Isn't this what almost killed Apple in the 90s?

If you think choice "almost killed Apple in the '90s" I suggest you to revisit some history of tech.

The Mac lineup was indeed a mess, but what almost killed Apple was developers and customers flocking to Windows.

Steve Jobs famously streamlined the lineup reducing it to a mere 4 models, but the main reason was that Apple could not afford the cost of keeping goods in stock, as the money in the bank was quickly draining. So cutting that cost and moving to a just in time model on a very streamlined lineup was not only a good move consumer-wise, but also the only possible move.

edit: and modern Apple frequently tidies up lineups, see the recent iPad cleanup. Expect something similar on the iPhone as soon as OLED displays availability will become plentiful.

Hi Macrumors, it wold be nice if you update your website to include filters for your home page: for example I really not interested in seeing the next year rumors of what may or not may have the iPhone when this years's model is not event launched, or not interest on what Kuo says or not interested in every beta release, or a drone flying over a building. People may want it, other people don't want to know, other people just don't care.

I understand that your are about rumors, but would be nice to turn off certain types of rumors that some people may think are just repetitive, or not related to the content they would want from the site. hmm based on the content of the site my only "rumors" would be about Samsung and Microsoft because I would remove "Kuo", "Beta Releases", "Dismantling devices", "Apple Watch", "Drone", "Stocks" (there used to be an app for that right?), "Who is selling more computers", "Leaked camera parts", "Apple Ads".... Never mind, I would end up with an empty page

I ordered an iPhone 8 Plus last night, I just don’t know if I can handle the smaller physical size of the iPhone X. I’ve got pretty big hands, and fat thumbs, so having a device that’s a “good size” with large keys on the keyboard is important to me.

If they came out with a “Plus” sized model of the iPhone X that was similar to the 8 Plus in dimensions, I’d love to have it.

Every time I use my mother’s iPhone, which is the smaller size, I can’t type on it without looking like a drunk. I can absolutely fly on the Plus model keyboard, with relatively few errors.

I really wanted to do iPhone X, but ignoring the hype train and thinking like an adult made me realize that buying the first gen of ANY Apple product is typically ill-advised IMO because the second version is miles better. Touch ID was good on the 5s, but Touch ID 2 was miles better. I’m sure Face ID will improve next year. I also just kinda can’t get over the notch and am hoping that is gone next year...

I too have large hands and love the iPhone Plus sizing, but i hate the wasted space of the bezels. Is the iphone x a lot narrower than the Plus, it seems just shorter length wise?

I know 6" sounds huge... but the phone could be the same physical size as the Plus phones that are currently selling.

They'd just make the screen go where the empty chin/forehead bezels are now.

I just measured my iPhone 6S Plus... they could definitely fit a 6" screen in the current body.

Just remember that it will need the taller aspect ratio.

The larger screen market is something Apple hasn’t fully tapped into yet. Couple that with maintaining some sort of LCD line with the OLED phone production issues... smart moves by Apple.

Paying $999/$1129 in 6 months for a phone that would normally be in mass production now will make a lot of people question their purchase even more than they are questioning it now.

2018 iPhone will be like this for sure:

- iPhone (5.8")
- iPhone Plus (6.5")

They will drop naming schema and use OLED for both. Also the next years iPhone will have a much smaller notch.

My predictions.
This. And just two colours.

Let's keep it simple.

How about OLED in a smaller form-factor? (looks at SE)

I think that both makes the most sense (is what the X should have been) and would be very popular, even at a high price. We've devolved from ever smaller phones in the early 2000's to ever larger phablets ever since. Companies only put the best tech in the largest models and then say they're more popular - of course, people don't want to buy the crap version.

The 5.8” will drop next year to 899$ and the 6.5” plus will take the 999$

Doubtful but I could see them making it 128GB for the base model.

128 GB 999.
256 GB 1149

128 GB Plus 1249
256 GB Plus 1399

Would be my guess. Maybe add 512 GB Plus model at 1599 to squeeze some more money out of people.

"Citing local parts makers, the report said Apple had originally given panel orders to Samsung Display, its sole OLED supplier, under a plan to launch three OLED iPhones next year -- 5.28-, 5.85-, and 6.46-inch models. But the report said the development work for the 5.28-inch model has recently been suspended possibly due to the low marketability of the smaller version."

I can't believe this was ever close to true. What would be the point of it. Maybe 1 cheaper LCD model at that size.
