if you're within your period.

Just go and return it I don't think anyone will notice the bend.

Then get a different phone. If apple is handling this as poorly for you as it seems don't give them your money again.
